If so..I was wondering how you get 'promoted' in the heirarchy.
But...I am going to attempt for the FIFTH time to upload a photo.....previous 4 failed miserably
As I'm a sci fi enthusiast, I decided it might be fun to have Star Trek ranks, which I realised almost immediately was a mistake when Dave became Lt Comander before I did >:( >:( >:(...and now I'm a Captain! <:<:<:<
..and now I'm a Captain!
As long as you know you exist, that's the main thing! :D I take it all is well now?
Anyhow, perhaps we SHOULD become a closed order, develop our own handshake, and issue bespoke leather aprons to all Forum members?
a silent order in a monastery ....where we could seek permission from the all powerful moderators, once a year to post something. Something bland, something fitting...
Something in praise of the moderators themselves perhaps.
Hmmm...you're right; there was an English flag.
I think Trojan's on the right track here. The issue is obviously one of relevance to the forum, which is based in Wales. Wales is part of the UK, which is part of the EU. Therefore, those three flags are the only ones of relevance. Make it so....D)
I think that the page lengths need to be lengthened, or number of posts per page be increased
If you type the word p a i n without the spaces you get this $pain$Fixed! :)
Well, if this is your idea of having fun, count me out. Perhaps Ive just picked a bad time to read these posts,
I also find those games somewhat pointless, and their use seems to be a platform for those wishing to increase their "posting total" in very short time with the minimum of mental effort.
I think you're wrong about that. These two games run in other forums, and most of the folk who frequent them are those who don't give two hoots about their postings total. I think they just enjoy the game.
Mike - I've transplanted my response to your comment in the F for A thread so as to avoid interrupting that thread.Ian that has summed it up perfectly, every forum I've ever known has problems, this is one of the most peaceful ones $3towns$
Cyber communities are notoriously prone to personality clashes from time to time. There're actually very good reasons for this, both psychologically and sociologically. When we deal with other people in the real world, we take with us an armoury of signalling mechanisms and deciphering skills that allow us to determine what other people are really saying and why they're saying it. In any cyber community, however, we're deprived of most of the mechanisms and cues that allow us either to express ourselves unambiguously, or to comprehend people's motives when they write. We're left with trying to make sense of what people are saying purely from the page - and that presents all sorts of problems.
It also strikes at the very root of our need for recognition and approval. Most of all, we all want what we say to be appreciated and valued and most of us want to be held in at least normal esteem. However, when you're dealing with only a written medium, it's very easy to get the wrong of the stick, and to do so rather easily and it's equally easy for someone to misunderstand what you've written. Some people, for instance, come over incredibly badly in writing or emailing, but are actually rather decent folk when you meet them. I think we all have to make allowances - and it's not easy, I grant. But if anything surprises me, it's that we don't have more of such confrontational issues.
I won't quote, as it would make a very long posting, But I agree with Ian's statements, also Dave's. The word games are a pleasing diversion and cannot usually be misinterpreted, Barbiroli and I have always had alot of banter between us, I don't know her, but she seems to have the same sense of humour as myself.

Has something happened to the Classified Advertising thread. My ad seems to have disappeared! ¢¢##That's odd. Someone appears to have deleted that thread - was it Uncle Ian? ?{}?
When I sign in I click the "stay signed in" box but it doesent take any notice. I have to sign in every time. Ive tried deleting the "hours" box but that doesent make any difference. Any ideas?
A chat room was tried in the old forum, but, as you mentioned, the attraction did wane fairly rapidly. However, with a new merry band of forum members here, there might be some new interest. X:((I like the sound of that, I would use instant messaging. ;D
Hia, where has the Recommend a local business bit gone please ? :-*
I looked at a couple of jokes posted that day and thought...what?!! surely they'll get deleted
why use a big word when a diminutive will suffice?
It took me quite a while before I found this header ''Suggestions'', (it is too well hidden) and realised there was some discussion,
Just wondering....Why is there a Maidmarion and a Midmarion on the membership roster? One is a spelling error!

A Forum is only the sum of its Members' contributions, for good or bad.
I said ''Simple'' didn't I?
Perhaps instead of dismissing the place, he might make some effort to contribute and make it what he prefers it to be.That's it in a nutshell. If people aren't prepared to contribute, then they can't really complain about the content, can they?
The practice of making facetious asides or responses to serious questions happens a fair bit, but perhaps we need to moderate the practice a bit. It can become tiresome when you've asked a question and all that happens is folk post what they consider witty comments. It's human nature to try to make light of things, but perhaps there are places for it, and maybe we shouldn't do it in every topic.I agree, the more serious discussions (i.e. all those not in the Members' Lounge section) need to be kept clear of that sort of stuff. It doesn't encourage anyone new to post, really. :)

