I know b****r all about cars, but I like racing green ones!
Hang that picture in The Tate Gallery, name it something to do with 'Retro' and it would comfortably make £5 million.
$good$ "My first car was a 1936ish Standard Flying 20 with a 2.6 litre, 6 cylinder, side valve engine. A bit of a poor investment I soon discovered!"
I wholeheartedly disagree. Had one the successors of those (1948 Standard 14 - same body, style and side valve engine) and it ticked over like a sewing machine and was brilliantly comfortable and reliable (providing you looked after it). Bought it for £10 from a car sharp in Newport Shropshire in 1964. Set about sanding it down to repaint it but soon discovered the original finish was like black stove enamel.
My first vehicle was a 1936 10 cwt Morris van. Bought, in 1959, for another £10 from a friend Ernie Pierce (stage name Prince Igor - rock group, The Overlanders) who worked in a small garage at the back of the Highbury Ground (then Arsenal). I had no licence then but taught myself to drive around the alleys at the back of Holloway Road. The problem here was that this van had the accelerator pedal in the middle and the brake pedal on the right. Could explain why I'm a danger to road users today!!!! L0L
This was the first car I owned outright, I paid £150.00 for it in 1976. I had to part with it when the subframe went about two years later , I loved that car, can't find the original photo, my daughter borrowed it for an art project for her A levels, here's the finished painting, the one on the right is the correct colour.

As for the Morris, my Brother had the 8 Tourer with a central clutch pedal and it was on that I learnt to "heel and toe". Often wish they still arranged the pedals that way! _))*
I'll soon be buying a 1967 Triumph Spitfire, we've been without a classic car for too long now :(
We've seen it this morning and loved it ^*^0
It's a KTM X-Bow
The KTM X-Bow (pronounced "crossbow") is an ultra-light sports car for road and race use, produced by Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM. It is the first car in their product range. It was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 2008.
On Top Gear BBC 2 tonight they are featuring 3 cars. The KTM X-Bow, a Morgan 3 wheeler and a Caterham R500 so I've taped the programme to see how the cars perform.
Good Luck mate---- hope you have a long pocket !!! ;D
Wow, that's got to be expensive to run. How much to fill up the tank?
I had to let my Daimler 4 Ltr. go, as I was only getting 9 miles per Gal. around town, but it was lovely to drive, I still miss it. :(
I find that hard to believe. :o &shake& A Range Rover Sport 3.0 does between 30-33mpg. I suspect you'd get between 20-25mpg at best out of the Jag, and that's with the wind behind you and Mrs ME pushing... :laugh:Wow, that's got to be expensive to run. How much to fill up the tank?
Not that bad, much better than say, a Range Rover ;)
You didn't think that was really my car, did you?! The font on the number plate would be illegal, to start with.

The odd looking black Land Rover on the left in the first pic is a model known as the '101 Forward Control', originally developed for Army use.Originally powered by the Rover 3 1/2 litre V8 engine!
Don't tell ME or he'll be straight over.
I saw the 1076, but could not make out the letters. With a UK reg number I could identify it.I was thinking it was I0764?
It looks right to me and pre war, I thinking now it could be German possibly, shame you didn't take a picture of the blue badge on the radiator grill, tax discs can help too!
Not an expert, but think its a RR Phantom Drophead Coupe. ;D
Sometimes called a Roadster and probably from 1930's. ZXZ
How about Armstrong Siddeley.
It's only half the height as well.
Is it on skids?
Isn't the Morgan the Plus 8? $good$

Who remembers the Wolsley Hornet and it's twin the Riley Elf?Now you mention it, you can see the Mini resemblance very clearly. $good$
The Riley Elf and Wolsley Hornet were upmarket versions of Sir Alexander Issigonis masterpiece, the Mini. The distinctive grille was the standout feature, while the tail received its own makeover, which included extending the length so that the car looked much more like a typical saloon.
One of my favourites was a 'Bradford Jowett', which had been converted into 'Shooting Brake' by a previous owner, who used it to go fishing at the w/e. He used to sleep in the back, as the seats folded to make a bed. It even had curtains on the windows. ^*^0
my brother had the Riley pathfinder what a car
Didn't the little Wolsley badge on the radiator light up when the side lights came on?
I've always been a gadget man. L0 ;D
The Hillman Imp
I'm sure lots of us remember the old Wolseley Police cars, with the very loud outside bell, and of course, the Citroen 2 CV! :D
I noticed in the film clips the gaping holes where the starting handle went! When did starting handles become extinct?
;D
I had a 71 Range Rover 3.5 lt V8, with a starting handle, also a 79 Citroen 2CV with a handle! Plus many older ones!
Back in 1972 we had a Bedford Beagle van which was Vauxhall Viva based.
Extremely! I remember trying to turn it over, but I never tried to start it! However once it would not start and I was away from home so called the AA out, looked like a faulty starter motor . The AA man did start it using the handle! :o. After he had gone I remembered a previous owner had fitted a hidden security switch near the driver's feet, I must have accidentally switched it when getting out! It isolated the starter motor......

