Hello. I'm not strictly a new member as I joined some time ago but I was away from the forum for some months. Since I came back I've noticed a few new names that weren't here when I left so I'd like to introduce myself to those.

My name is Paddy (yes, it's my real name) and I was born in Llandudno in 1964 and have lived here ever since.

I was educated at Stella Maris (now Blessed William Davies), Loretto (now closed), YJB and Bangor Uni.

I work in Llandudno as a taxi driver and part time postie.

Your turn!

Thanks Paddy. I'm Stan the bellringer man and have been a member of the forum for some time.
Now retired from a career in Barclays Bank, and I hasten to add, at a time when the banking profession was held in much greater esteem than it is these days!
I moved 'with the job' to Llandudno in 1983 and having lived in Llandudno, moved to the outskirts of Conwy after retirement. Now enjoy my bellringing at Holy Trinity Church as well as a few other not so energetic persuits.

Well done, you two...

I'm David, one of the two Administrators on this forum. We originally set it up back in 2010 to act a replacement for the now defunct Llandudno Local and Colwyn Bay Local Forums.

I've lived in the local area all my life. When not devising new ways to try and make the Forum break even, I spend my time making a fortune from the stock market, sitting outside coffee shops and taking photos.

Hi I'm TheMedz. Originally a woolyback from Lancashire I moved to Bolton and then Warrington for 20 odd years. We arrived in Llandudno with the snow in December of 2009. I worked in IT for over 30 years, mainly in the Banking industry, and have, I think, now retired.  My interests are walking, reading, wildlife and watching sport (BWFC fan unfortunately at the moment).

Hi Folks.

My handle is Yorkie - not because I like driving trucks or that I like chocolate - just that I am proud of my Yorkshire roots.  Actually I am half Dutch and half Cumbrian via Yorkshire but born and bred in the Smoke and have lived all over the UK including Scotland, West Country, Home Counties, Midlands and now Wales.   This may well give a clue as to why I have such diverse opinions and love an argument, or should I say discussion!.   Spent most of my working life associated with the Construction Industry on behalf of a few Foreign Companies.  Been retired for 16 years now but still have an active interest in many topics and am an Advanced Driving Tutor and driving enthusiast.  Don't expect profound comments or total agreement with any opinions given on the Forum.   >>>

My megre intelligence quotient can be gathered from the fact that I am willing to confess to having been (note past tense) a Llandudno Town Councillor.   Wow - am I pleased to have got that off my chest!    _))*

Any questions you may PM me but I cannot guarantee any sensible reply.

Hello, I'm Blodyn.

My father came from Deganwy and my mother lived in Llandudno for a while but I was born and brought up in Sussex.  I fell in love with North Wales, and this area in particular, on our first family holiday here to visit Dad's family when I was a child.  After studying at Bangor I had years of hiraeth in various parts of England till I was in a position to be able to work mostly from home and moved here in 2000.

I'm one of the team of volunteers who look after St. Tudno's Church and I also enjoy photographing wild flowers, walking and reading.

Hi,
I first knew Llandudno in the late Sixties when we came on holiday here, we stayed in a holiday flat at 5 York Road.  I loved riding on the tramway and the old buses doing the trip around the Orme. Interests include classic cars, narrow gauge railways, dabbling with photography, getting a good income from the stock market, walking around streets looking for unusual features, looking around derelict sites, must not forget my beloved 3 pigeons, collared dove and a canary  D)  The Merddin Emrys name comes from the Festiniog Railway and is the name of a Fairlie double steam locomotive. Moving from Penrhyn Bay to Rhos on Sea next Tuesday!

Hello, hello?... can you hear me through this newfangled contraption?   Ah yes, thats better.

I'm Fester, a thoroughly fantastic bloke, loved by all that knew him, and will be deeply missed.
Oh, we are not doing epitaphs? its introductions is it?

Right, well I'm still Fester, and I hail from Yorkshire, despite having three out of four Welsh grandparents. Odd really. $walesflag$

I'm 47 now, and had a 27 year career in the Home Shopping industry, managing (or maybe mis-managing?) everything from Purchasing depts, Warehousing, Transport, Customer Services, Creative, blah blah... all very boring. But it did get me to many countries of the world on business.
I hated every minute of it, but it paid me well enough to leave the rat-race behind and come to live in this beautiful part of the world while I'm young enough to enjoy it.   Redundancy, you can't beat it!

