Hi
Does anyone remember the Alice in Wonderland models in Happy Valley back in the 1960's at all?
If so, has anyone got any memories of them and also any photo's?
I recall it was a small cost to go into the section with these models and I insisted (as a child) that we went every year when we visited to see if anything had changed. I recall Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum who were illuminated and the working model of the mad hatters tea party.
I have gone through all photos I had of that era and sadly nothing turned up.
Thanks in advance for any help.

There's also a couple in the forum's photo gallery. Just click on photo gallery underneath the Three Towns Forum page header. You can do a search for any photo's you're interested in.
I typed in 'Alice' and these two came up:

Thanks Trojan - bought back instant happy memories of my childhood. {}{}

No photos... but I have a copy of the souvenir booklet, which I have unearthed from a box at home.
Would you like the inside pages scanned and posted here too?
-
It would be great to see the booklet. :)

Ok - here are the pages of the booklet.

fabulous, must have been a lovely sight all lit up at night
-
My word, even more memories flooding back and although mine are faded it reminds me as I remember it so perhaps I am not as ancient as some may think!!!
It was a great sight in the day and even better at night - all lit up and the characters seemed massive to me as a kid. It was one of those must do things on the annual holiday in the 60's although I don't know when it closed and was taken away - I am thinking very late 60's or early 70's. It was a sad day when it went though but suppose they call it "progress".
The booklet makes good reading and thanks suepp for taking the time to dig it out and post it on this forum - one which has oodles of info on and I have not even scratched the surface yet. I think I am going to enjoy reading through some of the topics on here and see what I am able to remember.

it was thanks to jemima who posted it not me!

Yes, thanks Jemima. I see the booklet was published by Llandudno UDC! :)
We were just saying on another thread at what a good job they used to do.
-
Thanks to Jemima then Suepp!! ;)

I think it was eventually removed after suffering storm damage.

I've got a copy of the brochure, but slightly revised - the illuminated gardens stay open until 11.30pm in mine!

And I found the attached in a box at home - apologies for quality, scanned copy of a 45year old negative!

I remember this well from my childhood in the 1950's. I always loved the cheshire cat which grinned down from a tree, and the house where Alice grew big and sprouted out of the chimney! I read a few years ago in the Weekly news that some of the characters were still in storage, and at the time there was talk of reviving the display, but children were not so sophisticated in the 1950's, and I'm not sure whether it would work now. It would probably be full of biddies reliving their childhood while the young chldren wait outside playing on their Nintendos and the older ones try to work out how many stones they would have to throw to explode the cat!

Weren't the figures brought down into the town during the winter months and set on roundabouts at the major intersections? O r is my memory playing tricks... ???
-
I doubt it because most of them were mega heavy. If you dont believe me, the table that they all sat around for the tea party---that is still in its original position in the happy valley. Just imagine how many would be vandals that have had a go at that, and all been beaten' There are one or two other bits and bobs, I think the teapot is still around

Hi Chris, Yes this is definitely so - I remember them well. They formed part of the Christmas illuminations for a few years and I remember them on the roundabout at the top of Mostyn Street the year Magical Mystery Tour by the Beatles was released and the film was on the telly at Christmas - 1967 I think....
Magical days indeed!

I found these this week whilst looking for something else. Not sure if they are in Happy Valley or elsewhere , date? probably late 50s. Anyone any clues?

A new Alice feature has appeared in Happy Valley, a Reading Chair and some Toadstool seats:

The Alice bandstand appeared today. It seems a little small and not in proportion?
