Local News & Discussion / Re: The UK's fraud epidemic.
« Last post by SteveH on April 05, 2024, 02:08:21 pm »
I received a telephone call this morning from 01492594973 informing me there had been an attempt to take two payments out of my account but not which account. Then went on to ask me to press 1 for further assistance. I have had these calls before which turned out to be scams, but never from a local number which is worrying. On checking the number online all it's saying is it's a BT Landline located in Colwyn Bay. Has anyone else received one of these calls, or has anyone got a suggestion as to who I can report this too?

Asthma: Scientists find new cause of lung damage

UK scientists say they have found a new cause behind much of the damage asthma causes.

Cells lining the airways are squeezed to destruction during an attack, their research shows.

And drugs to prevent this, rather than manage its aftermath, might break the cycle of harm, the Kings College London researchers told the Science journal.

The airways of people with asthma are sensitive to triggers such as pollen, pets and exercise....

They become inflamed or swollen, causing symptoms including coughing, wheezing and breathlessness.

Existing drugs or inhalers can reduce this inflammation and help keep the airways open.

But repeated attacks can cause permanent scarring and narrowing of the airways.

Update on above..........

Businesses braced for new recycling law challenges

Cost, space and contamination are some of the worries facing business owners as a new workplace recycling law comes into force across Wales.

From Saturday, all businesses, public sector organisations and charities will be legally required to separate their waste ready for collection.

The Welsh government said the majority of businesses supported the new law and its response for non-compliance would be fair and proportionate.

Figures suggest 75% of business waste is recyclable - but it believed too much still ends up being sent to landfill, incineration plants or abroad.

The move forms part of plans to achieve net zero waste, external and reduced emissions by 2050.

WORK ON the Old Colwyn promenade could be completed next week, with the council saying the project is "nearly there".

This week, a flood gate, road signs, health markers and roadside safety fencing are being installed by contractors.

To complete the promenade, coloured surfacing will need to be added to the road.

The council said that weather permitting, they expected to complete the work next week.

They added that once benches had been installed on the newly laid surfacing, the promenade and road would be open soon after.

Solar eclipse 2024: When and where to see it in Wales
Half the country will witness a partial eclipse, weather permitting

On Monday, April 8, the moon will temporarily obscure the sun and cast a dark shadow across Earth

As the sun sinks below the horizon, the partial eclipse will first become visible in North Wales on the coast at Talacre and Rhyl at 42 seconds after 7.55pm. A second later, the eclipse will start on the north Anglesey coast. A further two seconds and it will begin at Llandudno, with the Great Orme likely to be a prime viewing spot.
