Just picked the following up from a link in the Pistonheads Forum:
It was recently reported in Motorsport News that WRC rally cars will run on the streets on Llandudno in October as a promotional event ahead of Rally GB. It could be the precursor to the rally starting in North Wales in 2011.
There will be a selection of WRC cars running on the superspecial-style stage on Sunday October 31st. The exact route of the stage has not yet being agreed, but Gloddaeth Street /Avenue from the West Shore is a strong contender. Promotional events will also be held in Conwy on Saturday 30th.
The events is part of the organiser International Motor Sports’ push into North Wales, based around the new flexible WRC route rules.
IMS chief Andrew Coe said: “There are still a lot of details to be finalised. We’ve got quite a few people interested, because they’ll be coming straight from Rally Spain the previous weekend to test around here”. It’s possible that the 2011 Rally GB could start in north Wales and finish in Cardiff.
A spokesperson for the North Wales Car Club commented on the news “This will be so positive for both the area and the sport, North Wales has always been synonymous with Rallying. We’re looking forward to assisting with the event on our home ground”.

we'd be up for that too, I remember seeing the RAC Rally here around Marine Drive with Audi Quattros, what a sound they made, not sure what year it was though! must have been in the mid Eighties 8)

Does anyone think we should have a Three Towns Car Club and go out for interesting Drives or have a bit of fun with a Treasure Hunt? D) D) D)
-
Yes, that would be great ^*^0 D)

The Audi Quattro was fired up and what a fantastic sound D) D) the chap with it said 'he'd spent 7 months working 5 days a week just on the bodywork! I'm hoping for good weather tomorrow afternoon to see the cars running in Llandudno D)

This afternoon at the West Shore was just great!

It was a very good event. One thing I couldn't believe was that the rally paused in order to allow the car park machine to be emptied!

The weather held off and helped for an excellent event on the West Shore today.
I was extremely lucky to get a ride in the Audi Quattro, round the rally circuit.
The Audio is owned and driven by John Hanlow from Manchester, and as Merddin has said they have practically rebuilt every aspect of the car.
The star of the show has to be the Stobbart team's Ford Focus driven by Matthew Wilson (son of Malcolm Wilson).
Some Welsh talent on display as well.
Hopefully the team have put on a good show and hopefully put us in a good position to get one of the Full Stages for the Welsh Rally GB in 2011. The great turnout I know was more than anyone hoped for and was noted by WRC organisers.
I have a mobile phone video of Matt Wilson's run around the circuit on my blog: http://jasonweyman.blogspot.com/2010/10/video-from-rally-fest.html (http://jasonweyman.blogspot.com/2010/10/video-from-rally-fest.html)

I wonder why it needs a Group 4 Security van to empty the car park machine in the car park of Venue Cymru
-
Group 4 have a contract for emptying all the P & D machines. The chap attending to the machine at West Shore was either putting in more tickets or clearing a coin jam. The machine is emptied from in the lower pedestal, not the top of the machine! $uk
-
One wonders why he needed to do it in the middle of a a Rally, being as the car park was out of use all day.
-
What a great driver Matt Wilson is, the car just glides around the corners:

Great video Dave, lets hope we get some Rally GB action up here next year (like the good old days of the RAC Rally when around 1,000,000 spectators turned out and Quattros stormed around the Orme 8) 8) )

That's clever all I did was put the web address in the body of my message and it automatically uploaded. *&(

Don't know what went wrong with my post, didn't check it as I presumed it would be OK. That's life. ZXZ

That Matt Wilson video certainly is popular. Anyone catch a glimpse of The Stig?

F1 driver Robert Kubica has been seriously injured while competing in a rally in Italy.
Multiple fractures to all his limbs and he may have to have an arm amputated.
I guess that's the end of his F1 and rallying days.
-
Looks like they've saved his hand/arm after a 7 hour operation but he'll be out of racing for a year.

"Wales Rally GB, Britain's round of the FIA World Rally Championship, will visit a far greater proportion of Wales this November, with an opening stage on the legendary Great Orme set to kick off 2011's Wales Rally GB.
The event will also include central service at Builth Wells and forays to the classic forest stages of North and Mid Wales, culminating on the spectacular Epynt military ranges near Brecon.
The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society's (RWAS) permanent showground in Builth Wells, Powys will be home for the main service area, which will be under cover for the first time in recent years in Rally GB. The RWAS showground will also play host to the Shakedown on Wednesday, 9th November.
The event gets underway on Thursday, 10th November in Llandudno, where two stages on the Great Orme Toll road - last used on the Lombard RAC Rally in 1981 - and one at Clocaenog - last used on the Network Q RAC Rally in 1996 - will make up the competitive mileage for the first day. An opening ceremony will take place outside the picturesque castle in Conwy in the early evening, before competitors and their cars return to Llandudno for overnight Parc Ferme."

D) D) that is fantastic news! I will never forget seeing Audi Quatros going flat out around the Marine Drive, must have been in 81.
-
This is great news. There has been a lot of work in the background by CCBC and partners to attract the Rally back to Conwy.
-
I was lucky enough to win a ride around the Marine Drive in a rally car a few years ago when Conwy Honda sponsored a race (can't recall which one). It was an amazing experience and a real eye-opener as to how to drive at speed on such a small windy road. I lived on the Orme for 30 years and loved watching the rally cars as a kid, sometimes skiving school as not all races were held at the weekend. I used to pick a spot just before the lighthouse as there were a couple of good bends there so it was good viewing. It'll be good to see the 'Big Boys' back after all these years.
-
Need to pick a good spot to take some photos.
-
Looks like next years WRC GB rally is starting in Llandudno but NOT going around the Orme or going to the Clocaenog Forest, then that looks like it for Wales as the following years races look like they are going to the North East of England.
