A former private school boarding house has gone back on the market. Rhyl based ProCare Wales bought the property known as Hathaway on Pwllychrochan Avenue, Colwyn Bay from Rydal Penrhos.

The area is the most prestigious in Colwyn Bay with house prices fetching close to ?1 million. Pro-care secured planning from Conwy County Council in 2021 to convert the building into 12 self-contained flats with 24-hour integral care facilities for supported living.

The site has now been put back up for sale with estate agent Elwy via online auction. Images show significant work is still required inside the property. Bids will start at ?735,000.

Hugo, don't know if you ever go to Llanrwst and want to park.  There's quite a large car park off Station Road behind Glasdir and what used to be the relatively new Police Station.  That car park is free yet is apparently CCBC's.  I have often wondered why this one is free when they are so keen on charging elsewhere in Borough.  Maybe the current crop of Cabinet Members are blissfully unaware of this anomaly.

That's a handy tip Cambrian, thanks very much for that.     There's another car park over the bridge but you have to pay for that so your tip is good and only a short distance away

A vandalised council bookstore at Colwyn Bay Library which is "posing a risk to staff and the public" will be safely demolished. Conwy County Council applied to its own planning department, seeking permission to demolish the building at the back of the public library on Woodland Road West amid concerns over asbestos.

Whilst Colwyn Bay Library opened as the Coronation Free Library in 1905, a council report indicates the bookstore may date back to 1933. At a planning committee meeting at Bodlondeb, councillors were informed the bookstore has suffered from vandalism in recent years.

THE BOOTS store in Colwyn Bay will close later this week, as part of 300 Boots store closures across the UK.

The high street chain announced the closure of its Station Road site in December, with the store set to close on April 6.

This follows the closure of its Rhos-on-Sea pharmacy last month, and is a further blow to the town.

In recent years, Colwyn Bay has seen New Look, Peacocks, WH Smith, Poundland, Subway and Costcutter shut.

THE Eurovision Song Contest is coming to Colwyn Bay next month - on the big screen!

The big entertainment event of the year will be relayed live from Malmo, Sweden, on a giant screen on the town?s new pier.

There will be a chance to dance the night away to the sounds of a DJ who performed at the Eurovision village in Liverpool last year.

D J Kels will be keeping the energy high throughout the evening spinning plenty of vintage and recent Eurovision songs.

Amy Dyke of the Colwyn Bay Pier Trust said: "Everybody loves the Eurovision contest and its special social atmosphere, so we thought local people would relish the chance to see it larger than life with other local fans.

"The atmosphere will be fantastic and we hope people will embrace the Eurovision Fanzone by dressing up, bring their friends and family with them and really make a night of it.?

The event is brought to fans jointly by ?Together for Colwyn Bay? and ?The Colwyn Bay Pier Trust?.

THE REDEVELOPMENT of the Imperial Hotel building in Colwyn Bay has suffered a setback, after the proposal failed to meet planning requirements.

The site was snapped up by London-based property developers Imperial Developers Ltd last summer, having laid empty since 2010.

Planning permission for the Grade II listed building to be converted into 21 flats and four ?quirky? retail units was granted back in 2016.

With the renovation of the site underway, the project has now suffered a setback after certain conditions related to site drawings were not met.

The drawings are related to the location of certain elements of the building, with the council saying the current plans would have a ?significant detrimental impact? on the site.

Residents have slammed plans for 23 affordable apartments to replace a Colwyn Bay nursing home. Wales and West Housing Association has applied to Conwy County Council?s planning department, seeking permission to demolish the former Guy?s Cliff Nursing Home on Conway Road and replace the building with apartments.

The plans were submitted in January, but the housing association has resubmitted the plans, providing further information around parking ad revising the height of the building, which has been reduced. But dozens of residents have written to the council in opposition to the three-storey development, citing insufficient parking, overdevelopment, and anti-social behaviour as reasons they oppose the apartments.
