Title: When I'm a Celebrity was held at Gwrych Castle.
Post by: Helig on August 10, 2020, 03:18:45 pm
The morning television programmes stated that the new I'm a Celebrity will take place at Gwrych Castle. This has been confirmed here:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-53719969 (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-53719969)

I think it is to be held in November 2020. This should make North Wales a great visitor attraction and bring in business.

I wonder if there will be bush-tucker trials if they cannot pronounce the name of the venue correctly ... I did hear someone on BBC call it Gwitch (to rhyme with witch) Castle.

I am sure that the owners of the venue will be well paid for the filming to take place there, money that will be useful for the continued restoration.

Personally I will not be watching, to me it's a load of rubbish ... and I also wonder how much of the local wildlife's food (insects and suchlike) they will destroy for "entertainment".  If I want to watch people eating unpalatable items I can go to the local MacDonald's (other such establishments are available)!

I had wondered where the crew and people involved in the production were staying. They would need to be local to Gwrych Castle. There isn't much near to Abergele, does anyone know where they have been accommodated?

I think they have done a good job of work with the castle itself. I hope it draws the public to visit it afterwards.

It is reported that ITV paid £300,000 to use the site for the series.

It will be good to see the castle up and running again. I remember it in the 1960s when visitors flocked to it when they had all sorts of entertainments there. I hope this is the catalyst for a regeneration of Gwrych Castle.

GWRYCH castle has not only released their full vision for its designed landscape project but details of its latest competition.

The Abergele castle, which hosted I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! last year

The Designed Landscape Project 2018-2043 that has been unveiled to the public involves a 25 years plan to consolidate and repair buildings and structures, revive the ideas of the picturesque movement and create educational, training and employment opportunities.

A spokesperson from the castle said: “In June 2018, Gwrych Castle was purchased by the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust for the benefit of the nation.

"A 10 year programme of works which will see the castle and outbuildings conserved and restored is underway. It will deliver a wealth of educational and training benefits in partnership with local and national organisations.
"The restoration of the castle is the core of our work.

In brief, some of the aims in the 2018 to 2043 project include:

Recreating the formal gardens and to rebuild the conservatory: The garden was destroyed in 1971/2 when a jousting tilt yard was formed in the space. Since 2014, the trust has recreated
To restore nine miles of historic pathways, staircases and viewing platforms and to reintroduce Lloyd’s planting scheme.
To restoring the historic bridge to form part of the visitor’s experience.
Rebuild Lloyd’s cottage orné: Lloyd preserved the cottage as part of his landscaping of the hillside. He enhanced the already picturesque cottage with a thatched roof and installed the gamekeeper who would show visitors around the parkland above the castle.
To return visitors to a unique picturesque experience: Restoring access to the caves via Lloyd’s network of paths will enable visitors to walk in the footsteps of Lloyd Hesketh Bamford-Heskeths and his contemporaries, ascending along the paths and staircases into the darkness of the caves through to
There has been rumours that Gwrych Castle is to purchase woodlands off the Rhyd y Foel road.

I'm A Celebrity shop opens in Welsh town centre as Gwrych Castle prepares to host another series
As Ant and Dec move in, Gwrych Castle has opened a new shop in Abergele

A shop selling I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! merchandise has opened in a Welsh town centre ahead of the latest series being filmed at Gwrych Castle.

The castle is currently closed until spring 2022 as Ant and Dec and the crew move in to start prepping and then filming the latest series of the reality show - the second time it has relocated from Australia to Wales due to Covid restrictions.

And with the castle closed to the public, Gwrych Castle has opened a shop in Abergele town centre, taking it back to its grassroots and selling all things I'm A Celebrity...

Mark Baker, founder, and chairman of the Gwrych Castle Trust, said: "It brought us to the heart of the community, we are very much a grassroots charity which started out in the town 25 years ago and it is nice to be able to come back and have some direct engagement with people."

In the town that is gripped by I'm A Celebrity fever, the public reception to opening the shop has been strong.

Not that much of an idiot DVT, he's getting £200,000 for less than 4 days  &shake& I just wish the ambulances came as quickly for us mere mortals & I bet he didn't have to queue up in the ambulance outside either. My husband was in one for 4 hours waiting & only saw a triage nurse & another 2 hours before he was seen by a doctor inside.

He must have had a serious problem to be seen so quickly      &shake&    but he was well enough to enjoy a bacn butty in the Hospital canteen not long afterwards

Sorry to hear about your ordeal Meleri and hope that the waiting time didn't have any adverse effect on your hubby.     It's just typical of the situation nowadays.
My walking buddy Tellytubby has had problems with the system too.     We had a walk together on Saturday but on Sunday he felt unwell and waited until Monday to phone his GP's surgery.  When he eventually got through he was told that it was too late for a triage phone call so to phone back on Tuesday.    He did that and they later phoned back and when he told them of his symptoms they said phone 999 and ask for the ambulance.    To cut a long story short he went into A & E and is still there but that 24 hour delay he had could have had serious consequences.