on the other hand it did encourage me, I like some humour, the 'real' worlds full of serious stuff, nice to escape from it, I can though see both points of view!I'm with Fester and Merddin Emrys, It was the humour and mixed comments that I liked too. If it were all kept serious it wouldn't be the same and I doubt I would comment on half the stuff. Although the comments have been moved to a different section, they mean absolutly nothing and do not relate to any prevous posting in that section and is therefor pointless. Little laughing signs etc make it more like a disscussion and less like a debate. Trojans pictures and Festers comical postings make this site more interesting. Someones "neighbour" does not speak for the majority of people posting on this forum and certainly has no bearing on the increasing numbers of people signing up does it? When the only person who's complained is also the same individual who has never posted, why does this same person affect the content of the forum? Sorry but that's what I think, There are a lot of faithful members on this forum who see no problem with content. Angie x

Merddin, lovely to see you and your DELIGHTFUL Mrs Merddin once again... I do hope you kept your hands firmly in your pockets at the Winter Fayre!
I just can't make them understand that WALES isn't in England !!
it can be argued by hereditary monarchists that Wales is a part of England. But who would listen to a bunch of people who are happy to bow down before someone they regard as their superior just because of an accident of birth?
With the Act of Union in 1536 Henry VIII made Wales a part of England. But who gave him the authority to do that? No-one asked the people of Wales what they wanted....or Scotland....or Ireland. We fought two World Wars supposedly for 'freedom', yet three of the four component countries of the UK were subsumed into the Union at the point of a gun.
He did not see the need to reform the government of Wales at the beginning of his reign, but gradually he perceived a threat from some of the remaining marcher lords and therefore instructed his chief administrator, Thomas Cromwell, to seek a solution. His solution was the annexation or incorporation of Wales which, along with other significant changes at the same time, led to the creation of England as a modern sovereign state.
Th Acts of Union were done by passing a series of measures between 1536 and 154. These included:
An act for laws and justice to be ministered in Wales in like form as it is in this realm (27 Henry VIII c. 26) in 1536, and,
An act for certain ordinances in the king's dominion and principality of Wales (34 and 35 Henry VIII c. 26) in 1543.
The first of these acts was passed by the English parliament which had no representatives from Wales in it at all and its effect was to make Wales an integral part of the kingdom of England: Wales ... is and ever hath bene incorporated, annexed, united and subiecte to and under the imperialle Crown of the Realme as a verry membre ... of the same.

Perhaps we could send E-Thug back in time to have a word?
Hundreds of years of Welsh culture, customs and language were magically supposed to be absorbed...........We only know what's been recorded, or not or destroyed.
Perhaps we could send E-Thug back in time to have a word?
But who gave him the authority to do that?
Working fine for me! Anyone else having any problems?
I had to wade through about 30 thread, and dismiss them all one by one.No need, at the bottom of the 'Unread Posts' page, there is a button on the right-hand side that says 'Mark all posts as read'. Click it and it clears the lot.

It's more to do with the numbers of photos in each posting. It might be useful to limit it to three in future .

I kind of got the jist from the earlier postings, but it got ridiulously techy.
Thats a great and clear explanation.
I have decided that its too much hassle, and I will have to remain un-anonymous!
Also, when "The one that calls himself Trojan" was moderator of the Llandudno Local, one balmy California evening, he was mysteriously unable to log in. Then, all of a sudden The Llandudno & Colwyn Bay Local's disappeared overnight. Maybe someone was privy to his password, or maybe it was a hacker? On the subject of disappearing forums, is this forum being regularly backed up?
Then Ollerton apparently walks into Kindways the next day, they start laughing hysterically at him and tell him his moderator has eliminated his forums.
I don't suppose this has been mentioned over a few beers in Llandudno town centre has it?
You're quite right, Fester, and I duly apologise. I had intended to PM you both, but things overtook me, yesterday, and I simply forgot.
It wasn't a major issue, really, but reading a couple of the comments made me feel mildly uncomfortable directed - as they were - at another member of this forum. They'd have been fine made at the bar in a night club, but not - I feel - in a public forum and not - specifically - when directed at another member.
I do find that sometimes pages with lots of pictures are very slow to load
You lot must have slow connections because I never have a problem with photos loading. Takes a few seconds and all is done.
www.betboo.com (http://www.betboo.com) is a fantastic website. That's www.betboo.com (http://www.betboo.com) ;D 8)Finally spotted betboo tonight, never noticed it before, it always seems to be David Roberts Photography or some Emporium or other

