Title: Reduce Photo File Size to Post on Three Towns
Post by: martin on February 19, 2013, 08:02:58 pm
I have asked this before, but I am still having problems reducing photos to the file size that will upload onto the site.  As I want to enlarge and print some of my photo's, I have the camera set at maximum file size which produces a file of 7.6 mb.  What I need to do is reduce the file size to enable it to be uploaded.  I tried adjusting one earlier and although the file size allowed it to upload, the photo displayed on the forum was on the small side.  Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Hi Martin
I always use this website http://www.shrinkpictures.com/ (http://www.shrinkpictures.com/) and put the pictures at 760 pixels, when it has reduced the picture you right click it and save it to your computer.

Hello Jack, thanks for the info. But the size of my files are too large for the site to process, comes back with message that it exceeds the maximum file size.  Thanks anyway. $thanx$

Sorry Martin I misunderstood your original post, just looked and my photos are only 2.5mb so haven't encountered that!

Photos should be re-sized down to about 700 pixels on the longest side and be no more than 400k in size.

A program like this would probably do the trick, but please note I haven't used it myself:

Thanks Jack, not your fault, but appreciate your info.  Dave, I started to download that, and as usual you need to opt for the "Custom Install" to avoid them adding all sorts of things to your browser, I did this and unchecked the "use Delta as you browser", etc.  However, in the next step it will not let you to proceed unless you agree to their add-on's.  Not come across that before.  Anyway, thanks for the link.  After downloading many types of file reducing applications I finally found a free one that is very easy to use, (Resize My Pic), you simply drag the photo into the application and press a few buttons.  Now all I need to do is remove all of the other crap I have downloaded from my laptop.   $good$

One other thing to look at is resolution.  Pictures in here shouldn't have a resolution  higher than 90 dpi.

Forum member Trojan... who disappeared from the Forum, advised me to use DrPic.com

It has served me well in resizing images for th forum.
