Post by: DaveR on September 16, 2011, 01:31:02 pm
This section of the Forum is intended to give smaller local businesses the chance to promote themselves free of charge to our 6,500+ visitors every month.

Any business wishing to participate must be based in the Three Towns area (Llandudno, Colwyn Bay, Conwy & outskirts). All business categories (e.g. shops/pubs/cafes/bulders/home based businesses etc) are allowed. They should register on the Forum as a member and then post a new topic in this section with a suitable title, e.g. 'John Smith - Wine Merchants, Conwy'. They can add in to their post details of their business, post photos, add a website/Facebook link etc. They can also make follow up posts to their own topic on a regular or irregular basis, with details of news/special offers etc.

You can see an example of a business listing here:
http://threetownsforum.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,936.0.html (http://threetownsforum.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,936.0.html)

All discussion regarding this section should take place in this topic, we would ask that members do not post in the businesses' individual topics.

Please note that all entries in this section will appear at the sole discretion of the Forum owners and will be removed if unsuitable. The Forum Owners' decision is final in this matter.

I'm going to take the plunge and be the first to post in this thread. Ive read the introduction.

What I am going to say, I didnt know where to put it. I thought maybe in the cafe chat thread.

However. I am absolutely fed up with the high winds that have gone on for week after week all Aug Sept (and maybe July).  But ---- NOW THEY HAVE GONE.   But, so have all my potential customers.

They have all gone home to Stoke etc

So, the weather forecast is great for this coming weekend.  I am fed up of being by myself. So, I would like to invite everyone who reads this forum, and all their friends, to come up to the Great Orme Family Golf and play away absolutely free of an charge in any shape or form.

Just say "I read this on the three towns forum" and off you go.

I might as well be up here, have a nice crowd of people enjoying themselves and have an empty till. Rather than being up here by myself and having an empty till.

Hoping to see a few of you.    Mike

If you take all the Forum members away for free golf, who will keep me from being lonely on the pier all day?
After all, I don't see anybody else apart from Forum members and the odd sea gull!

Don't forget that any local business can advertise their shop/service completely free of charge in this section - just follow the instructions in the first post of this thread. Over 6,000 people a month look at the Forum, so it's well worth doing!

I have just developed a Facebook group called "Jobs offered in Llandudno, LLandudno Junction, Conwy and Colwyn Bay", and now have almost 200 members. It is a site to spread the word about any job vacancies of whatever type in the area, as people find it very hard to find work at present - so many jobs are gone before they see them, yet are still advertised. It would appear that the obvious ones are those that people spot in shop/office windows, and are then spread by word of mouth. That's where I thought that members of this forum and my members could gain a mutual benefit. Some businesses have problems getting staff, and particularly with the tourist season approaching, there are people on my site desperately looking for work. You would be very welcome to join the group - alternatively please post any vacancies on here and I will copy them across for members to contact you in whichever manner you feel appropriate. This will not cost you anything of course, and you will have access to a good selection of potential staff.

North Wales recruiters started the year on a high with new partnerships and expansion plans.

The team at Colwyn Bay and Bangor-based Supertemps have been inundated with clients seeking employees in multiple industries over the winter months.

Managing Director Sarah Ellwood says demand is increasing for staff in sectors including IT, hospitality, retail, and manufacturing, but warned bosses to move fast for fear of losing out on their ideal applicant.

“The market has been candidate-driven for quite some time but since the onset of the pandemic it has reached new levels,” said Sarah.

Llinos Gutierrez-Jones, Head of Human Resources for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We have a number of support staff vacancies being advertised currently, and Supertemps are playing a key role in helping us recruit the right people for these rewarding roles.”

LAST week, the digital marketing company Yell Business published a report that revealed Llandudno is the start-up capital of the United Kingdom.

During 2021, more businesses formed in the town per capita than anywhere else throughout the UK.

Highlighting the report during a debate in Parliament on Tuesday (February 22), Aberconwy MP Robin Millar said:

“Last September, Llandudno in Aberconwy was identified as having the fastest economic recovery in the UK and, last week, an analysis of Companies House filings identified it as the start-up capital of the UK.

“I pay tribute to the entrepreneurs and businesses for making that happen.