As for cutting the limit to two photos per post, wont people just make more posts of two thereby defeating the object.
Did I just say Betboo.com? Its the future of Llandudno in more ways than one...How right you are...
In short, if you want to keep in touch with everything on the forum, always use Show unread posts since last visitWell it doesn't quite work like that, Show unread posts since last visit only shows the last new post in a thread,
As a trial, I have installed AdBrite Advertising on the Forum.Where,
Well it doesn't quite work like that, Show unread posts since last visit only shows the last new post in a thread, there could be twenty new posts in a thread but in the 'new post' list only the last one will show up.
Great news if it helps with the running costs, nobody ever clicks on adverts.
I have removed Betboo for now. That's betboo.com $good$
Actually, I said "In short, if you want to keep in touch with everything on the forum, always use Show unread posts since last visit" and it does mean you do just that. I had thought folk would have realised that to do as you suggest would lead to the index being inundated with posts and therefore unreadable, which is why I didn't point that out. However, since you have, it shows you the last post in any topic where there have been any new posts since your last visit..
Great news if it helps with the running costs, nobody ever clicks on adverts.Actually, they do, and frequently.Obviously not enough to finance the forum.

Maybe in Brum - but most Local and National Newspapers are now available on line on day of issue!Very true, although there is usually a delay in publishing articles online to avoid damaging print sales too significantly and not all articles appear online.

I would like to make the SUGGESTION that the length of each page is increased to accommodate up to 25 posts because I find there is a PROBLEM on numerous occasions when I have to page back to get the context of the thread ***. So I would like to QUERY whether the powers that be could experiment with such an arrangement on a trial basis.
I am sure that there are other contributors who would find such an arrangement beneficial and make the reading of popular threads much easier. $uk $wales $eu

OK, thanks Ian.

The search function is niggling me again...I go to the Search Box (top right of screen). I enter in 'funny true stories'. The first result that comes up is the Funny True Stories thread.
I know that, somewhere, there is (or was) a thread called Funny True Stories.
I wanted to post there, but I looked for it in the appropriate topics, and couldn't find it anywhere.
Then I tried all combinations of those 3 words. It wouldn't pop up at all.
Hmmm, it always seems to happen at night. Z**Hmmm ZXZ
Just a little example of that....one thread called 'dreadful jokes', and another called 'jokes-dreadful'
Last time I looked, there were two threads about Rhos on Sea that were confusingly similar too.
one person's good joke is another person's dreadful joke, so which one does your joke go in?
As you will have noticed, Google Ads have been reintroduced to the Forum. Google suspended the original account after they found that someone had been doing a little too much clicking on the Ads - they are very sensitive about that sort of thing!
I noticed on the Amazon advert (which I DID NOT click on) ... they can't even sell Toshiba. (they say top electrical brands such as Tosheba)

Doesn't he live by the Links? Works for BT?
I don't think I'm explaining myself very well.
I am always logged in... my browser is set that way.
But how can a post that is UNREAD, (on a thread that I have been involved in) be UNREAD in the MY list ... but not in the total list?
But... I have to tell you... ''show unread posts since my last visit'' DOESN'T show them all...
When I have exhausted that list .... I click on ''show new replies to my posts'' ... and there are others residing there!
I find the easiest way is to go down the left hand column of the main page and if there are new posts go to that section. There I then look at all the new posts in that section, and take ach subject in turn sometimes having to back track for other posts in the same thread. Once I have exhausted that Section I then go back to the Main page and select the next section in the left hand column that has new posts. This continues until I have read all the posts or marked as read those I don't want to read. Simple really. ZXZ
One thing I would personally find useful is if it were possible to show a few more posts in the recent posts list. That one is simple enough to do - I have increased the number of recent posts displayed from 15 to 25. :)
I check this list regularly having become a 3 towns forum addict and most times it is long enough but it would be great if there were a slightly longer list to catch up with if there are a lot of posts within a few hours.
$thanx$
In that case should you not censor the words Pier, Golfcourse, Taxi, Hotel, retirement, newsagent, councillor, ....and hundreds more innocuous words?
I've removed several posts, where the contributors doubtless feel they're being incredibly amusing by pushing the banned words paradigm. But there is a serious side to this: some of you might not object to everyone in the world with an internet connection knowing where you live, where you work, how much is in your bank accounts and so on. But those jolly asides and knowing cyber-winks between those who know some things mask the fact that this information is not generally known, nor should it be. Already this week, a member's full address was published, and that sort of thing has to stop.
Does anyone else have problems when typing a longish post or when typing after a longish quotation? I find that if I do this the line I'm typing eventually disappears from the box and jiggles along out of sight, so that I can't see what I'm doing.
I can no longer see an out box (to remind me of messages sent)Click on 'My Messages' at top of screen, then hover the mouse over the orange coloured 'Messages' icon under the banner ad, and you'll see 'Sent Items' in the popup menu. Click on that to view Sent PMs. The direct link is here:
how can I see at a glance if there is a new message ? the old system told me at the top of the page.Still does. The 'My Messages' link will change to 'My Messages (1)' or similar whenever you receive a PM.
Love the new style and finding it just as easy to use except for one small thing - I see that the MARK AS READ option at the heading of each Topic has disappeared. I used this to remove the new post icon on subjects that were of no interest to me. Has it gone forever or can it be re-instated?It's still there on my Test account? Under the Emporium banner ad, I see 'New Topic', 'New Poll', 'Notify' and 'Mark Read'. See if yours is the same.