My hobbies now include;
Having a beer or seven with Dave R, and Mrs Fester
Dabbling in the stock market, (AGAINST Dave R's strong advice usually)
Visiting Merddin Emrys's bird collection,
Running a small (one might say infinitesimal?) business on Llandudno Pier,
Playing Darts, (with Forum member Born to Run)
Enjoying all aspects of this area with Mrs Fester.
Persecuting harmless crackpots on the Forum.

As you new members can see, much of what I do has come about by meeting some very good friends via this Forum.
So, join in.... you WILL have fun, you MIGHT learn something!

Who's next?

Title: Re: Say Hello here if you're a new member...
Post by: SDQ on February 11, 2012, 10:03:05 am
OK, I'll go next.

I'm Steve, a fortysomething who has lived his whole life in the three towns area. I was born in St Davids hospital Bangor, hence my second initial and was raised in Llandudno. My family moved up the Orme to the new housing estate on Llwynon Rd in 1969 when I was two and I lived there for many years.

I went to Lloyd St/Tudno Primary & John Bright Secondary schools & left as soon as I could because they AREN'T the best years of your life!

I then did a 4 yr engineering apprenticeship with Welsh Water but there was no job at the end of it so I found myself driving buses for Crosville Wales whilst I planned my future. Planning is obviously not something that comes naturally to me as I ended up doing it for 10 years before I had to eventually leave for my sanity! On a whim I applied for a job in the paper for something I knew nothing about or had any interest in but thankfully I took to like a duck to water and have been a Network Rail signaller for nearly 14 years. I think after 10 years of dealing with the public the solitude of being a signaller was a breath of fresh air. I've been a relief signaller for the last 7 years and work a number of locations so the variety stops the job getting too monotonous.

I've always liked my rock music and have been to many gigs throughout the North West over the years. I keep meaning to learn to play the guitar but never manage to keep it up very long which is quite embarrassing as my brother is a guitar teacher! I'll get around to it eventually. I'm also a bit of a technophile and like my gadgets & big TV's etc.. I was finally going to treat myself to an iPad2 last week but I hear rumours that the iPad3 will be announced next month so I'll hold out for it. I support Everton FC although I don't go to the games any more as it got too difficult with the shift patterns I work.

Hi, I’m Curly Cap and I’m currently changing my career after 20 years of self employment. I’m now Teacher training and so don’t spend as much time on the forum or “at home on the Orme” as I’d like to! (Hence my “No place like home” Avatar.)
My Dad’s from Wales, Mum’s from Lancashire and whenever we can, me and my family walk and climb everywhere ! (Hubby’s a Man U supporter but I prefer Rugby League – football goes on far too long !)

Hi I'm Sue, I have been a member  since the early days of the Llandudno Local, and am mainly interested in Social History and Genealogy.  I was born in Llandudno and most of my family still live in the area so I often visit from my home in Ruthin.  I have worked in the Health and Social Care Sector for 36 years in  several different roles, currently as a work based assessor and support worker.  I still love my job - which is just as well because I can’t afford to retire just yet!
My spare time is mainly spent with my ever increasing family – I have 3 children and 5 Grandchildren, the oldest of whom is 5. My interests are  Holidays (anywhere) , Short Breaks (anywhere), Sewing, Knitting and Reading. For exercise I like going for walks but only if the weather is good, and I can take some photos along the way.
As for football teams, it probably isn’t allowed but I support  both Liverpool and Manchester United,  I don’t follow the Rugby, mainly because I’m usually babysitting or working when the matches are on so that other people can go to the pub to watch!

Hia my name is Angie and I live and work in Conwy.  I love local history and walking but like Sue I prefer walking in warmer weather.  I joined the forum............can't remember when now but I love it.  I have met some really nice people on here and love it when we have the meet ups.  I have two children one lad of 14 who's in a band called Engage the Enemy and my eldest son is 22 he's a manager for River Island which is handy as he gets discount and I love their jeans  :D
I have always worked in the Pub industry from bar maid to lease holder and can't imagine doing anything else.  I enjoy meeting and talking with people from all walks of life which is probably the best part of the job, every day is different.  My Husband Gezzy is a very patient man bless him and I love him with all my heart.  I can't be doing with football but I do like watching rugby.  I can't think of anything else to write........so that's it folks.

