My OH will need to be forcibly removed from the area !!!!
-
Are either of you competing?
-
Not me, it costs a fortune to enter, 2 or 3 thousand Pounds! :o worth seeing on the prom though!
-
Will pop along this afternoon to take a look.
-
Not counting the entry cost you need to have a very high class of car for this event-- Blower Bentleys for example not counting the Bugatti and the Astons. I see there is a Hillman Imp, so we could possibly be OK with the Morris .But it is nice to look and the owners are always happy to discuss things with you. Hope you enjoy it Dave and ME. Do check what time the cars are actually there though, as they set off during the day.

I was Chief Marshal on the event (my third year in that role, but eleventh year with the event) and it is a big favourite of mine (I've also been involved with the Cambrian Rally for over 40 years!!!) - superb cars, wonderful characters and we managed to get the weather right again after last year's four days of heavy rain!!! For me it's a way to get very involved without the expense of entering!!!
The entry fee is, as said, getting on for £3000 but for that you get your hotels and meals all included with the top hotels being used for the event (as I'm local I go home each evening!) so in real terms it is not an expensive event, especially when compared to some other similar ones!
You don't need an expensive car (although there were many) as proved by the Hillman Imp, so I suspect some of you have something suitable for next year!
During the last three days I have covered nearly 600 miles checking that all my marshals were at the correct location - they all were, smiling and friendly. The event comprises regularity sections on public roads (low average speeds, maximum 30 depending on the type of road) along with 15 special tests including the four that were on the Orme - my team were on the Orme all Friday night setting up and ensuring the venue would be clear.
The route took in a lot of north Wales and gave the competitors some wonderful scenery as the mountains were very clear. Certain venues gave the opportunity for views not normally seen (such as looking down on Llanberis from above the power station). Certainly a good advert for north Wales and what it has to offer.
In total there were over 200 marshals on the event and I gave out no less than 350 bottles of water, packets of crisps and a well-known chocolate bar when doing my rounds!!!
The full results can be found on the event website www.three-castles.co.uk (http://www.three-castles.co.uk) and there will be loads of photos added soon.
The event has booked the same week in 2014 and 2015, so book the dates in your diary now - it would be nice to have a few local entries !!!

I have a suitable car, 67 Spitfire, but £3,000 is a heck of a lot of money for 3 days! Out of interest, is there a reduced entry fee for those who are local? I wouldn't want to pay to stay 5 mins from home! Then of course there is the problem of having a navigator who can follow the book, I had a look at one the other day, seems like you need a degree in maths to work that lot out! I noticed that fewer cars seemed to have entered this year, perhaps the recession has bitten! I'm very happy just to turn up and take pictures myself, looking forward to next year! ^*^0 ^*^0 ^*^0

Too true, Merddin! Three grand is a huge amount of money. But then again, I’m not saying that this is too much for what the ‘three castles’ offers. It’s just above my financial limit for a weekend jolly. I have a ‘classic’ car, or what the present Miss Rover regards as “road legal scrap”, and I would love to enjoy it more than just for the few Sunday drives during the summer.
So…
Why not start a ‘three towns’ classic car event next year? I’m sure we could find at least a hand full of pre 80’s car owners (nothing against 80’s cars) to take part in the fun.
We can have tongue in cheek awards for humorous reasons, and take it as a bit of fun as we follow either the ‘three castles’ run, or just tour the loveliness of our three towns. And, as you are going home each night, it costs nothing but the price of a couple of plastic trophies and our fuel. Plus the cost of a few stops for coffee, shandys or picnics along the way.
I’d be happy to organise it, and I offer official photography duties to someone who clearly has photographic skills on this site. ;)
Kindly let me know your feelings towards a " 2014 three towns rally", or any ideas regarding it, and I will draft up some proposals.

We loved the Imp, it brought back lovely memories of an old neighbour from the early eighties.
Her husband hand sprayed the old Imp for her.
One day she drove the six miles home from work with the hand brake on and complained that it was sluggish and overheating, what a wonderful lady who is unfortunately no longer with us.
Thanks for the memory.

Tosh, the Imp hit a wall later, carried on though and will be repaired!
RhosRover, sounds like a good idea, no idea what rules and regulations have to be followed though? Someone on the Three Castles Trial told me they have to write to every house on the route! Probably not the case with a handful of cars, best to be sure though! We mainly go to the Andrew Greenwood shows, Triumph or Jaguar club events or just a good run through Snowdonia any day of the week if the weather is good! ^*^0 ^*^0
-
Good idea Rhos Rover. We would be interested if the time and place is right. Please keep us all posted.
-
It's a good idea, Rhos Rover. I'm sure the Forum can run to donating a Trophy and i can provide some photos of the event. $good$

The idea of a "Three Towns Classic Run" is excellent but be careful of all the rules and regulations. As stated by ME "write to every house on route" - not quite true but a lot of PR work has to be done beforehand - it does depend a lot on the type of event and the level of competition, as well as the number of cars taking part. The Three Castles ran tests on private land as well as regularity sections on the public roads, with about 600 miles to cover, planning of the 2014 event is already under way!
If there is any element of competition on the public highway (even if it is on the lines of a treasure hunt with clues) then authorisation from the MSA (Motor Sports Association) is required, and there are strict rules and procedures on getting your route passed.
I can offer some help on this as I am General & Competitions Secretary of North Wales Car Club, based in Llandudno Junction, so if a few of you who are interested would like to have a chat about it then I'm willing to help with advice and guidance. The club could also help with some things as well. I am free most days to meet up for a chat over a coffee!
Go to the North Wales Car Club website and click on the Cymru Trial link on right-hand side and you'll get my contact details.