I can no longer see an out box (to remind me of messages sent)Click on 'My Messages' at top of screen, then hover the mouse over the orange coloured 'Messages' icon under the banner ad, and you'll see 'Sent Items' in the popup menu. Click on that to view Sent PMs. The direct link is here:
http://threetownsforum.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=pm;f=sent (http://threetownsforum.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=pm;f=sent)
Using the link I can see it fine, without the link I have no 'messages' icon under the banner ad? ???Have you clicked on 'My Messages' first? The 'Messages' icon only appears on the PM page.
Also, I can only stay logged in for 60 min, before having to log-in again. Is the 'always stay logged in' box ticked and the 60 minute box greyed out?

I've always had this problem with logging in-- no matter what I do I still have to re- log in.It must be some sort of problem with your browser security settings, I suspect.

I have added in a new section as an experiment - http://threetownsforum.co.uk/forum/index.php/board,27.0.html (http://threetownsforum.co.uk/forum/index.php/board,27.0.html) - this uses the News Bot to automatically pull in news stories from sources such as the BBC, Daily Post and Weekly News. I am not sure how well it will work but will give it a try.
I like Nigel, who needs local papers when Nigel gives us all the local news for free! D)I've just re-jigged Nigel so that he gives us more local news, rather than stories about Anglesey etc. :)
Can someone please help me find the long-running TOPIC on Craig-y-Don?
Nigel the news bot any chance he could have his own topic rather than multiple threads?I don't think Nigel can be modified in that particular way, I'm afraid. I can set him to post news items less often, maybe once a day instead of twice as at present? He only posts a FixMyStreet problem when a new one is added, so probably once a week or so.

I often have a problem if I want to use part of a quote rather repeat the whole thing. My reply always comes within the quote.
I have seen other people do it correctly so I know it is pilot error on my behalf. Could someone explain what I am dong wrong please?

I find that the easiest way to quote part of a post is to start off quoting the whole thing
I often have a problem if I want to use part of a quote
I find that doesn't show who the quote's from.
It gets on my nerves when the spell check is done the American way.
hat leest you speled it rite
I deliberately opened a new topic for the subject, as putting them in the 'eyesores' section would have pre-judged my opinion of them. Ian seems to have made that decision for me, and imposed his own view.
The Forum isn't behaving properly.
If I 'Quote' someone's previous post, to refer to it.... it does not display the previous post on my new one.
If I make a mistake and press 'modify' ... it now won't allow it, and just opens a box for a New Post.
Fix my Forum!
I dont often use the search facility, but today I did. I put in Colwyn Bay waterfront. We think you may have meant Clown Bay waterfront. Have the searchers been nosing around CBC?
Also, why have the other 3 Forums I am a member of (including ADVFN.com which is worldwide) not taken this step?To answer your question about ADVFN, I suggest you try sending me a PM on there and see what happens. Then report back here. ;)
IAs far as the Forum is concerned the day of Free Speech is over and the Admins or Moderators will have to get out their blue pencils are start editing or otherwise censoring posts. No doubt this has also crossed your minds.Indeed it has. Fortunately, compared to a lot of Forums, everyone on here is well behaved. $good$

OK, whether we like it or not, the PM facility has been deleted, fair enough.
So, here is a little 'shout out' to those members who had occasion to send me a PM over the last 12 months...but can't drop me a line anymore, (as I am not a facebooker)

You just need to ensure you tick the box to ALLOW USERS TO E-MAIL ME.
The facility will then show up just under your name with any posts you make.
You see the small envelope over to the left now.
Hover your cursor over it with your mouse to see Email.

I do not think this will make any difference to the legal responsibility of the site owners as the mail will be set up using a template on the site and the routing will be via the normal hosting company and its procedure. :(

Better disable that feature as well then!
I don't see these pictures as I stay permanently signed in and land on the Forum Index page when I go to the Forum. :D
Last night Fester emailed me to say that several posts from Friday evening had vanished, yet at the time I could still see them! This morning I have a look and they have vanished! What is happening?

There were some about photography, a couple about Fester's plans for new year, about 6 or 7 I think, all very odd!I recall one or two of them but I've no idea where they have gone. A blip with the server maybe.
The most likely explanation is a server glitch.