I'm Jack, I was born in Colwyn Bay at the Nant-y-Glyn maternity hospital in 1974.  Growing up in the Bay I have a seen a steady decline in the town from a bustling tourist resort before the A55 to the place we see today.  I went to Conwy Road infants, then Pendorlan and Eirias High and apart from a couple of years backpacking and working my way around the world I have always lived in the Three Towns area.  I now live with the family in Llandudno and am self employed in the building trade.
I was drawn to the original forum because of the wealth of local postcards, pictures and information as I love local history and when I get the time I have been trying to upload some of my collection of old postcards to the forum for others to enjoy.

Hello to all from another Newbie,

About 3 years ago I moved with my family from Lancashire into the 3 Towns area and have not regretted it for a single moment.  If asked I always say that it will take a bl***y big crowbar to get me back out of here.

When I arrived I became a Scout leader locally as our two children were both involved.  Since then both have given up and I followed my lad into the Air Cadets.  As I'm a little old to be a cadet I've opted to work on the Civilian Committee helping to raise funds and the public profile of the squadron.

Almost as an offshoot of this, I've found myself as one of the main organisers of the Conwy Festival of Youth.  We will be taking over the Quayside in Conwy for a couple days during the Diamond Jubilee holiday weekend in June, with a host of youth centred groups, clubs and associations.

If you work with, or belong to, one of these groups and would like to join in with the fun - it could be a great opportunity to showcase your activities, recruit new members or helpers and raise funds.

If you would like to support the festival in some way we would love to hear from you as well.

You can find us at www.facebook.com/conwyfestivalofyouth (http://www.facebook.com/conwyfestivalofyouth) or you can email me directly.

Thanks,
               Stewart.

Hello I'm Tanya

I live miles away from llandudno and wished I lived nearer as I love grave digging at the Great Orme churchyard...What a lovely place to find ones dead and dusties...there's piles of them! The piles I'm particularly interested in are the Edwards clan, John Edwards (miner, then cab driver, who lived well into his nineties), Samuel (a bathing machine operator), Hugh Edwards, Robert Edwards, Grace Rawling and her clan, the Reeves family who ran the Cocoa House, The Timms family who ran various hotels, including the Wilton; Mary Williams (formally Shaw, formally Davies, formally Reeves), who ran the Cambridge restaurant and of course, one has to mention the smattering of Joneses, Robertses and Williamses families! There...I've totally bored everyone to an early grave!  :D

Hello all,
My name is Chris and I live in Cambridgeshire.  My family moved to Llandudno from Coedpoeth nr Wrexham in 1960, when I was six.  My father was a member of the Gwynedd Constabulary as it was known back then and we lived in Trinity Avenue.  I went to school in Lloyd Street and then John Bright's Grammar School before we moved to Dolgellau in 1966.  We returned to the area to live in Colwyn Bay in 1972 and I finished my schooling in Eirias High School and joined the Army in 1973.
I found this site after Googling for information on the Coast Artillery School, having used the West Shore gunsites as a playground when I was a kid.
As a former artilleryman, I have a "professional" interest in the site of the old School!

Welcome, Chris.

I went to John Bright in 1961 which was probably a few years before you.

However, you may remember the names of a few of these lads from Lloyd Street school who were runners-up in the Hendre Cup in 1967

Thanks Bri,
I'd already left Llandudno by that stage and was living in Dolgellau...
I've seen a few names that I recognise bandied around on here though!  Ted yr Ogof and his son Johnny, Robin Holden the lifeboat coxwain who was in my class at Lloyd St...
Cheers,
Chris

This is a place for new Members to just post a quick message to say hello and tell us a little bit about themselves.

Hi, I work on the Daily Post. I'd like to reflect the interesting people/events in our wonderful three towns. I'll try to keep tabs on what goes on, on here. Or feel free to email me at davidpowell@dailypost.co.uk and I can see if I can help you.

I also have a Facebook page called 'Daily Post Conwy', if anyone's interested.