“Will my honourable friend the minister join me in Llandudno with some of those entrepreneurs to see how we can nurture those green shoots, secure the growth and turn Llandudno into a growth and enterprise hub for North Wales?”

George Freeman MP, the UK Government minister for science, research and innovation, responded by saying: “With pleasure.

A firm has funding to offer free trucker training worth thousands of pounds to people in North Wales in a bid to help relieve the shortage in the sector.
The lack of qualified HGV and LGV drivers in the UK was highlighted before Christmas with deliveries of fuel and food hit.

This is now out of the headlines but the Road Haulage Association (RHA) has warned of a shortage of around 100,000 drivers and said the issue has not improved.

It comes as more drivers leave the industry due to retirement and other factors than are joining as well as European drivers leaving the UK after Brexit.

But training is expensive with people having to fork out thousands of pounds to get qualified.
Now Gatewen Training Services, based in Llay near Wrexham, is offering to train people up for free after getting funding from Welsh Government aimed at tackling the crisis. The training would usually cost up to £3,700.

Candidates must live in Wales, and;
Be earning less than £29,500 per annum
The funding is available to prepare either new drivers for the Cat C (Rigid Vehicle) test or experienced drivers for the Cat C+E (Articulated Vehicle) test.

There is no lower or upper age limit but people need to sign up required by the end of March, although training can be after that date.
A spokesman said: "The UK’s lorry driver shortage that received a lot of publicity prior to Christmas has not visibly got any better.

"The average age of a driver in the UK is 55 with less than 1% being under the age of 25.

"Approximately 2,000 drivers are leaving the industry every week, often due to retirement, with only 1,000 new recruits joining over the same period.

Gatewen have recently been awarded the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award and also in a drive to offer mental health help and support to local men, they have set up and sponsor a men’s mental health charity https://www.pwrpas.com/. (https://www.pwrpas.com/.)

It operates as a hub with its primary aims being to raise awareness of the mental health challenges faced by men, engage with men and encourage conversation, and to signpost men to appropriate support.       ref DP

Update on above....

Phone 'ringing off the wall' at trucker training firm offering free HGV driver courses to people in Wales
Gatewen Training Services, based in Llay near Wrexham, has been astonished at the huge interest in the training

Since then they have had more than 150 calls from people in Wales interested in taking up the offer and they are now trying to process these enquiries.

A spokesman for Gatewen said “The response has been way above expectations and as a result we will not be able to process any further enquiries until further notice.

A new recruitment drive is set to be launched later this month to sign up full-time firefighters in North Wales.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service has announced registration for online applications will open at noon on Friday, April 22 and close at midday on Tuesday, April 26.

The region's fire service originally intended to appoint people to the roles in September last year.

However, the plans were placed on hold, which the area's chief fire officer blamed on having "limited resources to recruit and train firefighters".

Ahead of the latest recruitment window, the service's head of operations Anthony Jones said it was looking to attract applicants from a variety of backgrounds.

He said: “Right now, we’re preparing to launch a new recruitment drive for full-time firefighters - and this recruitment window will be open for online registrations over a period of five days.

“We’re looking for people to join our team. We believe there is no such thing as a typical firefighter and applications from all backgrounds are encouraged.

Anyone who requires additional information is advised to visit the service's social media pages or its website.

BUSINESSES, educators and training organisations can sign up to a free exhibition at one of the country’s premier event venues.

Eirias Events Centre in Colwyn Bay will host the inaugural Conwy Job Expo on Thursday May 12 from 2pm-7pm.

Organised by Conwy Employment Hub – which oversees Communities for Work, PaCE and Communities for Work Plus – in partnership with Working Wales, which is delivered by Careers Wales, the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) and Conwy Business Support team, the Expo aims to bring multiple sectors under one roof to promote recruitment opportunities across the region.

Prospective job candidates, learners and apprentices will have the opportunity to meet with dozens of employers from a wide range of industries and take the next step towards their future careers.

Libby Duo, Strategic Manager for Conwy Employment Service, said they have already received a positive response and hope to see a great turnout on the day.

“This is a chance to shine a light on the many jobs which are currently being advertised in Conwy and the surrounding area,” she added.