That problem has come back again about the pop up and something to do with a script not running correctly. I think it was Welshmunchkin that pointed it out last time and it did stop for a while afterwards. If you can tell me what the popup message says, then I will try and fix it. :)
Have tried to find the original post but failed, sorry!
The Penmaenmawr forum and it's backup has been wiped from the server this weekend by a computer glitch :rage:Why would you have a backup on the same server as the site? Defeats the whole object of a Backup surely?
10 years worth of posts disappeared by a gremlin in the works

I get the same message - sometimes. It seems to be a known issue but there are no easy answers, yet.
Today I received a very short mail to my Gmail account asking me to verify the account by clicking to go to another site. Dave, I've just posted a photo on 'people' and the date shows dec 30 2012, has anyone else had this problem?Oh yes, I've no idea why this should be, to be honest! I will have to investigate.
Thanks Dave, same happened today with another photo $walesflag$So I see. It's a little bit odd, as the pic I uploaded yesterday is dated correctly and so are all the others uploaded this year. It's a puzzler!
Whatever the problem was with me posting photos and having the wrong date seems to have sorted itself out. Photo posted today shows 'today' $3towns$All's well that ends well, then! $good$
A lady called I think Rebecca keep on appearing as is having trouble with her phone. She wants me to call her. I also think if she doesent put on some more clothes she's going to catch cold.Fester says he doesn't mind giving her a ring if you're busy, Mike?
For the last three evenings I have had only sporadic use of the Forum.
I can access it without problem, but as I try to move between different topics, I get thrown out with the following message.
Service Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.[/b]
I have to emphasise that neither problem is encountered whilst using any other site. Strange.
What happens is, (and only when I'm using the Forum) that I can be halfway through typing a word, and the word will simply not complete. Key presses simply do not work for up to 60 seconds or so. Its very frustrating.I get that as well. I'll sometimes type a sentence and only half the words will appear on the screen! As Ian says, it might be something to do with FireFox, I will have to investigate that angle.
Test post for new image uploader:

It very nearly is, try adding an image. Just click on 'add image to post' (above the text box) and a pop up box appears, you just select the image and it is automatically resized etc. The only problem at the moment is that the displayed image is too small - I'm seeing how to increase that. That feature wasn't reliable, so I've binned it. I've replaced it with a built in image resizer, so you can upload larger images (subject to max size of 500k per photo)and they will automatically be re-sized to display correctly on the Forum. This image was originally 900x600 but was resized down to fit the Forum automatically:
With annoying regularity, (every minute or so) the screen freezes, neither the cursor or keyboard are operational for the next 60 seconds or so.I think I may have fixed this problem (an errant piece of software), if anyone still encounters the freezing problem that Fester describes, could they post on here please.

Well done Dave! I knew it wasn't my PC playing up, as it was Forum specific.
It was incredibly annoying.

Certainly looks crowded. Is this an average day in Llandudno?I'm sure shopkeepers and cafe owners would be wishing that were the case!
Sadly now I can no longer get pics up, some went up, but it's now telling me they are too big, must be under 500k, shame it was working well earlier, unless it's my ancient PC?Have another try, and see how you get on. I've altered the settings slightly.
DaveR, Thanks, it is much better not having to resize the photos but I notice that the ones I have just put on seem too wide for the forum page. I seem to have to move them left and right to see the whole picture. Is there something I could do to improve that? We're going into the realm of screen sizes now. On my Mac, the photo you just posted of the (lovely!) breakfast takes up only about a 1/3 of the screen. On my iPad, I have the same problem as you, namely I have to scroll slightly left/right to see the entire photo. I've had a look and it seems 610pixels width is the largest the Forum can easily accommodate on all devices, so have altered the settings.
I took some short video clips of the concert last night but I don't think it is possible to put those on the forum is it?
With regard to this recent imaging improvement...No, you shouldn't have too, the software will automatically sort them out. Try it and see! $good$
Do I still have to resize my pics to take them below 500kb size, before attempting to post them?
Morning Ian. I had started a topic called Art a long while ago in the Music, TV and Arts section and a topic called crochet in the Hobbies section. Maybe they could all be combined in the new Arts and Crafts one?
I know you like tidying....so do I!
Please excuse if this is a daft question but would it be possible to have the recent posts page automatically update like it does on facebook rather than have to manually refresh all the time?I've just had a look and it doesn't seem as if it is possible at present, as no-one has written the piece of software that could do it. However, I've enabled a little piece of software that pops up with notifications of replies to your posts in the top right hand of the screen. Not quite what we were looking for, but let's see how it goes.