Post by: Colin Hugh Abbott on March 29, 2012, 03:44:02 am
Greetings to one and all, from Colin Hugh Abbott, in wonderful Western Australia!  I last saw Llandudno about fifty years ago!  I went to Craig-y-Don Primary School during the early 1950s (Headmaster, Mr Ellis). Mr Ellis used to frighten me, but I'm sure he was a lovely man really.  I attended John Bright Grammar School in the second half of the fifties (Headmaster, Mr Reece).  I spent several years, back and forth, during the sixties, in Northern Ireland. That was a very interesting experience! Then, in 1969, I emigrated to Australia. In fact, I was a veritable "ten pound Pom". Great value! Never looked back!  I sailed to Australia in the Belfast-built SS Canberra (which subsequently became a troop ship during the Falklands War). It was a wonderful ship, but it was eventually broken up for scrap.  I am married, and have three adult sons. Cheers!

Hi,

My name is Jim, just found this site and it is fantastic.
I was born in Oxford rd. and lived in Wydvydd Cottage and went to Great Orme school until about 1957, then moved to Lloyd St and lived in Maesdu Avenue (new flats then). In 1961 moved to Bridge Road and went to John Bright (managed to stay in bottom stream for 5 years).
Started to play golf in 63, taught by Sid Collins at North Wales, moved away in 72 working all over UK. Came back regulaly to see Mam & Dad (who ran The Rest and Be Thankful for 30 years) until they died recently (not been back for 2 years).
still a golf nut and mad Welsh rugby supporter.

Hiya Jim, welcome to the forum. I'm a bit of a golf/rugby nut myself. We actually have a member here who owns a golf course. If we get enough interest maybe he'll host a forum championship.

Hiya Jim, welcome to the forum. I'm a bit of a golf/rugby nut myself. We actually have a member here who owns a golf course. If we get enough interest maybe he'll host a forum championship.

Now there's a thought!

Post by: Michael on March 31, 2012, 03:24:37 pm
A forum golf championship. John Oddy says "that's a thought."
But first, I'd better point out its only a Pitch and Putt----no drivers.
Secondly, I've. Got no experience of running championships. So maybe a visit to Wikipedia might be called for. Or even better a visit to John Oddy to pick his brains.
But, apart from these snags, it sounds a very god idea to me and I would do all I can to make it go o.k.  Mike
Title: Re: Say Hello here if you're a new member...
Post by: John Oddy on March 31, 2012, 06:45:08 pm
Mike,
The fact that it is a pitch and putt course is irrelevant, it’ll be a game of fun no matter what size the course is.
As for the organising of it, I propose we leave that up to Ian and Dave as it will be them putting up the mega first prize.
A morning/afternoon/day of golf, light refreshment and the chance to put faces to names would only strengthen the forum and be a great way of introduction.....over to Ian and Dave!!!

LOL...Mick O'Regan was the best man at my wedding.....no wonder it never lasted!
If you were dealing with my subs I was probably the most polite person that ever entered the Roundhouse....I never upset those that held the purse strings!
We'll have to get together and talk about old times.....another reason for the forum having a get-together.

As Snowcap correctly points out, Fester would indeed like to join in.  :golf:

However, it may be demoralising for everyone else as I am fantastic at Golf, as I am at everything else in the world.

So, if I wasn't so keen to win the 3ft high solid gold trophy (donated by Dave and Ian), I would probably step aside.

A beer or eight may well be involved afterwards?  Z** Z** Z**

John, sounds like a good idea. I haven't been to a forum get together yet.

I remember Thurs & Fri mornings when Cashiers opened up at 7.30am the queue would stretch from the office door almost to the Roundhouse door. Everyone wanting their wages and subs before the vans left and everyone very polite LOL.

Hi Karen,

I think Snakecorp might be around somewhere...  ;)  :P

The old Llandudno Local message board suffered quite a few problems, including all the posts disappearing once or twice. Craig went off to pastures new. Ian and myself decided to set up this Forum to replace it and also expanded it a little to include Colwyn Bay and Conwy as well.

