Found this picture today. Its one ive never seen before.......has anyone else ? Im thinking its from the 1950's, but im not sure. ???

It could well be the 50's Emma and I'm lucky to be old enough to remember it when it was like that and we used to go swimming from the steps. If you look under West Shore Issues on Local News and Discussions (pg 2 ) you will have seen how the area has changed but sadly not for the better

The steps look wonderful.......perfect for catching a few rays on. It really is a shame theyre not there anymore........just like the ones on the north shore.....got lots of pics of me on that beach when i was little with the steps behind. A real shame. :(

Looking at that my time machine is currently being set to the 1950's. Those steps remind me of somewhere just further south from here but I'm not quite sure where. Does Barmouth have similar steps going down on to the beach?
-
No steps like that at Barmouth. But they do have a very similar wall to how the west shore is now.
-
they have steps like that at Crosby, and on a clear day you can see the orme
-
That is true. I live in Crosby and the views are great on a clear day, all those Iron Men looking out to sea!

What a shame some idiot came along and completely bu****d up the West shore. we used to sit on the steps and have picnics when we were kids. By raising the shore they have made the sand situation impossible and the danger of flooding worse. Who pays these people? oh that's right.....us!

My thoughts exactly Llechwedd. I was on the West Shore this afternoon and it was high tide but the tide was nowhere near where the tops of the steps would have been and at a guess nowhere near the bottom of the steps either.
When we used to swim at high tide by the Tollgate I can remember having to walk down the steps and the tide was only up to the first step.
I think that the Llandudno U D C opted for the cheapest option possible and as I've said before, rather than paying the consultants for their work they should have sued them for the disaster they created.
Look at these before and after photo's and you can see more of the damage they have created.