“Recruitment is a major issue nationwide – particularly in hospitality, tourism, and IT – so we want employers to use this event to showcase their offering and find candidates who can help them build back from the pandemic.

“For those wanting to explore a new direction or professional and personal development there will be colleges, business support teams and training providers on-site to discuss your options, share information and provide guidance.

“If you are looking for a job, recruiting to your organisation or welcoming prospective learners for the next academic year, this is going to be a crucial event, a one-stop shop for employability and education – we hope to see you there.”

The Eirias facility will be divided into sections for exhibitors, education and training, demonstrations, and workshops, covering themes from interview techniques to CV writing.

Cera Conwy, Colwyn Bay
28 Wynnstay Road,
 Colwyn Bay01492 463043

Cera, the digital-first healthcare-at-home provider and one of Europe’s fastest-growing companies, is recruiting 50 care assistant positions in Colwyn Bay.

As part of the recruitment drive, the company is holding a recruitment event on April 28th from 10am-2pm for anyone considering applying for a role to drop in to chat to the team.

Cera is a technology-enabled home care provider, with a team of thousands of carers and nurses delivering more than 40,000 in-person visits to patients homes every day on behalf of over 100 Local Authorities and NHS CCGs. The company’s pioneering technology removes the burden of manual pen and paper processes by implementing innovative technology and machine learning capabilities, in turn giving carers more time to do what they do best; care.

If you are a student about to graduate, an experienced worker considering a career change or employed worker looking to supplement your current income, Cera’s technology can recruit, train, certify and deploy new professional carers in a matter of days.

Felix Wetzel, Director of Carer Acquisition at Cera, commented: “Over the past two years, the majority of us have experienced what it’s like to care for people outside of our families – from staying at home to protect the most vulnerable to checking in on an elderly neighbour or dropping off food for a friend in isolation. The feeling of caring and making a difference to the lives of others is incomparable. It doesn’t matter what stage of your career you’re at, if you’re reliable, empathetic and friendly, it’s time to consider joining the caring profession.”

CASH investment is up for grabs via an enterprise hub offering free business development sessions to ambitious start-ups and entrepreneurs.

Experts from across the world of business are joining forces with Hwb Menter/Enterprise Hub @M-SParc to share their knowledge, advice and experience with participants from across Conwy county.

The Miwtini  programme https://businesswales.gov.wales/news-and-blogs/news/miwtini-programme-creative-and-digital-businesseswill (https://businesswales.gov.wales/news-and-blogs/news/miwtini-programme-creative-and-digital-businesseswill) be held in Colwyn Bay over two weeks from Monday June 13, featuring workshops on a range of topics including web design, PR, marketing, and customer service.

Those taking part will then be able to pitch their business ideas for investment – £3,000 for the winner and £2,000 for a runner up via the UK Community Renewal Fund.

This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund and takes place over six in-person sessions at the M-SParc #OnTour satellite hub on Abergele Road, Colwyn Bay.

2021 saw a 14% rise in the number of start-up businesses launched in the UK, with many people deciding to pursue a new career or launch a venture due to the pandemic.

Enterprise Hub Manager Sara Roberts said they want to help people begin their journey to commercial success.

“Miwtini is all about opportunities, providing entrepreneurs and anyone with the spark of an idea the platform to bring it to reality,” she added.

A NORTH Wales community interest group is helping people of all ages in part-time and temporary work progress their careers through free one-to-one career coaching.

RCS, which provides wellbeing support for individuals and businesses across North and West Wales, launched its tailored service to help broaden job opportunities for individuals looking to move to full-time or permanent positions.

The programme can be accessed as part of RCS? In Work Support Service which operates across Denbighshire, Conwy, Gwynedd, Anglesey, Carmarthenshire, and Ceredigion.

The scheme, which consists of four one-to-one professional coaching sessions, uses an evidence-based appreciative approach, meaning participants can map out their goals based on success and opportunities rather than focusing on negatives.

Initially launched as a pilot project, the 12-week programme has now been ramped up to include an online hub of resources to support learning outside of the monthly meet ups.

Participants are guided by Marian Rosefield, who has more than two decades of experience in professional coaching, with sessions tailored to best suit individual learning styles and help better understand career aspirations.