Hi Folks,
I,m a "Conway lad", raised in the prefabs on the Morfa and after 15 years in the South of England returned to live in Llandudno.  I went to Maelwyn school (because my granddad was the caretaker and lived around the corner) and later went to John Bright Grammar School. (Yep - an old codger).
I now live in Zurgena, Almería, happily retired and stumbled across this forum after joining the "You know you're from Llandudno if..." group on Facebook. Please feel free to visit me there: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1325204689&sk=info (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1325204689&sk=info) or my photos on: http://s725.photobucket.com/profile/bilkobailey. We now visit North Wales every year as the parents get older.  Maybe our paths will cross!
God Bless
Steve

Hello Folks
I stumbled across your site by accident (more of that later)  I live in Birkenvegas and as a small boy in the mid fifties was taken to Llandudno for the annual holiday.

It took about 3 weeks to get there in the Morris Minor now it's an hour on the train. I remember sand, sea and fun. I remember an age when children could play out and their parents wouldn't worry

I remember falling into the model yacht pool. A bloke pulled me out ,wrapped me in a blanket and found my Dad. Nowadays he'd worry about being sued.

We didn't have cable cars. We didn't miss them because we didn't know about them.

Anyway, enough rambling. I found your site while trying to find out about the Regent Court hotel. It was on the front and I'd imagine that by now has changed it's name. The reason I was looking was because it invokes happy memories.

Rock on Llandudno

The Regent Court Hotel was originally 5 Mostyn Crescent on the parade.  It first merged with No 4 and/or No 6 but used the same name. Eventually it was absorbed into the Marine Hotel, I guess about 20 years ago.

Hi, I'm Deb. I've been married to Phil for 32 years and work as a Police Sergeant in Greater Manchester. Phil retired from the Police after 30 years service 5 years ago and our plan is to move to Llandudno as soon as our house is sold.
We have been visiting Llandudno for many years and we just love the area, especially Angel Bay.
The commute to work will be a long one but I think it will be worth the extra miles - I've only got 2 more years left at work, and I think the benefits of living by the coast will outweigh the travel.
It feels like quite a big step for us as we don't know a soul in the area but I'm sure that will change when we become residents and get chatting to fellow dog walkers.

Hi
I'm Chris , 51, based in Liverpool, I'm a sound dubbing mixer on a Mersey-based TV soap, supposedly filmed in Chester. My interests are largely genealogical, and I came across this forum after meeting another member over on a family history research site.
My wife's JONES family hail from Llandudno, and some still even live in the area, down by the beach at Rhos.
Love the area very much and have many happy childhood memories of great times spent on holiday here. I also have family down the road in Caernarvon, ( cousin Geraint is a well known Welsh poet and singer).
So if anyone is out with a camera and passing by Bron Y Berllan in Llandudno (family residence in 1911 census) or the Penn-y-frith cottages on the Orme (1901 census) I wouldn't mind a cheeky photo or two please,  just to try and jog one or two memories in the family, thanks!

Hi, I have lived in Llandudno Junction all my life (1954 vintage, Bangor St David's !) . Now working in the rail industry & covering an area including North Wales & Stafford to Carlisle. Not surprisingly I have an interest in travel , driving, DIY, aviation, gardening , walking , cycling & lots of other things. Learning more about our local area is always good & it is good to read input from others willing to share their histories & local information.

Hi All,

Found this forum while looking for a site for local historical interests. I've been registered for a few weeks but not got round to posting so a brief biog. is as follows.

I was born in Llandudno and have lived, schooled and worked all my life in the area (now Colwyn Bay) and I work in an admin. role within our local police force.

I've been browsing the site and like the of it and especially the old photos of the area.

Hello folks, my name is Tosh, my dad used to call me that when I was little and when I looked up from the keyboard of my laptop it said Toshiba so I thought there we go,a nickname, so just call me Tosh for short.
I was born in Stoke on Trent and moved here 10 years ago to semi retire and ended up working solidly for the 8 years, I am now properly retired.
I have done my bit and a bit more for the community and still do a bit if I get the chance.
I had my first holiday here at deganwy about 1953 when Randolph Turpin first bought the Summit complex.

An old friend sent me a link regarding vintage aerial photos today so I browsed around and came up with these fascinating pics of North Wales.
http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/image/wpw040142?search=conwy&ref=1 (http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/image/wpw040142?search=conwy&ref=1)
These were found within a couple of minutes so a little more mooching around could produce even more.
Have a look and see what you think.

