As a teenager, Gary joined Llandudno town brass band having previously learned how to play trombone and later joined the RAF as a bandsman. He later became a member of the RAF band in Germany.
It was before Gary joined the RAF that Jack lost touch with him, then discovered that he had married a Welsh girl named Lorraine who was a musician (a violinist) and they had two children, Ceri & Richard.
During this posting to Germany the band was involved in an autobahn crash in which several bandsmen died as the result of a fire on the coach they were travelling in.
The band was decimated and Gary was posted back to the UK to RAF Locking, Weston Super Mare and he joined the Western band of the RAF.
These events took place in the mid 80's.
The RAF association confirm that G A Smith was living in Colwyn Bay but they have had no contact from him since July 2000.
A third Party is trying to assist Gary's 80 year old father (Jack Weedall) desperately find his son.