Works fine for me, I would suggest its a cookie problem on your computer perhaps.
I am finding that I have to log in every time I visit the Forum. Previously I have used the stay logged in feature but this does not now appear to be functional? Is this a fault or has the feature been shut down?
It's still working for me on iPads, Laptops and our iMacs and Mac pros. It's possible you might have to use the restart function on the iPad, or possibly even reset it.
I am aware that I am an 'ad-free' member, but I am now being bombarded with adverts, some of them very suspicious looking.
Is this a problem with my laptop perhaps, or could it be a punishment for the naughty jokes I inflicted? ?{}?

There's no messaging service now so I'll have to ask here.......can I put our fundraising effort details on here along with the links to the facebook page and the giving site please, I'll do it on a separate thread. Don't worry if not I'll understand.
Hey Mike, I don't think you have a 'nasty post' in you, my friend.
But you are right, I do have hidden influence on this Forum... so deeply is it hidden that I, myself have no knowledge of it!
Now, recently you had that Genio virus on your PC, remember?
Perhaps as part of cleaning that off, you wiped your cookies off too.... (I did that when 1-Rob1 aided me in eradicating a virus earlier this year)

That facility exists as a plug-in for the forum. We have it, but it's not currently installed. The problem about 'ignore user' facilities is that they can distort boards and topics, because threads of meaning are lost once it's enabled. However, have a think as to whether you really want it to be installed and I'll check with Dave as to his thoughts.

People who are regular contributors to the Forum and give it support do not see any advertisements cropping up on their pages. Those who post only spasmodically see the adverts. I believe after posting a certain number of times , e.g. 250, you become adfree.

I think he has been getting a lot of "stick"from some quarters. This happened to him a couple of years ago when he was in the throes of producing a local magazine. He had his own Forum running at that time. I think he went off to Blackpool. ZXZ
If it was not Ian then, my evidence is incorrect, but someone needs to be accountable.
Sorry, no apology, as my evidence was based on reasonable grounds, and I felt it necessary to voice them.
However it is interesting that when I first posted, I received a private communication and in a list of 3 suggested names, Ian's name was included. So you based a very serious accusation on a message you received with a random list of names in it? Someone's been playing you for a fool, Yorkie, and I'm surprised that you allowed yourself to be taken in like that. They are no doubt sympathising with you publicly, but laughing their socks off in private at the pickle you have got yourself into. &shake&

Well, post the 'evidence' in here. Dave and I are very happy for you to do it. If you have clear and incontrovertible evidence then you should post it. That's all we're asking. What are the 'reasonable grounds'? Identify them, so we can all see.
And yes, someone needs to be accountable; I agree. But you should take care that it won't become you.
You cannot post accusations on a forum without evidence. If you do, and you don't support them you run the risk of being seen as malicious, or worse. I say again: post the evidence or apologise and withdraw them.

Funnily enough the Member, who I will name if you wish, included DaveR as one of the other two names he suggested...So you are asking me to compromise another Member who was only asking if my post referred to some particular individuals? My loyalties lie much deeper than that...
I thought it best to mention that here, as I have no agenda, and am pretty much out of my depth with the Twitter/Oscar stuff.... and have not seen any of it.
Just on the pier, posting from my iphone...
For the record, it was me who during a game of Scrabble with Yorkie asked him who he thought was stalking him. (Having read the forum posts 2 nights ago)
Yorkie did not want to name and shame, but I asked again.
In that text I (jokingly) said 'who do you think it is? Ollerton? Ian?? SDQ?? Dave R???

Yay! I made it on to 'The List'!
Three things have happened in rapid succession this past few days: someone - clearly with a lot more time on their hands than I - has been causing you a lot of problems. I believe the 'lot of time on their hands' qualifier is the important bit. You're almost certainly looking for someone who has plenty of time, is an avid Twitter and Oscar user, and someone who might possibly bear you some sort of grudge. Secondly, Oscar has closed, although not for the first time, and thirdly one member openly asked for his membership to be deleted. Is it, d'you think within the realms of possibility that there's some sort of connection?Wise words, Ian. $good$
In my stalking days I had a crystal radio outfit with a cats whisker. Doubt whether anyone of you knows what that is. do dabble in twFixed on my bike, it was.
By the way I liked your photo of the Waverly, it was really good considering how far out the ship was. The Waverley must have left Colwyn Bay yesterday as I couldn't see it from my window.
Hugo, have you tried turning the computer on and off again? It can often help, sorry that's about as technical as I get! ££$
Try reloading the Software that came with the camera. Reboot PC and try again.
I had a problem a couple of days ago that resolved itself when I gave the connections a bit of a clean! :D
The solution to my problem was just to take the card out of my camera and put it directly into the socket provided at the front of my lap top and hey presto it worked! ??? :-[
Fester, you could have saved me a lot of money if you had told me beforehand. :'(
It's so easy once you know it and I'll do it that way in future. I use Picassa for creating my files and resizeing the photos
Over on the "Assets" thread, DVT just posted the dates for the Cambrian Rally, I did not know about this event, as I have been away, how many other events am I missing? I checked the calendar, no mention (I have put it in, along with the Wales Rally GB). But how many others like me?
I was thinking, it would be a good idea, to have an events calendar, ideally a one page at a glance, that could be filled in by those in the know, even linked to the "assets" thread?.
Not sure if it is possible,or needed, over to ADMIN. :)
There is a calender function with the forum software, but it's not terribly useful. The best system seems to be the 'what's on? board as recent items are always moved to the top of the topic listing. Thanks Ian, SDQ. The forum calendar, could work, just needs filled in.
I have been away for the last few days and when I returned I logged into "Recent Posts" to catch up on the previous week's posts, but I could only access the previous 10 pages (100 posts), spread over the last 3 days. How do I go back further to access the rest of the pages posted (back up to Sunday 12th October) since I went away?

