Round-the-Orme walking race 1968

My twin brother and I were in the Army Cadets, in 1968 we took part in a round the Orme walking race. Some local people are mentioned in this newspaper cutting

Just spotted this thread. Sounds like a good idea to me, anyone remember the rules and regs I.e. traffic, which way round. Seeing as no organisation has taken it up, there must be snags. Mike

Shouldn't be too difficult to arrange.  Council Amenities Department are keen to promote such things and closing the Orme for an event like this has happened a few times recently - running, cycling and last weekend's Cambrian Rally.  Yes, there are things that have to be done - authorisation, pre-event notice, publicity, PR work, signage, marshalling but not insurmountable although there is a cost involved.

Before my operation, I regularly walked around the Great Orme.

From the toll house on the West Shore to the toll house on the North Shore, I could never do better than 1 hour and 15 minutes.

I often used to wonder if anyone has managed to do it in less than an hour?

The main snag would be checking that the walker didn't break into a trot on the downhill sections to break the record Mike