A JOBS and training programme will hold a series of events to support people back into work and education post-pandemic.

Conwy Employment Hub is focused on helping to meet demand in multiple industries for new staff as the UK recruitment crisis deepens.

Weekly drop-in sessions and job clubs are to take place in Llandudno, Kinmel Bay, Colwyn Bay, Penmaenmawr, Llanfairfechan, Conwy, Pensarn, Llanddulas, Abergele and Llanrwst over the coming months.

Conwy?s Employability Practitioner Manager Trish Ellison said: ?Across the region and beyond there are many sectors looking to recruit staff in a variety of different roles.

?These free sessions are an opportunity for people to sharpen their CVs and interview techniques, for our team of experts to offer support and advice, and to remove barriers to employment and highlight opportunities in a range of sectors.

Colwyn Bay Library will host one of the employment events.

?There is help available, whatever your age or circumstance, whether you?re struggling with poor health, childcare costs, transport, or there are other factors preventing you from accessing work ? we are here to provide solutions.?

Libby Duo, Strategic Manager for Conwy Employment Service, echoed those words and added: ?We have held events for employers this year including the successful job expo in Colwyn Bay during the Spring.

?We?re excited to be back out in the heart of our communities, supporting people to find or progress at work. Everyone is concerned about the cost of living increases and we are here to help bridge the gap to a new start, new career or training.

?We hope people will take advantage of these free sessions and get in touch ? we are here for you at what is a very challenging time for so many families and industries. We are also planning to provide support for people worried about their finances over the coming months.?

Title: Re: Jobs NHS recruitment Open Day
Post by: SteveH on October 29, 2022, 10:43:31 am
NURSES at Glan Clwyd Hospital have reacted to staff shortages by arranging their own recruitment day.

The nursing professionals are busy finalising plans for the open day on Saturday, November 12, which begins at 10am and finishes at 3pm.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) currently has a staffing problem; the health board has been too reliant on locum and agency staff, in common with most health boards in Wales, because of staff vacancies.

It is hoped the day will attract those interested in applying for qualified nursing roles as well as the Apprenctice Healthcare Assistant programme.

The scheme lasts for two years and apprenctices gain NVQ qualifications plus, hopefully, a full-time job on completion.

Jane Woollard, Glan Clwyd Hospital?s director of nursing, said: ?We want people aged between 18 and 25, who have an interest in healthcare, to come along and see what a rewarding career this can be.

?Nursing is a tough job, though really rewarding, and the support given by our healthcare assistants is vital. We need more and we can offer on the job training and career advancement to those who want to make it their vocation.

?We?ve seen healthcare support workers make that transition into Band 5 nursing and it fills us with pride to see their progression.

?We also want to see registered nurses on our open day. It doesn?t matter whether you are newly qualified or experienced ? it?s about compassionate care for the people of North Wales.

?We need you to work either in our acute sites or out in the community and our links with colleges and universities afford plenty of opportunity for development ? even up to PhD level if that is your aim.?

For more information about the opportunities on offer email Rhian Jones, lead recruitment nurse for Glan Clwyd Hospital, at Rhian.Jones9@wales.nhs.uk or Jane Woollard, IHC associate director of nursing, at Jane.Woollard@wales.nhs.uk

The government is considering plans to coax retired middle-aged workers back into jobs to boost the economy.

Older people who have given up work could be offered what is being dubbed a "midlife MoT" to entice them back into employment, the Times reports.

The paper says the MoT would assess finances and opportunities for work.

It follows a recent House of Lords committee finding that a wave of early retirement following the pandemic has caused a huge labour shortage.

The report by the influential economic affairs committee examined the jump in economic inactivity - the number of people not in work or looking for work - and rising vacancies since 2020.

Economic inactivity has increased by 565,000 people since the start of the pandemic, according to the analysis.

The report highlighted retirement, increased sickness, changes to migration and the UK's aging population all contributed to the current tightness in the labour market.

The Conwy Careers Fair will be held at Eirias Events Centre in Colwyn Bay on Thursday, 23 March from 11am to 4pm.

Conwy Employment Hub has already signed-up leading names from across the region and is calling on more to help ease the nationwide recruitment crisis in multiple sectors.

