I bought some bags of slate fragments (40mm) to put on the soil in my garden to discourage weeds from growing. Three bags from a garden centre cost about £18 and, although they were heavy, they don't cover much ground when you empty them on your garden!
Given that we aren't far from areas where slate is produced here, I wonder if anyone knows a supplier of slate in bulk which would be much cheaper?

Have you tried the local builders merchants?
One of them will probably have supplied your garden centre.

I think B&M sell them 3bags for £10

Huws Grays of Mochdre sell slate chippings and have three different types and they will deliver to you. A large bag costs from £72.00 and weighs about 850 kg.
That may be more than you require but they may be able to sort something out for you and at least you can compare prices with the garden centres

I've just been talking to a neighbour who has done something similar to you Jonathan and he got his chippings from Richard Williams in Llandudno Junction.
As you are trying to discourage weeds from growing, I assume that you have put a membrane down first of all before laying those chippings that you have already put down.

Thanks for those responses - yes we're putting a membrane down under the slate chippings

Hello Jonathan.
I was beginning to think you had emigrated.

I need to do the same thing - where did you get them from in the end and how much were they?