Where is everyone? The number of posts seems to be reducing day by day! No-one got anything to say? Or are all our lives so quiet these days?
All the local issues are still unresolved and even a local Trial has gone un-mentioned. At the rate we're going with the diminshing number of posts, it will be closed in a fortnight! Except for Genealogy, which always has a post or two.

SORRY I GOT IT WRONG!Can I just remind you that when you respond to a PM, you must log in to the Forum and reply. Just clicking 'reply' to the email notification you received means that your reply comes straight through to me rather than the desired recipient...as it did this morning.
Sorry again, but I was getting an error message and so had to resend the only way possible. Eventually I got it through via the correct route. No worries, it took me a while to work out why you were sending me an email containing that sort of gossip and insinuations about various local people.

"No worries, it took me a while to work out why you were sending me an email containing that sort of gossip and insinuations about various local people."No, it doesn't. Does this tittle tattle behind the scenes happen on a regular basis?
If so I think it a shame that there is a hidden forum within the forum containing such talk about anybody let alone possible fellow forum members.
The know all brother in law seems certain it's down to a retired guy, please God deliver me when the day comes from sitting at a computer all day slagging off all and sundry.
Let's move on from this depressing subject onto more cheerful happy stories which the forum is known for.

Mike puts it very well. I'm sure everyone would wish him a speedy recovery.

Yes - I spotted the duplicate and approved your mother, S. As it was your IP I assumed it would be okay. If she logs in with the details she provided she;ll be very welcome. She ought to have had an email, but it might have gone amiss with the weather :-)) I was getting a few problems last week on the internet.
It still says 'Christmas is coming' at the top of the page, a truly horrifying prospect at the best of times! Could it be changed to spring, Summer, Easter? :)Christmas...has gone. :D
There was - but not at our end. For most of the afternoon our hosting company was having problems. Seems to have resolved itself now, however. Our Hosting Company provides updates to service interruptions here:
I shall investigate, folks.Any luck with the spell checker Ian?
the alternative of having one person virtually taking over the forum is in my opinion unwelcome.
I've been out boozing tonight, and I have decided that I will take over the Forum, by means of a coup d' etat.Quotethe alternative of having one person virtually taking over the forum is in my opinion unwelcome.
Well, apart from the fact that no one is 'taking over' the forum and can't be, when anyone is free to post, I have to say that any member who posts frequently and stimulates debate is more than welcome.
I use Windows 7 and have had a problem with the Windows freezing. The screen I was on at the time would disappear and about 30 seconds later would pop up again. Also I've had requests to upgrade to Windows 10 and I've always declined them.I also have been getting frequent offers to "upgrade" to Windows 10 for some time and I've always declined them because like you I'm used to Windows 7 and I've had conflicting reports of Windows 10 from friends. Can you let us know how you get on with it now it has been "imposed" on you and I'll steer clear of the "Cap Locks " key in the meantime! $thanx$
I was going to call the engineer in anyway but last night when I was in the process of sending an e-mail I just touched the cap lock and the system shut down on me.
It then of it's own accord upgraded me to Windows 10, a system I didn't want and didn't request and I'm now unable to do anything on it apart from Google.
I'll now have to get the engineer in anyway. :rage:

Thanks Hugo. Same here have not got a clue with IT.
I will have to contact Matrix Computers in Oban to see if they can help . Why when things are working fine does someone have to interfere.

