We've just returned from Colwyn Bay Football Club  having watched Mothership who are a brilliant 'Led Zeppelin' live band, they were great and our ears are still buzzing 8) We found out about them as the base player is the mechanic who changed the cambelt on our Focus D)  If you are interested you can see them on Youtube:  mothership channel

Led Zep were the first live band I ever saw. Nebworth 1977 at the tender age of 13, my Mum still thinks I was staying at a friends house!

Can't find the Mothership page Merddin, could you post a link please?

One of my few claims to fame was a good while back (mid 80's) walking into a hotel bar in Manchester at lunchtime and seeing the whole band stood in front of me. I spent the whole of my lunch hour talking and drinking with them.  Despite their expected continuous downing of Jack Danielsand non stop smoking  they were all (maybe less so Animal) really polite and eloquent. Quite happy to sign my beer mat with autographs and chat away.

Met Rick and Francis from Quo a year or two back. Same there, both very well spoken and charming.

Last time I was able to drink actually with Motorhead was in Stafford in 1980 ....I am hoping that might happen again in 5 weeks time in my beloved Llandudno.
Lemmy is 65 on Xmas day this year.   All those bottles of Jack Daniels have preserved him quite well!
Title: Battle of the Bands, Eirias Park - October 29th
Post by: DaveR on October 09, 2010, 09:33:55 am
Tudno FM and North Wales Housing are hosting a Battle of the Bands later this month (October).

It’s taking place on the October 29 at Eirias Park, and it’s all part of a young persons information day for North Wales Housing.

If you have a band and want to take part, you must email andrew.stuart@tudnofm.co.uk or call 01492 863190, and register before the 22nd of October.

The judges on the day will decide the best, which will be featured on Tudno FM 107.8. The lucky band will win a studio session to record some of your tracks!

Before Sid Vicious was in the Sex Pistols he asked Lemmy Kilmister to teach him to play bass. But only after a few days Lemmy gave up and said "Sid, you can't play bass" Sid replied "No, I know" and walked away. A couple of months later Lemmy met Sid at The Speakeasy in London.

Sid Vicious: "Hey Lemmy, guess what! I’m in The Pistols."

Lemmy: "What do you mean?"

Sid Vicious: "I’m the bass player in the Pistols. It’s great, innit?"

Lemmy: "You can’t play bass, Sid."

Sid Vicious: "Yeah, yeah, I know, but I’m in the fu**ing pistols!"

Tonight it was Status Quo at the Venue Cymru... (in the theatre, not the arena).

The last time I saw them was in 1982 in Chester, on a tour ironically called the 'End of the Road Tour' ... they were supposedly packing it in back then.  L0L

Anyhow, I'm glad they didn't because its still a great show.

Francis Rossi has lost none of his vocal power, stage presence or charisma.  The other original member Rick Parfitt does very little musically and his voice struggles to get anywhere near the level required.... so Rossi (plus the bass and keyboard player) carry him.
It was an excellent set all in all, the acoustics were top notch,  the light show was brilliant... and ALL the old hits and more were well delivered.
By the end, 95% of the audience (those who were'nt in wheelchairs) were up and rocking... to 'Rocking All Over the World''

As with Motorhead, I decided to wander round to the Stage Door hopefully to get a picture.    (I got invite inside by Motorhead security)
Very few people seem to do this in Llandudno, whereas you get a hundred or so at the stage door at most other concert venues.
Sadly I had missed the great Francis Rossi (already on the bus), but I got a good picture with the Bass player...
He then informed me that Rick Parfitt was still to emerge, (which disappointed me a little) ... but Rick got his own back on me.
Because, after waiting for 15 freezing minutes, he walked out, totally ignored me..and said he was ''too cold to wait'' the required 3 seconds for a pic.

My wife snapped at him... ''you're not the only one, Pal''   ....   what a tosser he is!

Never mind, great gig though.

They were in Halifax the night before and my daughter was standing right in front of them. She had quite alot of interaction with Francis Rossi, but said she thought Rick Parfitt wasn't well.
Bradford for her later this month !

To be fair I don't think Parfitt was 100% .... but he still didn't have to be quite that ignorant.... and why didn't they just avoid songs which he couldn't mange?   God knows they have a big enough catalogue.

Bradford?   Yeeuuch.   Worst place in the world.