The Hub - which oversees Communities for Work Plus ? organised the event in partnership with Working Wales, which is delivered by Careers Wales, the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions), Creating Enterprise and Conwy Business Support team, having secured funding from the Welsh Government?s Young Person?s Guarantee.

A new Young People?s Hub has also been launched as stakeholders sharpen their focus on uniting industry to provide more opportunities and help support 16 to 24 year olds into employment and/or training to develop lifelong skills.

Libby Duo, strategic manager for Conwy Employment Service, said: ?Following the success of last year?s Expo we are delighted to be able to bring businesses, educators, and organisations from a wide variety of arenas together to showcase their organisations and discuss future careers and apprenticeships with young people in the area.

?We will have a mixture of stands, interactive displays and activities designed to bring young people and employers under one roof, so they can engage and move forward together.

?This is a free event so it?s also a cost-effective platform for recruitment, while demonstrating how the private and public sector in North Wales are working in tandem to help fill the many job roles that are out there.?

The Barn at Eirias Events Centre will be divided into sections for exhibitors, talks and workshops, and this year will include an inflatable assault course and iBox games bus.

Among those to have already registered are Grwp Llandrillo Menai, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and North Wales Training.

Sioned Williams, community and social impact manager at Creating Enterprise, said this is a golden opportunity that employers, schools, colleges and universities should capitalise on.

?We are really excited to be a part of the planning team and are focused on promoting the day to as many young people in our communities as possible, as well as the opportunities we have at Creating Enterprise and Cartrefi Conwy,? she said.

?We are so lucky to live in an area where so many employers are supportive of our projects and initiatives ? it?s amazing to be able to pair the young people and opportunities.?

Peter Cadmore, a stakeholder engagement manager at Careers Wales, added: ?We?re thrilled to be attending the Conwy Careers Fair again this year.

?Events such as these are a fantastic way of engaging with young people on different careers and local opportunities.

?We will be there to talk to young people about their options and provide guidance on potential next steps.?

Employment body to host first conference in Wales

The IEP (Institute of Employability Professionals) is to host a regional networking event at Venue Cymru in Llandudno on Wednesday May 3.

Sponsored by PeoplePlus and supported by Conwy Employment Hub, the focus is on meeting recruitment demands in multiple industries and uniting the public and private sectors to share best practice and work closer together in the future.

Libby Duo FIEP, Strategic Manager for Conwy Employment Service ? which delivers the Welsh Government?s Communities for Work Plus programme in the county ? is a Fellow of the IEP and said it is pivotal the employability and skills sector ?are on the same page? post-pandemic.

She added: ?The current skills and employment system consists of national, regional, and local employment and skills related schemes managed by different organisations and agencies, and this provision expanded rapidly during the pandemic.

?Significant and different labour market and skills challenges and opportunities now exist at both a national and local level and the impact of Covid-19 has created new challenges, exacerbating previous ones we were already facing.

?This is the IEP?s first networking event in Wales, so we are pleased it is being held in this region where so much good work has taken place to develop skills and help people into jobs and education.

Title: Re: Jobs in the Three Towns area......Being made redundant
Post by: SteveH on November 15, 2023, 10:19:26 am
A MAN from Colwyn Bay who found his dream job after being made redundant is encouraging others to take advantage of the free career coaching and financial support for training available to people in Wales.

David Burnell, 63, is now working in a new role for a luxury golf travel company after being made redundant earlier this year.

He credits his success to the ReAct+ programme, which provided him with free careers advice and a ?1,500 grant to go on a training course to expand his skillset.

The ReAct+ programme, which is funded by Welsh Government, provides people who have been made redundant or are at risk of redundancy with a personalised package of support to meet their individual needs.

David SAID: ?I?ve always loved working on websites, and I?d built up my skills since the early ?90s, but up to now I?ve had a sense of ?imposter syndrome? and sometimes doubted my own skills.

?I was feeling worried about the prospect of having to find a new job given my age and whether younger candidates might have an edge on the latest technology and qualifications.

Title: Re: Jobs in the Three Towns area.........Colwyn Bay-based jobs expo
Post by: SteveH on January 16, 2024, 09:50:02 am
THE leading employment and training event in North Wales is back and bigger than ever before.