I remember these also. Run into something at speed and you would break both your feet, and probably your legs too.
How about a bit of quality now? Does anyone remember the Crossley?
What? Aren't they like Zillions of pounds or something? :oGVC shall provide....
The camera seems to be so close to the car and one would normally take a full three quarter view, so I'm just a little bit suspicious! ;D
Also see my post on local businesses.
Tell us more about the Bugatti, ME.
We weren't fooled for a minute, we saw through it straight away, we weren't in the least bit jealous.
A very nice Sunbeam Alpine!
Liked the S800 although not seen one for years they were lovely little car
A Classic Honda S800 for restoration! :DSlight front end damage, most of which should polish out
Would probably take a lot of welding! Or a new chassis, plus whatever caused it to go out of use in the first place. Bulkhead probably needs much repair too!
No, nor Derby.
I think it was more down south.
Did you watch 'Inside Rolls-Royce' on Channel 4 last Thursday evening?
If not, I recommend watching it on 4 ON DEMAND.

Much better with the usual petrol engine and mechanical transmission. I expect that the manufacturers are trying to lower their emissions by bringing out these over complicated hybrids!

My iPad is about 2 1/2 years old, so will it improve? Or should I somehow revert to ios7?
It won't improve, unless you change some things. 'Battery doctor' will speed it up, however, and eliminating stuff you don't need will have the same effect.

Now, let's see about designing a course around Llandudno - there are quite a few local youngsters who (think they) can drive like that!!!
A reminder that...you will no longer get a paper disc when you tax your car from today. The tax disc, which was introduced in 1921, is now no longer needed, with Police able to rely on automatic number plate recognition cameras to enforce.
Funny you should post that as I will soon be the proud owner of this Reliant 3 wheeler!
OK so we do not now have to display a tax disc.
So a few (or many) more people will clone the plate of a car that is taxed and insured, or maybe own two identical cars which they can put the same plates on, one taxed one not. ;D
What about incorrectly spaced letters and numbers or non regulation type face? The ANPR camera can't register their offence. :D

Back to the subject of cars it is like a huge motor show over there with some very special cars, we love seeing them rolling up at the hotels of an evening.
Which one? You can have red or red!
Yes! I fancy all ten of them! 😃 we just bought this Focus CC2 with electric / hydraulic folding roof, built by Pininfarina no less! Great to drive in the recent sunny weather! :DHow many cars have you got now, ME?!
You can get problems with these roofs, but we could be lucky! After the medical problems of the last 12 months we just think, go for it! 😎
We had a great day out on Sunday when we took our classic Jaguar to Mike Brewer's garage in Sheffield, Mike was there with Edd China, they both make the TV show Wheeler Dealers. Having spent a load of money replacing things on my last car (of Spanish manufacturer but from the VAG stable) I decided to spend on a new car instead. Decided what I wanted and asked a number of owners what they thought - even it meant approaching someone completely unknown to me - not one bad word about the make/model I had my eyes on.
There is a local dealer, so I paid them a visit earlier this year. Treated extremely well, got the price I wanted on part-exchange, tried out both diesel and petrol versions, and made my decision. Took a few days to find the exact spec I was after, car was handed over with 9 miles on the clock and a full tank of fuel. I don't suppose I'm allowed to say which dealer but the car is built in the UK and the dealer is in Llandudno.
Best advice I can give is to draw up a short list and speak to owners! Don't go on reviews - Jermy Clarkson is quite scathing about the car I've bought, yet they were raced successfully in the British Championship last year!!!
I don't suppose I'm allowed to say which dealer but the car is built in the UK and the dealer is in Llandudno.

Rallying cost talks stall with Natural Resources Wales.
Concerns have been raised about rallying in Wales' forests as the sport's governing body said new costs sought by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) would be "unworkable".
The Motor Sports Association (MSA) has agreed deals in England and Scotland but talks are continuing in Wales.
NRW said it had to recover its costs.
Former British rallying champion Gwyndaf Evans said he was concerned racing could become "prohibitively expensive" in Wales.
"If these increases happen... there's a danger that rallying may have to stop in Wales," he said.
"And that would be a tragic loss to all the competitors but also all the suppliers throughout the sport and to tourism in Wales."

