The new labels are a result of the 'Windsor Framework'
From October 1 this year, many of our favourite food products will have new labels on them. You might have already seen them in some supermarkets, and soon they will be everywhere.
But what are these labels, and why are they connected to the European Union? After Britain left the EU in 2020, trading between Northern Ireland (NI) and the UK became more difficult and expensive, thanks to the economic border between them, reported NottinghamshireLive.
Differing food regulations and laws between UK and EU meant that products moving between them needed additional border checks and paperwork, which proved costly for exporters and importers. Rebecca Kaya, who works as a Product Information Senior Advisor at Ashbury, explains why the new labels are being introduced.
Why do we need ?Not for EU? labels?
The 'Not for EU' labels are a consequence of the 'Windsor Framework,' an accord between the UK government and the EU. This framework, formed to navigate the intricacies of post-Brexit trade, has a pivotal role in the emergence of these new labels.