That's a bit harsh some of us still work in Bradford and actually survive...sorry you feel that way and despite you having moved on to your wonderful life at the seaside, I'm sure something good must have come out of it for you in 45 years.

Hey Scotty... YOU are not from Bradford!!!..... but did you enjoy your 4 hour walk home in the freezing blizzard?

I'm sure that something good must have come out of my 45 years in Bradford.....but other than the money I earned to facilitate my lifestyle in Llandudno, I am hard pressed to think of it!     (Other than my friendship with you obviously)
You know that I did have the privilege of travelling a lot in my career, and I really cannot think of anywhere worse than Braford... not in the UK at least.

Now... stop being jealous, I'm too busy enjoying my idylllic life by the seaside.

Never heard of these guys BrumBob so thanks for introducing them.

I was lucky enough to see the "real" Pink Floyd a few times, then along came The Australian Pink Floyd Show. "The greatest tribute band in the World". I never miss them when they're in the UK. Now it seems Aussie Floyd have got there own tribute band!

They look and sound great. See you on April 27th.

Yes, I also saw the real Pink Floyd at 'Mothers' nightclub Birmingham.

The British Pink Floyd Show is a reincarnation of The Australian Pink Floyd Show with many former members, in fact it is the full line up of the band members that do/did the American tours under the name of TAPFS.
Same light show, same engineers and above all Damian Darlington who is the life blood of both tribute bands.

The Australian Pink Floyd Show is still continuing with the original Australian musicians.

Thunder - Love walked in

Thunder must have been one of the most under-rated UK rock bands ever,
I've seen them countless times and even scagged a back stage pass where we lucky few talked and had a beer with them.
Alas, they have now disbanded but there is always a chance they could reform, they've done it before.

A bit middle of the road for me too Fester but a great alternative to the so called rock they play on the radio.
They are reuniting for a one off concert festival in London later this year and Danny Bowes (the singer that left and caused the band to split)
admits he really missed singing and being in the band more than he thought, so a future reincarnation is possible.

What is the Deep Purple line up these days Dusty?
What is the venue in Manchester?
I was at The 02 Apollo last week for Motorhead, (yet again), a superb gig.

The wierd and wonderful Hawkwind eh?
I have seen them on 4 occasions, and only about 6 years spanning those gigs.
On each occasion there were only one or two constant members, and the number in the band varied depending on who could be bothered to turn up.
They make no secret of the fact that they make much of the show up as they go along... still excellent though.

I like your photos. The colours have come out really well considering it must have been dark in there. I tried to take one when we went to the opera but there was not enough light.

I was talking to one of the shopkeepers on the pier today, he was no Pink Floyd fan, but he went to the Brit Floyd show last night and said it was absolutely superb.
One thing he remarked upon was the light show, he said it was the best he had seen in his life.

I'm not 100% sure that this is the right topic for this posting... but here goes.

Tonight, Mrs Fester and I wandered into the Cross Keys on Madoc St and a band had just started called Two Suns.
A five piece band from the Rhyl/Prestatyn area I think.

I took one look at them, and thought Oh no.   A female guitarist who looked for all the world like a history teacher or a librarian,
A female singer who just looked all wrong at first glance, and the other three members were geeky looking types on bass, keyboards and drums.   I thought, I'll have a swift pint and leave...

But, I will never, EVER judge a book by its cover again.
Basically, they are superb.
They delivered faultless versions of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Whitesnake, Wishbone Ash, and Van Halen numbers.... interspersed with more commercial Toto, Kansas and Bon Jovi classics.

The ''History teacher'' on guitar (Helen is her name) is incredible, I have never seen the like.
She stands there and delivers guitar solos as perfect as I have ever hear any mega-star do, and looks like she should be giving a sermon in a local church.  But to be that fantastic on rock guitar, she must have the devil in her....  WWW
She even did an Eric Clapton number, called Over Love, an obscure one really, but she was better than the man himself. I kid you not.

I have played guitar for over 30 years, (admittedly to a poor standard despite being in a couple of bands) ... but this lady is amazing an you would never believe it to look at her.
After the gig, I chatted to Helen and it turns out she is a scientist in the field of polymers.  Quite apt somehow.

If 'Two Suns' are performing near you, (You can find them on Facebook apparently, whatever Facebook is) I urge you not to miss them...... I would travel a long way to see them again.   A great night.