 D) What wonderful old photos of an old Llandudno Tosh. The streets look like they were when I was a kid. Must have been taken from a Sopwith Camel! Llandudno foolball ground; Jackson's fields; a naked Conwy Road; an almost naked Queens Road going straight up to join Conwy Road; the Oval cricket ground surrounded by empty fields and St Serial's Road backing onto empty fields and best of all, very few motors.  $good$ Cheers.

Hello

I am new to the forum, and although I live miles away, My mother and her family are from Old Colwyn, a long time ago now they moved to Cheshire.  Llandudno, Conwy and Old Colwyn have all played a massive part in my life, and Llandudno really is my favourite place, somewhere I come when I need cheering up, I feel relaxed and comfortable in Llandudno.

We used to Holiday there when I was younger and have great days out, the one I allways remember was the one in 1993 (I think, please correct if I am wrong), we had parked on the front down by Bodofon Fields, I had been pestering my mum and dad for me to go for a paddle in the sea, being somewhat younger then.  We were in town when the most horrific thunderstorm started, we ended up going back into some of the many corner toy shops in town, and finally one gave us some black bin bags to make some make do coats from, upon running back to the car, at the other end of the Prom, I got my paddle I had been asking for, I remember water pouring up out of the drains etc.  This is now one of my earlier memories.

More recently, I try to come to Llandudno several times a year, and the yearly trip is for the victorian fair, I normally help look after a steam engine during the day, and the Charabanc that leads the parade, and then I ride a Penny Farthing of an early evening.

I may just one day live in Llandudno, that would be really nice!

Anyway it is late and I have a big Job on tomorow, so will sign off, but look forward to lots of interesting threads on here, and hope being a "foreigner", not living in the towns, I am still Welcome to take part in the forum?

Best Regards

Edwin

Hello 3 Towns!  I was given details of this site by a very helpful chap in a shop Mostyn Street yesterday.  I had a very old photograph of what used to be my grandfather's family business which showed the frontage of their shop with a 'charabang' in front carrying what I think were their staff who were ready for their annual day out. The business's name was J. Roberts and they were drapers, furriers, milliners and the shop covered what is actually 4 shops now, with the Bengal Dynasty over the top :)  At first this guy thought I was mistaken but when he took a closer look and saw the detail of the canopy and the upstairs windows he agreed that it was.  I have another photo of the family home which was in St Mary's Rd and the house was named "Coolbawn" but having walked the length of the road we can't find one which still has that name but then again, this was a long time ago... My mum was born in Llandudno and her father's name was Gwilym Roberts but her parents separated when she was just 5 and her mother took her back to her home city of Norwich where she grew up.  I have photos but not much information as unfortunately my mum didn't like to talk about her childhood - what a shame :(
Still, we ended up growing up in Lancashire so not so far away from Llandudno after all and I've visited the town for many years as I love it.  It's only in recent years that my brothers and sister and myself have really started to wonder if we could find out more about our Welsh roots.  It's a long shot as it's going back a long time - my eldest brother is 62! but maybe posting on here might help us find out more.

Hello MPM, welcome to the Forum.

In the 1929 Street Directory the listing for "Coolbawn" is number 31 St Mary's Road, Mrs E Roberts, Apartments.

The Shop you mention is listed  in the Trade section under "Milliners" -   J. Roberts  Cheltenham House, Mostyn Street, 1 North Parade,

The alphabetical listing is Roberts, J. milliner, Cheltenham House Mostyn St. res Cheltenham House, 1 North parade, Promenade. Hope this helps! I can't find a listing for a Gwilym Roberts, but there are several G.Roberts listed at various addresses.

(My great uncle was a Gwilym Roberts  - he lived in Caroline Road in later years, but as far as I know he  had no connection with the above business,)

Thanks for the welcome and information Fest & suepp.  What a great start!  I have managed to research a lot of my Norfolk ancestry but this is my first real foray into the Llandudno connection although it has always fascinated me.  There are many gaps but luckily I have kept hold of quite a few photos and some memorabilia concerning Llewellyn Roberts who became quite famous as the Chief Engineer on the Queen Mary and there was a presentation to him acknowledge his achievement and the programme calls him "A Llandudno Townsman" but I'm not sure what relationship he was to my grandfather.  My mother attended the presentation ceremony on a summer visit to stay with her grandparents, I assume at Coolbawn, hence the programme I have now.  I greatly appreciate this information suepp and will pass it on to my brothers and sister, and I feel this site will help us enormously in our search.  I'll know to look at no 31 St Mary's Rd next time :) I am just guessing they lived there as I have a photograph with the address written on the back but maybe it wasn't where my grandparents lived after all?

