Title: Double glazing
Post by: Llechwedd on January 19, 2012, 01:12:04 pm
We are thinking - at long last - of having the house double glazed.  Can anyone recommend a good company which wont charge a fortune?

We have not had double glazing fitted by these people, but I have had from them several replacement double glazed panels, including complicated ones with circles taken out, they have always been really helpful and their prices seem exceptionally good.  They are Clifton Glass, Builder Street West, Llandudno, LL3 1HH 01492 878905.  I would certainly ask them for a quote, steer well clear of the big names like Everest and the like, the advertising they do is reflected in their prices, you cannot beat using a local firm over a national one.  Good luck.   ££$

I too can reccommend Clifton Glass, they have fitted us with a new Velux roof window and also replaced/repaired a stained glass panel broken by a workman. Both jobs clean and efficient.

The said shed with double glazed window panels by Clifton Glass and framed photos by David Roberts from Llandudno Emporium!

Martin, don't delay. I love my shed!

Now, I am not sure this is going to work as I have not attempted to upload a picture before, but here goes.  If it works, the photo is the top of our garden where we would like something like the very posh shed that Hollins has.  We do need something up there other than the seat, the view is directly to Conwy Mountain and to the right, the Great Orme, so a seat upgrade would be nice.

O'h Martin, that is a beautiful place to put a shed.
This small family firm built ours,

http://www.dandpmarchant.com/ (http://www.dandpmarchant.com/)

They previously made us a log store. They did a first class job on both.
The father is sadly quite poorly so the son built the shed almost by himself, just a little help from a young assistant and an interfering husband!

Reid Home Improvements did the UPVC work on our dormer and it was excellent. They also do Double glazing work as well. I know when I mentioned this forum to them at the time they joined as a member.

Been messing around in Photoshop trying to get photos the correct size to upload, this is the upgrade from my first try, should be bigger, fingers crossed.  Hope it works!

Martin, that looks a lovely spot for a shed.  Hope it works out.

Llechwedd, I've not had double glazing fitted but Jeff Clutterbuck Windows, Deganwy, was very helpful when I needed to have an upstairs double glazed window taken out and then replaced to get a large piece of furniture in.

Blodyn - Did you know the furniture would not fit before or after it arrived?

I knew before it arrived that it would never go up the stairs and through the door!  It's an old family piece and when my mother no longer wanted it I was determined to get it in  - it's fortunate that the window was big enough.

I have just had a conservatory built and glazed by RICHARDSONS WINDOWS.
A local firm to Llandudno / Llandudno Junction.

Excellent workmanship and I am delighted with the price and quality.  I can sincerely recommend them.

That's alright then, I once had to saw a Victorian double wardrobe in half to get it up the stairs of an old cottage we moved to, the front was unmarked, but there was a great cut all the way down the back from top to bottom.  That "shed" of Hollins' you could live in that.  I have just bought a new car, so the old seat will have to suffice for a while yet, mind you, that part of the garden it at the very top, there a loads of steps up, my broken ankle is still not fully healed, so I don't get up there very often, but something like Hollins' would be nice.

I can't recommend Richardson Windows enough. I've used them a couple of times for glazing and guttering work and the results have always been excellent, very good quality at very good prices.

On another note, did Matt tell you he grew up only a few doors from where you now live Fester, or did you already know?

I have just had some very old double glazed windows replaced together with some  glass panels by James Neale.  Not only was he the best quote by over £400 but he has done a nice quick and clean job.   Faultless!   I am happy to recommend him and his lads.    $good$    ;D

They also do other work and I will be getting him back for some more quotations.    :D
