US Women's Open: Welsh golfer Amy Boulden leads qualifiers

Wales' Amy Boulden headed the field at the qualifying event for the US Women's Open.

The 20-year-old from Llandudno carded two rounds of 71 at Buckinghamshire Golf Club to finish two under par.

That was one better than Scot Kelsey MacDonald and South African Nicole Garcia, who also qualified.

The remaining five qualifiers were English trio Lucy Williams, Rebecca Hudson and Holly Clyburn and Australian pair Stephanie Na and Nikki Campbell.

It is the first time qualifying events for the US Open have been staged outside the States, and Boulden was delighted with her success.

"I'm very happy. I played very well today so I'm very pleased," she said.

"I knew I was in the top eight, but I felt there might have been a few lower scores.

"I am very excited but I'm not trying to show it too much. It will help boost my profile."

A total of 73 players tried to gain one of the eight available places at Pinehurst from 19-22 June, the week after the men's US Open will be staged at the same venue.

Asia also hosted three qualifying events on Monday at venues in China, Japan and Korea, a reflection of the current balance of power in the women's game.

21 year old, Amy Boulden, from Llandudno is +5 after 15 holes in the first round of the US Women’s Open at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in North Carolina when play was suspended at 7.55pm last night.

Amy is currently 8 shots behind the leader, Stacey Lewis (USA), who went round in 67 which is 3 under par.

Ms Boulden completed her second round with a score of 78 making a total of 153 for her two rounds.

Sadly, this was not good enough to make the cut.

The golf legend, Laura Davies, from England and who was recently made a Dame in the Queen's Birthday Honours List had a total of 156.

Ryder Cup 2014: Win has not sunk in - Jamie Donaldson  $walesflag$

His superb approach shot on the 15th clinched a 4&3 win over Keegan Bradley on Sunday to give Europe the 14½ points needed to beat USA at Gleneagles.
"It's incredible," he told Radio Wales Sport on Monday evening.
"What an amazing week. For me, I played really well from the go and the team spirit was fantastic."

Donaldson began to realises the significance of his encounter with Bradley as fans gathered in greater numbers.
"It was quite quiet and as we turned onto 12-13, the crowd seemed to double every hole," he said. "By the time we got to the 14th tee it was absolutely chocka. There were cameramen everywhere.
"There was thousands of people on the hole and I knew then it was going to be tight.

GOLF: Amy Boulden just outside Lacoste French Open top ten

LLANDUDNO golfer Amy Boulden lies just outside the top ten after carding another 69 at the Lacoste French Open.
Boulden heads into the weekend having bogeyed just four of her 36 holes so far, giving her another fantastic chance to earn some good money atop the leaderboard as she looks to claim the Ladies European Tour Rookie of the Year crown.

GOLF: Amy Boulden facing battle to make cut at South African Open

The 21-year-old carded a 77 in her rain-interrupted first round, leaving her five over for the tournament.
Starting her round on the back nine, the Conwy Golf Club member started the round in impressive fashion, making birdie at the 11th hole.
Disappointment would then follow with bogeys at 14 and 15, before a stunning birdie at the 18th ensured she headed into the back nine on level par.
A bogey on the par five first hole put her back to one over, before heavy rain forced play to be abandoned for the day.
Boulden resumed her round this morning, but the first year professional endured a torrid end to her round, with bogeys at three, five, six, seven and nine leaving her with a five over par score for the round, giving her plenty of work to do in round two.
At the time of writing, Boulden is currently one over through six holes in her second round, six over for the tournament

Masters 2016: Champion Danny Willett's golf journey started in Wales
He's Yorkshire born and bred, but newly crowned Masters champion Danny Willett began his golfing life "in the middle of a sheep field" in Wales.

The 28-year-old won his first major by three shots on five under as 2015 champion Jordan Spieth crumbled during a thrilling final round in Augusta.
Sheffield-born Willett is the first European winner since Jose Maria Olazabal in 1999 and the first British victor since Nick Faldo's win 20 years ago.
It's a quarter of a century since Welshman Ian Woosnam won his only major at Augusta in 1991, but Wales can claim a part in the latest Masters drama.

Llangefni's pay as you play golf course, a former council-owned facility now run by a social enterprise, is a world away from the manicured splendour of the Augusta National.
"We used to go to Anglesey in Wales for two weeks in the summer and play the same nine-hole golf course three or four times,"

A GOLF professional has achieved the rarest of feats.

Lee Harpin, the PGA professional at Rhos on Sea Golf Club, recently tore up the course at Holyhead Golf Club.

Playing in the North Wales Professional Golfers Alliance, he completed an unbelievable round of 59.

That was 12-under-par at the venue and his bogey-free once-in-a-lifetime round contained four eagles and a quartet of birdies.

He smashed the previous course record by five shots.                ref Pioneer

A well deserved win for our Amy, but I do wonder where she will display the trophy  :-[        a trophy with bells on ! !

Llandudno golfer Amy Boulden produced a sensational round of a lifetime, firing a stunning bogey-free 64 (-8) to finish the week at 17-under-par and claim a three-shot victory from Australia’s Stephanie Kyriacou at the 2020 VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open.

The breakthrough victory is her first in 87 attempts on the LET and sees her claim the €30,000 winner’s cheque and rise 68 places to fifth on the Race to Costa Del Sol Rankings.

“It’ll take some time to sink in, I’m thrilled and really excited to get that first LET win. I am obviously overwhelmed. I was looking forward to getting out there today and I haven’t been in this position for quite a while, so I just tried to enjoy it.”

Hope House Tŷ Gobaith children?s hospices is seeking sponsors for its annual charity golf day which takes place on September 22.

Taking place at Llandudno?s Maesdu Golf Club, the annual event regularly raises in excess of ?10,000 for the hospice charity that assists around 750 local children and families annually with nursing, respite and end-of-life care.

The event is almost ready to tee-off, the main event sponsors this year are Wrexham-based Ash Waste Services, but they are also seeking a further two hole sponsors for the day.

Hole sponsorship costs just ?100 and businesses will get logo advertisement at the hole, an advert in the event programme, a PA thank you during the event and raffle and be allowed to hand out branded merchandise on the day in return.

Any businesses or sole traders wishing to snap?up the last two hole sponsorship packages can easily book their spot on the events page of the Hope House Tŷ Gobaith website or email golf@hopehouse.org.uk .

Personally, I think that the Rhuddlan Golf Club has been very generous in its offer to these vandals by offering  the culprits a chance to redeem themselves before they release the footage on Thursday morning. "Option 1" is to do manual work at the club, at "minimum wage rate" until the ?3,000 repairs and 26 staff hours are made good which they calculate at "80-100 hours (for) each individual". The second option is to repay the ?3,000 damage plus 26 staff hours.

They could have put the images on social media first of all and when they received the names of the culprits pass the details to the Police because that's no more than they deserve