Thanks for the photographs hollins, it really is as good as it looks.
Apparently, there have been 2,000 pre-ordered in the UK, 10,000 world-wide. We were very lucky and just fortunate to be in the right place at the right time to get a test drive. There were people waiting for a test drive, some of whom had ordered one before having a test drive! Not something that I'd be prepared to do. The dealer had test drives arranged every 30 minutes for the next 10 days.....!
We saw this Lotus 7 parked in Porthmadog High Street yesterday. It looked in immaculate condition
LJI plates would be followed by 4 numbers - they're originally from Northern Ireland and as you say Llew Jones coaches have quite a few of them! ... this car is a 16-plate vehicle, would be a London registration, but not sure what the make is - Westfield, Caterham, Locost, there are many variations of what was once a Lotus 7.
Sounds like an expensive con Steve, the tyres just don't last anymore. I had a Ford Capri in the early 1970's and did 70,000 miles in it before selling it with the original tyres still in good condition.I dont think its a total con , the mechanic mentioned above has worked for Mercedes for over 20 years and was quite adamant about his advjce , ........although it might be different if you were on the Autoban.
I did rotate the tyres on a regular basis but they still had a good tread on them when I sold the car.
I am in the process of selling an old classic SL500 Mercedes in tip top condition, and was very surprised when it was pointed out to me, that the tyres were out of date, ( 6 year life span ? )considering they only had approx 1000 miles since fitted at a cost of 1000 pounds ......... this was not a ploy to reduce the price, as his mechanic had done the inspection and all was agreed.
No Steve. I had a 1957 Minor 1000 with four doors, and a good little motor it was too. Thanks B. Looking at it again, it seems normal now, probably a senior moment on my part, it was my first car, the split windscreen version, I also seem to remember it was older than me........ &shake&
Nice photos H. It looks a bit unusual, is it because of the 4 doors, I always think of them as 2door cars, maybe M E can clarify.
Thanks M E, I also remember the flip up indicators , and hand signals, and an engine I could service myself, I think I have had bigger lawn mower engines since, ah the good old daysNice photos H. Very nice car! Available as 2 door, 4 door, van, pick up, Traveller (with the lovely woodwork) and a convertible version too!
Fame at last !! That's Archie, my OH 's pride and joy. He has had him for about 4 years and .is seen around the area, but only on fine days. Apparently he was talking to some gentlemen yesterday who translated Morris Minor into Welsh for him. Hugo--- if it was you, can you spell it for him please?
Just for the record he ( Archie) is a 1969 model thus is 48.
I learned to drive in a black model in 1966 !
Just wondering if anyone's viewed the above link? It's really amusing...Its a great video Ian, ...............But Hugo posted in June.

