Gorst

Richard Williams of Deganwy built my great grandparents house in Rhos in 1900, and I believe started their builders merchants business in the late 30's, and still going strong.
-
In earlier days, builders had their own supplies of stop tap covers and inspection chamber covers, usually sourced from local foundries. It's still possible to see many examples locally with the name of the builder cast in the surface cover. There are a few in Craig y Don with "W. Dobinson & Son" on them. Another local builder and funeral undertaker who was based in Builder Street (!).
Bri - I think there may have been two separate Gorst firms, Eldon R Gorst and O E Gorst & Sons.
Another couple which come to mind from the 70s:
Dodwell Builders
McNeill & Co

Thank you, Cambrian, for the clarification.
gaztrucker mentions welmar as being a local firm.
I assume he is referring to Whelmar who built our home nearly 40 years ago.
I seem to think they were a Chester company who eventually were swallowed up by Salvesen Homes.

Don't forget Barry Gorst who built some houses on the Penrhyn Beach Estate, I very nearly bought a plot of land from him on the cliff side of Penrhyn Beach east but I backed out of it at the last minute

Davis and Jones who built Hotel 70%
E&H Griffiths Llandudno

I may well be wrong, but didn't Ashworth and Gorst eventually merge, then shut down a few years later?
-
Yes Dave Ashworth Gorst were around in the 1980's, O E Gorst built my bungalow in the late 1970's. Frank Tyldesley Ltd used to be a Llandudno builder in Queens Road & my Great Grandfather worked for Watkin Jones in 1893 when he was 17.