The dash cam should provide information about where it saves the files and how the files are identified. I'd advise going onto the maker's site, look under 'support' and that should feature your model, from where you can probably download all the instructions you need. It's also wroth bearing in mind that dashcams tend to create largish files but save them in relatively small blocks - approx 3MB.
Our dashcam, a Nextbase 512, saves its files in windows thus:
C:\Program Files(x86)\NEXTBASE\NEXTBASE Replay
but it may differ on your makes.
A friend who is very good in IT has Windows 10 and he gave me some advise and that was when Windows 10 has an upgrade it can effect the system for a bit while it is upgrading so I've just got to learn how to be more patient and wait until the system sorts itself out.
Just read this. My spelling is bad. My keyboard mistakes are plentiful. And My grammar is not too good. Why? Because I type fast straight out of my head. I haven't got a lot of time to waste in correcting obvious errors.
All I can say is that the Troll has picked on three successful and popular individuals and has done so out of his jealousy for someone more successful than himself. You've summed it up perfectly, Hugo. $good$
These vile people do this because they are, or believe they are, anonymous.... There is a process to follow first, before that happens.
I can see no proper reason not to fully name them here and expose their activities.
When these people are exposed, they stop, some reincarnate themselves to continue. However, I am a firm advocate of naming and shaming them every time.

Don't seem to have these issues with Apple... $cofffee$
Some in the US have started to fight back......

My laptop which had Windows 7, upgraded itself to Windows 10 against my instructions, it has now upgraded the Windows 10 version.
Now I can't send or receive e-mails from one of my e-mail addresses and I can't download any photos from my camera. :rage: :rage:
So now it's a phone call to the IT engineer and a trip down to the cash machine at the bank. :rage: :rage:
Nemesis, if you can, stick with Windows 7 as I'm turning into a grumpy old man with Windows 10
Hint....make sure you now have the anniversary update (1607).
simple to check....

Well, if anyone decides to defect from M$ there are at least two of us in here who know their way around Mac.But just bear in mind....
The IT guy called around today and fixed the problems that the anniversary update microsoft created. At least things are back to normal but at a price. :'(I do find it all amazing. Don't Microsoft test their software thoroughly before releasing it? Their track record on this sort of thing is just getting worse. &shake&
I just hope that Microsoft don't do any more updates for a long time
Haven't yet downloaded the iOS 10 update - nor yet moved to Sierra on the main systems. But I don't believe there are many issues with Sierra, and Apple released a quick patch for the iOS 10 issue, which seems to have resolved it.
I have a Dell laptop and it's operating ok but this last week something has happened to it and I don't know why.
When I want to close the lap top down I click on power, then click on shut down and the system closes down but I still have a white light showing on the front of the lap top. After a short while I put the top down but the white light stays on.
It's not stopping my machine from working but has anyone any ideas on this.

Fester, I find using Sky Chat very useful, if you can manage to find it.
Have you ever dealt with the BT Call Centre out in India?

... and don't get me started about TalkTalk, They're just downright evil.
Ad free membership kicks in automatically once you exceed a certain number of posts. We have adverts as that's one way in which we finance the cost of running the forum. As you seem to be ad free I"ll take a peek and see what the probeom is.
Can I ask do any other ad free members see the ads?
As I logged in now a new dating website appeared and although I keep deleting them they still bounce back even though I never open them in the first place.

I suspect the explanation may be a simple one....the members are viewing the forum without being logged in?
I've just tested it with a dummy account, no ads are displayed to adfree members when logged in but are displayed when not logged in.
I log in every time but still get adds, not that they bother me, I take them for grantedYou should be Ad Free next time you log in. $good$
I've had my laptop fixed but that is the good news for me, the bad news is that I've lost everything that was on it. The hard drive had gone and nothing was recoverable on it so that's about 10 years of photos and everything else lost just because I failed to back the system up
It's a hard lesson and my own fault, but I hope that everyone backs up their computer because I certainly will in future
I've still got the hard drive which the IT guy brought back this morning but he said that he had tried his best to recover anything on the drive but said that he couldn't get anything.at all.
I've just kept the drive for the moment

Hugo: I'd be happy to take a stab at it. Drives are odd things, in that for no apparent reason they can suddenly boot up. But I have some tools which may work for some files.
Sorry to hear the bad news Hugo , but it is quite easy to forget to back your info up ,especially your photos they cannot be replaced ,perhaps members of the forum can figure a way to email your past photos from your walks etc back to you .
I need to change my forum name fairly sharpish cos I getting loads and loads of abuse. Could you help me. Just Michael owen would be nice

I'm pleased to know that your system is ok now Steve but when you are talking about all those drives I'm afraid that they mean little to me.
I'm going to have to call in the IT engineer anyway and hope that Santa brings me enough money this Christmas so that I can pay the guy :(
The hard drive that is going to be installed is better than the one I had and will make the laptop faster and hopefully will last longer than my last one.
The sooner I am back on line the better