The coast and mountains are so beautiful (I guess I'm preaching to the converted here !). Llandudno looked so well cared for, unlike our local patch, Bridlington, which has been allowed to run down.
Can't wait to wake up to all that beauty every morning !

Festario... because Fester was not available as a name.

We have probably not seen each other on ADVFN, as I am invested in one fantastic online gaming company, (Thanks to DaveR) ... and some appalling Oil and Gas stocks.... (all my own work, sadly)

DaveR has suggested that we have a thread on here about stocks and shares... maybe a good idea?

Im not sure what the legal implications would be, anything involving investments takes you into FSA territory.

$good$ Hi everyone, Well I don't know if there are any original members on here but i was a member of the old forum a few years ago when I was presenting on Tudno F.M., I thought it would be good to let everyone know what i have been doing over the past few years since my last visit to the forum. I left the radio station to embark on a foundation degree in Digital Media and Television Production, which i passed with Merit, I then went to Bangor University to do my B.A Media degree, currently in my last year. I have opened my production company www.chubbybuddhaproductions.co.uk (http://www.chubbybuddhaproductions.co.uk) creating promotional videos for local businesses, well im trying anyway.
Well thats pretty much brought me back to the present day, i have missed a few bits inbetween but then this would turn into a dissertation and not an introduction lol.
Im off to have a nosey round the forum now but i hope to speak to some of you soon and well done on keeping the forum active, its an invaluable service to the local community.
all the very best Andrew Harris

Hello everybody,

I just stumbled upon this website whilst I was checking to see if there was anything new surfacing about the L&CBER Ltd. (I am currently developing the definitive history of it between 1890 and its final meeting and wind up in 1966).

Having had a lifelong affection for Llandudno and its environs it was from my pram in the front garden of 75 Mostyn Avenue watching the trams go into and out from the fields at Nant-y-Gamar Road that skewed my mind in the direction of a life-long interest in trams. That was in May 1943. No logical explanation for it but that was the moment the dye was cast - 8 months old! I wonder how many of you can pinpoint the moment when you were hooked on your own interest or hobby.

In 1979 I met Stuart Rivers and his family and found that we shared mutual interests in areas other than trams. Like many people in the Llandudno-Colwyn Bay-Conwy triangle I was profoundly shocked by his sudden death in May this year. On a personal note I lost a loyal and true friend. Your area lost more than that - the Llandudno Advertiser got it about right when it referred to him as "The Town Protector". May the district find someone of equal stature and passion to keep a watchful eye on what is going on in the area as a whole.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Allister, we are moving to Wales next year, possibly Colwyn Bay. Found the forum while researching, quite interesting to see it speak of two more towns. Here to learn more about the community, as I intend to look well-aware for my fiance when visiting in the early spring.

We both currently get to travel freqently due our work, we met in London, now managing brand events in various locations across EU, and as she is from Wales, we are attempting to have a year or two settled closer to her family. We enjoy photography, walks, relaxing dining, regular getaways and the idea that one can relocate if one so!

That's pretty much it for now, enjoy the weekend!

I know lots of Llandudno boys joined not only the navy but the forces in general past and present and I believe we have a proud heritage. There are lots of people I would like to ask about, but not sure if I can do it on this forum?J

Hello

From Leeds originally I took early retirement at 50 (due to health issues) and decided to move to the seaside/countryside. My choices were between Seaford (East Sussex) Whitby (North Yorks) and Llandudno (all good walking areas, my main pastime). Unable to choose I decided to spend a few months in each before deciding on one.

I spent a year in and around Seaford, two months in Whitby (other than the walking that was a little disappointing and is now out of the equation) and as of April 20th I've been in Llandudno (well Penrhyn Bay to be precise).

Must be said (and I say this with sincerity, it’s not a facile attempt to win favour with the forum) Llandudno has been the friendliest and most welcoming this far. I’m hoping to spend the summer here at least before I make my final choice.

