Post by: AliceLlandudno on July 06, 2012, 04:36:04 pm
Does anyone know where in the back of Madoc St that Fredderick forrester lived/ had as his work space?
He is the man who created the white rabbit statue- am going back some years!

Thanks
Nicki

Something seems to tell me the workshop was somewhere today around the back of Boots opposite where Billy Wright’s café once was.

Just a thought, perhaps Ellerslea was the name of the front of the premises in Madoc St.  ;)

Just found this in a geneology site :

+George Henry Forrester, b. 25 November 1893, Ellerslea, North Madoc St., Llandudno, Gwynedd,

Does this answer the question?    ZXZ

Also this in the London Gazette:

estate of William Ellis Jones, of Ellerslea,
Arvon-avenue, Llandudno,

I suspect Mr GH Forrester was the father of Mr Dennis Forrester.

I think Dennis may have also been trading from Back Madoc Street as a monumental mason during the 1980's.

I have been given information from ABOVE that sheds light on this, (3 doors above actually) ..and agrees with Bri Roberts.

It was indeed Dennis Forrester, his workshop was on the site of the old cycle repair shop, and then he moved it to be next to the workshop of the source of my information.

The source of my information must remain a secret, but his initials begin with... Brian Thomas, Plumber of the Parish

Dennis's main work was as a monumental mason, ... and he liked his beer!   Z** Z**   (who doesn't?)

He was a good bloke apparently.   So there you are, he who knows all things has spoken!

Arvon Avenue was  known as North Madoc Street until 1910

In the 1929 directory I cannot find the name Ellerslea in any of the streets mentioned.

G. Forrester was at Broad Oak, 6 Claremont Road
Fred. W Forrester was at Dunedin, Queens Road
Wm Forrester, Monumental Mason was at  Argyle Road

According to  the "Streets of Llandudno" The site of the present telephone exchange in Argyll Road  once housed the yard of F.W,Forrester who carved the White Rabbit Sculpture!
