Title: Stuart Rivers
Post by: Cambrian on May 21, 2012, 06:12:49 pm
Sad to note that Stuart Rivers has died.  Someone who did a great deal of research into the history of the town - particularly the built environment - and is credited in most recent books as a source of information. He provided the impetus for the interpretative boards situated around the town and wrote most of the captions. Latterly Stuart was a stalwart of the Deganwy History group. Thoughts are with Elan and the family.

A very knowledgeable man, he will be sadly missed.

I'm really sorry to hear that.  I've only met him twice but he seemed a nice guy and he wasn't that old either. I was in school with his wife Elan so my thoughts are with her and the family at this sad time.

I am very saddened to hear this. I was only thinking of him quite recently strangely enough, I have worked with Stewart and his wife Elan on various heritage projects since the days of Llandudno Enthusiasts and shared with him the same love, passion and devotion for the town, it is a real shame. He was very passionate about the towns heritage, in particular restoration projects such as that of St George's School which he leaves in his legacy amongst many other notable projects during his life service to the town. Stuart in my opinion was one of the last few well-known local history advocates in this town of the highest calibre, along with the likes of John Lawson-Reay and Christopher Draper. Stewart was one of my inspirations back in the days when I was developing the Llandudno Enthusiast & Local sites (2004-2009) with the strong historical biases which still remain in this forums newer form today.

My thoughts are with his wife Elan and family at this difficult time.

R.I.P., & God bless.