With TV you don't know what to believe    One minute Richard Madeley was in hospital, probably by passing the triage obstacles that we all face and then he is out of the show because he has broken the " Covid bubble" in the castle
Fast forward a few hours later and he is back in the castle being interviewed by Ant & Dec and saying that he enjoyed a bacon butty in the hospital's canteen
Poor Richard, out of the show but probably won't have to refund part of that fee he agreed.       Now that everyone has had to evacuate the castle will they all have to do the same or will the show go on?

GWRYCH Castle will reopen in April for the first time since hosting I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! for the second consecutive year.

The castle was built between 1812 and 1822 by Lloyd Hesketh Bamford-Hesketh as a memorial to his mother’s ancestors, the Lloyds of Gwrych.

Since the Coronavirus pandemic, the castle has played host to the most recent editions of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, the ITV reality show that pits celebrities against each other to compete in tasks outside their comfort zone.

The Castle has also been modified and improved, with a new visitor route starting by going through the restored formal gardens, up to the outdoor theatre, and on to the coach house courtyard where the celebrity campmates spent a lot of time doing chores _in the area also containing the famous phone box and the privy.

Jill Adamson and her partner Nick Clitheroe tied the knot at the I?m A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! castle near Abergele, on Friday, May 19. The couple, who live in Rhyl, are both 60.

This was the first civil ceremony at the castle since the restoration first began.

PS
I'm A Celeb: Gwrych Castle wedding venue bid complaints
The north Wales castle which hosted I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! has applied to become a wedding venue, sparking noise and safety objections.

The 19th century Gwrych Castle staged the ITV show in 2020 and 2021 because lockdown restrictions prevented the programme from travelling to Australia.

Castle bosses said since the show it has become "incredibly popular" among visitors to Abergele, Conwy county.

But some locals say its trust should not hold a licence.
It wants to sell alcohol from 10am to 1am seven days a week as well as host live music.

It is good to see the castle being put to some use after all the years of it falling into decay. This has to be the way to get it back to a decent standard and open to the public for a variety of purposes. I remember when it was an entertainment venue in the 1960s and had all manner of attractions there. The public flocked to see the castle, the grounds and other entertainments. It used to be packed out in the summer months. It needs to be open and in use, not let to rot as it was for so many years. The locals should be more reasonable.

Plans to restore roof at I'm a Celeb castle near Abergele

The restoration of a now famous Abergele castle has moved forward, following a planning application being submitted to Conwy.

Dr Mark Baker, of the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust, has submitted two separate planning applications to renovate the 19th-century gothic ruin on Llanddulas Road.

Having recently been granted permission to hold weddings ceremonies and events at the castle, the charity is now hoping to replace several of the buildings? temporary roofs.

The application includes plans for a new slated roof to replace a temporary roof over the blacksmith?s building, which is also known as the coach house.

I'm a Celebrity castle to be 'saved from collapse' with ?2.2m cash injection
Funding has been awarded by the National Heritage Memorial Fund to protect Gwrych Castle

Gwrych Castle has been given a ?2.2m lifeline by the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) as part of their Covid-19 Response Fund. The impressive Grade I listed building is one of Britain?s most important castellated mansions and has been identified by Cadw as an irreplaceable cultural asset.

In more recent years, the castle gained new public attention after becoming the UK base of ITV?s I?m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. The castle was used during the 2020 and 2021 series when pandemic travel restrictions prevented stars from jetting off to the usual Australian set.

That money should go a long way to preserving the building which is a prominent feature in Abergele.    Many years ago they had medieval  themed evenings in the castle and I remember going to some of them.     The one thing I can clearly remember about the inside of the place was the very impressive staircase

AN ARCHITECTURAL practice specialising in conservation have been appointed to take on the next stage of works at Gwrych Castle.

Chambers Conservation were appointed after the I'm A Celeb castle secured a huge ?2.2million from the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) as part of their Covid-19 Response Fund.

The money will save the ruin from "imminent collapse" and enable the Gwrych Preservation Trust to reinstate the roof on the main building; the castle has been a "roofless ruin" for 30 years.

A spokesperson for Gwrych Castle told the Journal and Pioneer:  ?We are pleased to announce that Chambers Conservation have been appointed as the architects for the next phase of works for the rescue of Gwrych Castle. These initial designs explore the historic roof structure but will need reviewing to ensure that they are fit for purpose for the effects of climate change and allow accessibility for maintenance.

Update on above...

First look at I'm a Celeb castle's 'dream makeover' as global hunt launched for looted treasures
If things go to plan, restoration work on Gwrych Castle should start next summer

Guardians of Gwrych Castle aim to start replacing its roof next year and they hope its interior will be restored by 2026. But for the property to be familiar to the family that once owned it, lost and stolen treasures must be recovered and a global search has been launched to find them.

At the same time, the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust has begun assembling artworks that may eventually form a National Portrait Gallery for Wales. As well as paying homage to Gwrych?s long-dispersed collection, which stretched back to the early medieval period, the gallery would aim to tell the story of North Wales notables and the great houses they built.