Businesses, skills organisations, educators, charities, and individuals wanting to exhibit at this year?s Conwy Job Expo are urged to do so fast.

The free exhibition will again be held at Eirias Events Centre in Colwyn Bay and following the success of last spring ? when up to 500 school and college students were in attendance ? it has been opened-up to people of all ages.

In partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and supported by Creating Enterprise, Conwy Business Support, and Working Wales, which is delivered by Careers Wales, the Expo will be held on Thursday, February 22 from 1pm to 5pm.

Libby Duo, strategic manager for Conwy Employment Hub, hopes to see even more organisations at the venue than in 2023, when more than 80 signed up.

?We have had a very positive response so far and spaces are filling fast,? she said.

?As well as pupils from schools across the region ? many of whom are still undecided on their future career ? this will be an opportunity for people in jobs who are looking for a new direction, or anyone seeking employment, to explore what opportunities are out there in multiple industries.?

The Barn, at Eirias Events Centre, will be divided into sections for exhibitors, education and training and demonstrations.

Jane Cook, the DWP?s employer and partnership manager for Conwy, added: ?The expo is aimed at anyone wanting a fresh start, or looking to take the next step in their education or working life.

?This event will bring some of the region?s top organisations and businesses under one roof ? as well as representatives from the public sector ? and provide them with a platform to attract their employees of the future.

?It?s also a chance for networking, to conduct initial interviews, and to demonstrate what apprenticeships, work placement and voluntary roles are out there on the market.?

Among the employers taking space at the last exhibition in 2023 were Adra, Conwy Mind, Zip World, North Wales Police, and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.

More than 80 per cent of those surveyed lauded the programme of activities and organisation on the day, describing it as ?one of the best career events we have attended in a long while?.

Aldi recently announced new rates of pay for all store and warehouse colleagues, with pay for some apprenticeship roles rising by up to 37 per cent.

Lisa Murphy, Training and Development Director at Aldi UK, said: ?We?re on the lookout for hardworking and driven individuals to bolster our Aldi team.

Successful applicants will have the chance to achieve industry-recognised qualifications while they earn and will also be eligible for a number of additional benefits, including a range of shopping discounts, a bike to work scheme and a new mortgage advice option where colleagues can seek free mortgage advice and access mortgage education.

MORE than 70 organisations from across Wales and the North West will join forces to showcase employment opportunities at a returning careers event.
In partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and supported by Creating Enterprise, Conwy Business Support, and Working Wales, which is delivered by Careers Wales, the popular Conwy Job Expo will be held on Thursday, February 22, from 1pm to 5pm, at The Barn, Eirias Events Centre, Colwyn Bay.

update on above............

MORE than 1,000 people flocked to one of the biggest employment exhibitions North Wales has seen.

The third annual Conwy Job Expo brought together in excess of 1,110 attendees with up to 90 leading organisations at The Barn, Eirias Events Centre, Colwyn Bay.

It exceeded all expectations, shining a light on career opportunities and securing permanent and temporary positions for many candidates.

Among those in attendance were Abergele?s Manorafon Farm Park, North Wales Police, Llandudno Pier, British Army Careers Centre, and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.

?The feedback we?ve had has been positive, particularly as a lot of the companies had vacancies and were able to pre-interview candidates, which was great from both sides.

?The workshops we held at Jobcentre Plus in advance of the expo helped job seekers prepare for this important event with top tips on how to stand out to exhibitors and increase their chances of success in finding their dream job.

?This proved invaluable, with many also taking up the follow up one-to-one support with CV and job applications, so that?s something we will look to do again in the future.

?Thanks so much to everyone who came along on the day, notably the exhibitors who showcased the amazing careers available right on our doorstep.?

Jane Cook, the DWP's employer and partnership manager for Conwy, added: ?What makes Conwy Job Expo so special is the very real opportunities that are out there, and the platform prospective candidates had to discover so many different sectors, and discuss with top employers whether it?s a career for them.

?The results spoke for themselves, both in the number of people who attended, and the successful links built between recruiters, educators, and private and public sector organisations.

?Once again, thanks so much to everyone who came along to this year?s event, it was a fantastic day.?