Warning to people who might feel inclined to buy a brown coloured car, that seem to be becoming popular at the moment. I bought a brown car in the 70s, after a few weeks I realised I had purchased a turd on wheels, a very unpleasant feeling!
Amazing car!
Not cars but trailers. Never ceases to amaze us how many Ifor Williams trailers we see abroad.
They must have an excellent export business.
The electric car market is really taking off. Although it will be great for anyone who drives fewer than 80 miles per day, for those living further away battery technology still lags behind.
“When I started work (1965) and not old enough to drive I cycled from my home (Conway Cottage, next to the Bodnant Welsh Food Centre entrance) UP Bodnant Hill to Ffrith-y-Foel, where I got a lift to Colwyn Bay with the daughter of the family who lived there ... I cannot remember her name now, but the car was an Austin A35!”but figuring if it has a place, it’s probably better in cars than in an ancestry thread...
Fine, good idea but.... the technology isn't good enough and probably won't be in time for implementation.
If the proposed technology relies on recognising signs, one kid with a paint brush could create havoc. If it is GPS based, our satnav shows speed limits and is usually accurate, but sometimes throws a wobbly as it passes under bridges or goes along side a minor road on a motorway. (this of course relies on Mr Trump not turing off or 'fuzzing', the GPS signals as they have been known to do in times of national emergency.
Imagine 1: doing 70 and passing under a 30 mph road.... car slams on the the brakes to stay legal, and a multiple pile up ensues.
Imagine 2: 3 lane motorway with artic in lane 1 doing 55.5mph, 3 artics in lane 2 doing 56mph and little you in lane 3 doing 70 mph, no acceleration available to get past quickly to clear the lane for the blue flashing lights behind you.
Feel free to let your imagination add further scenarios.
As the limiter will be computer controlled there will be an industry in hacking to remove the limiter. Recent air crashes seem to show that computer control isn't all it should be.
Ha! Ha! Mine is the next white one - the reg'n gives it away. The Mitsubishi is Dave Paveley's rally car, definitely a boy racer! The black Subaru is his daughter Jade's (she is current Welsh Junior Rally Champion). The "mallard green" Escort Cosworth is for sale if you have some spare cash!
I was told by more than one person that the Noble is based on a Ford Mondeo - the rear lights are from a Mondeo!
I have recently seen a Ford Mustang around here in those colours - possible?
Completely different but when my wife and I went round the Orme last Saturday we saw two Austin 7's. We were at Brenig today and there were three of them, and not the same two we saw before, although the driver of oen did say they;d been roudn the Orme last weekend. The ones today had Hereford Austin 7 Club badges on them.
I've just looked at the Formula 1 cars again and it wasn't like those cars but more like the cars driven in the Le Mans Race. Perhaps I'll never find out what it was but it was one super motor
I always think there's a certain irony with these top sports car manufacturers. By the time most folk have enough money to buy and run one, they often can't get into it.
Hugo ... the "black beast of a car" is a Nissan GT-R ... fairly quick!
Great photos Hugo. Looks better weather down there than up here.
This one looks a bit tricky to access as well.
Interestingly, it's the low mileage runs where the EVs come into their own. Even PHEVs have around 35 miles per charge so they're pretty much perfect for local use.Ian, Even this has surprised me........... mileage since July 2013................. 4.072 this and the fact it has been garaged, is another reason why I have not been to the car showrooms. :-\
Hi
I really think it would be a good idea if you explained which car you decided upon and what type of journeys you undertake. The reason for this is that(up until now) as a confirmed petrol / diesel head I'm conscious that electric vehicles are the future but cannot really understand which type to go for. The frequency and availability of charging stations is an issue as we do long journeys to see family. Would you mind giving advice on the forum or would you pm me?
Thanks for your consideration as I'm sure others are bewildered by this major change....I see car mags etc devoting more and more pages to EVs but I think users views are more pertinent...at least to me anyway!
It's a shame that he hasn't got a dash cam in the little Moggie as that would have gone viral.
What a vain plonker doing something like that, especially on that road
Glad to hear you are on the move again, hope things keep improving.

Our car has not left the driveway for over a month - will DVLA refund me 1/12th of my road tax ?
Does anyone know if the extended date is retained when you eventually have a test, or does the date move on just 6 months ?
I can see a glut of tests to be carried out later in the year.

I read the report and saw the photo today in the DM and according to the report the Audi was trying to park in the parking space but mounted the McLaren and then toppled over on its side
They then rescued the driver of the Audi but the report did not mention the name of the Audi driver. Whoever it is has a lot of explaining to do especially to the owner of the McLaren
I'm putting off buying an electric car until I have to and it'll look a bit like this one. Only trouble is that I don't think that it's too far away nowDitto :(
An extreme example but it actually happened. A friend of mine who lives in Bangor Gwynedd had to travel to Edinburgh to sort out a problem for her son who was there in Uni.
She drove there and back the same day.
It's 297 miles one way and takes approx 5 hrs 21 minutes to do the one way journey ( then she returned the same day.)
It was a cold Winter's day so she had the car heating on plus the radio for companionship. Could the EV ever have done this journey too?
Whilst I agree that an alternative fuel is needed I wonder how long it will take for everyone to be driving around in electric vehicles. Who really expects everyone to get rid of their petrol/diesel cars and buy new ... totally impractical.
That is apart from the impracticalities of every home having a car (or more than one) plugged into the electric supply at night, or trying to find sockets in the likes of ASDA car park (other supermarkets are available). Parking in Mostyn Street with leads trailing to the charging points, pedestrians falling over the cables. I sometimes wonder just how well people think things through!
My own car is on lease and due for renewal later this year - I could easily change to a hybrid but instead I will be keeping the car. I suspect it will be more fun to keep driving my Honda Civic Type R (over 30mpg and only takes a couple of minutes to fill the tank, range is about 320 miles) rather than go for a hybrid Honda, which are very good cars.
I suspect the potential cost of replacing batteries and probably other items could make it very costly.
Obviously they were staying away from where they had left it, so anyone needing the space to recharge their car would have been scuppered.