This forum has been a happy discovery and a very useful source of local knowledge.

Regards

BUFF

Hello Ian

Thanks for the welcome  :)

I'm taking a look at the V.E tomorrow, looking forward to it. Very keen on volunteering myself due to some degree of disability I am limited to what I can do but I've already been in touch with: http://cvsc.org.uk/ (http://cvsc.org.uk/) to see what's available in the area.

Early days but really enjoying myself thus far, I'm two mins away from the Little Orme/Angel Bay here utter joy for a keen walker.

Do have some issues with my accommodation but I hope to find somewhere more suitable in the coming weeks.

Hello Fester

Thanks for the welcome.

Truth be told I was born in Carlton a tiny farming village that was nearer Wakefield than Leeds (but no one willingly admits to coming from 'Wakey' though do they?) But I spent most of the last 30 years in Leeds.

One of the things I miss most from Yorkshire is the lovely Salts's Mill up the road from Bradford in Saltaire, rarely a month went by without a visit there.

I agree with your opinion of Whitby, I'd exhausted it's potential within the first month. The best thing was the Whitby to Robin Hoods Bay walk, but the 'town' (more like big village) seems to be little more than tea rooms, chip shops, charity shops and PUBS (way too many for such a small place). Bit 'lively' on a weekend too with Stag/Hen do's from the North East.

Had a nice day here today, took a walk to Colwyn Bay and back. I'm doing Conwy tomorrow weather permitting. I have a list of about twenty walks I intend doing (list is increasing all the time) the walking here is amazing I'm in my element.

Need to get better accommodation though (very 'laddish' place I'm in at the moment) so if you know anyone nice who is after a lodger please let me know.

Regards

BUFF

Went home to Liverpool, googled it and this forum popped up! Joined, lurked for a while and now me and Paula are back here for the airshow in The Arvon, thought I'd say hello. Lovin that fella with the monkey by the way! Dave R, boss photos mate, paula is convinced that's me and her on the pier in the rain. She wants to buy a copy mate if that's possible and get it framed. Hope we might meet a couple of you lot over the weekend. Nice one, Alan and Paula. X

It varies.  This time last year we had 104 online. When the weather's fine, though, folk are often out and about, not sitting in front of computers.

I've been looking at your interesting and informative site for some time now and really feel it's time I should join.

My family owned a caravan on the old Morfa Conwy site from the late 1950's until the mid 1980's and I spent all of my childhood/teenage holidays there. I have such vivid memories of that time of both the site and the surrounding area. I would love to share some of these with like minded folk.

Indeed ThaiThyme, Welcome.

Tell us more of these wondrous, far-off lands.

Is it Polynesia?  Micronesia?   Is Thai Thyme the name of the Restaurant?

Hello, my name is Sylvia, I live in Canada but went to Colwyn Bay Grammar School 1966.  My parents owned the old Tudor Cafe in Rhos-on-Sea and we lived above it.  I remember many of the shops on Penrhyn Avenue, Pryce's Grocery, Pierce's butcher's shop next door to us, the old Cinema across the street, Garstang's yard across the street.  The chippy around the corner, the fruit and veg shop next to it.  I have lived in Canada for the last 40 years but I have always felt that Wales was my true home and I go back and visit every 2 or 3 years.  How things have changed!

Hello,I am interested in the history of the Great Orme  and Llandudno.I hope to trace my ancestors who lived in the area.

Also I would like to know more about the Isolation Hospital in 1930.I found the site through "Old Llandudno".

Hello Kaye, welcome to the Three Towns Forum.     There are loads of photos on here of the old Llandudno and I hope you enjoy looking at them.
If you want to know anything about your ancestors please post the details under the heading Genealogy and Research and someone may be able to help you.
There was an isolation hospital in Maesdu Road Llandudno and we later called it the Annexe but there may have been one at the Sarah Nicol Memorial Hospital in Trinity Square which was opened in 1904  ( later to become the Llandudno Youth Centre )

You are welcome Kaye,    I noticed that you've had a look at Genealogy and Research today and if you click on "New topic" then  on "Subject" you can put your own title in.
Then put down what you are looking for and hopefully we can help you in your search.
