A couple of interesting photos, quite a few are of somewhere other than Llandudno and they are too small to get a really good look at. I recognised Bangor Pier in one of them.
-

-
sorry,
-
at the back of picture are inscriptions
-
just cropped these 2
I have a black and white photo which is very similar in a frame on one of my walls, it looks like the same two ladies standing on the left, but only one man in the middle.
Picked it up in Oxfam a few years back.
-
hello, posting 3 more photos, there is a name looks like castelle, and mother by a gate, the name castelle crops up a lot on photos about 20,she is visiting the area, and are very wealthy family, all in 1913 who lived there.?

-
Jacko, just a thought, I wonder if it could be Castell at the top of Nant y Gamar. The gate looks similar to one I have seen up there.
-
yes i did see this on old maps and there was 2 dwellings just above castell, was there an old castle in the area,
-

-
first page,
-
That looks a great find, Jacko. Hope you'll be able to share one or two pictures with us.
-
Jacko, Rhyl had a very long and interesting Pier. As did Rhos and many other towns.
You can read about them in this book... I have a copy, its great.

Rumour has it that there was once even a Pier at Colwyn Bay ...
-
Rhyl Pier in the 1950s:
-
When did Rhyl pier disappear? In that photo it looks rather better than Colwyn Bay pier does today.

So does the contents of my wheelie bin, sadly. :(
-
hello,llandudno no date,
-
Well, the Pier Pavilion is there, so post 1886. Probably around 1900.

It was finally demolished in 1974.
There are proposals to build a new one:
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/tm_headline=rhyl-looks-to-get-pier-back&method=full&objectid=19812291&siteid=50082-name_page.html (http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/tm_headline=rhyl-looks-to-get-pier-back&method=full&objectid=19812291&siteid=50082-name_page.html)
-
But has anything actually happened with that proposal in the last four and a half years?

Thanks for recommending this book Fester. I have ordered it. I have bought a few books recently about the area from recommendations on this forum. I was wondering if anyone had a list of books that they would recommend about the area as I am sure there must be more around that I don't know anything about?
-
There are quite a few books on the town worth reading - unfortunately many are now out of print but can be found at fairly reasonable prices at Lewis' shop in Madoc Street. (Madoc Books tends to sell books which have been re-bound and the prices are correspondingly dearer but can be worth a browse) and Bay Books opposite the Bay Shopping Centre.
I will mention a few that don't seem to have featured much on the Forum but which I find useful:
"Your obedient servant" George Hiller (2003) He was the Mostyn Agent from 1959 to 1988 and tells the story of the estate from his perspective.
"Llandudno and the Mostyn Influence" F. Ron Williams (2 volumes 1996 and 2002) Published by the Estate and Llandudno Historical Society.
"Streets of Llandudno" Edwards & Evans/Llandudno Historical Society. Mainly origins of street names but also anecdotes and some local historical details.
"Just Taking Stock" - Clive Stock. (2004) Covers Clive's time in Llandudno as an impressario, performer and manager of the Arcadia.
"Llandudno through time" Draper & Lawson Reay (2010) Mainly "then and now" photos but quite a bit of detail as you would expect from these two local historians.
I am sure others on the Forum will have other suggestions - there are specialist books on landscape topics and wild life as well.
-
Thanks Cambrian. I have ordered a couple of them today and I am looking forward to reading them.
-
Another useful source of historical (and flora/fauna) details are the "Proceedings" of the Llandudno and Colwyn Bay Field Club. These were published at various intervals between 1905 and 1954 with a couple of special supplements. They comprise a series of articles or reports of field trips. Well worth getting if you can find any. Usually the second hand bookshops mentioned will have some. Madoc Books has a full set but the price is steep. Try looking on the Abebooks site as I have seen them there as well.
-
I've seen those, too, Cambrian, and they look very interesting. A shame that they cant be republished, really, so that more people can get to see them.
-
Hey Jack just found this. Which shop did you buy the book in?
