Title: Favourite TV Shows
Post by: DaveR on November 15, 2010, 08:53:40 pm
I rarely watch tv but do like the odd series. My faves at the moment are The Apprentice (current UK series and the far better US version with Donald Trump which is in its 10th series).

Also, An Idiot Abroad is very funny.

The Apprentice is a load of pretentious, pompous and aggressive garbage.

I spent far too long in corporate life, watching the politics of halfwits such as these as they climbed the 'greasy pole' , to find it entertaining.
I find it stressful to watch,  almost as stressful as those D List celebrities eating live creatures in the jungle.

Mrs Fester loves it, probably because she still has to work with idiots such as them.

I would not give one of them houseroom in any of my (or my employer's) companies.  They are just like a load of kids with their arguing and squabbling.   And they are the sort of silly billies that we have to rely on to lead the country in the future!   As Sargeant Frazer would say, "We're DOOMED, DOOMED I say!"   L0L

I used to like "Come Dine with Me" when it was about people genuinely trying to produce a decent meal for a group of strangers, but now it seems to be full of TV"wannabees" some of whom can't cook and others who don't like good food, and most of them only there to wind up others and show off their plastic showhomes

The other TV shows I never miss are "Dexter" and "Criminal MInds" (not quite sure what that says about me !)

Suepp - I agree with tou about Come Dine with Me - I think it's more a question of "be on a show" as with lots of this type of programmes :rage:

I was once on a TV show, A  group of us from Bangor Tech were staying at the Devonshire street YHA in London when we were told of a "Disco"  in the Basement, When we got there and saw the cameras, we were told it was a documentary promote British tea! Jimmy Savile was the DJ so that was exciting, next he introduced Dr Magnus Pyke who was telling us interesting scientific facts between records, after about 15 minutes Eammon Andrews arrived to surprise Dr Pyke with the big red book - "This is your Life"!  When they left to go to the real studio Jimmy stayed and chatted to us, he was a real gent, and told us of places he'd been to in North Wales. He had half a moustache and a beard at the time and a large ring on his finger that he used as an ashtray for his enormous cigar!

I never did see the actual programme, I think it may have been Live at the time (around 1975)

The Louis Theroux documentary on Jimmy Saville was fascinating.

I agree it was he's one very strange bloke.
I went on a biking weekend to Fort William recently (it's a damn long way to go for a weekend from Yorkshire) but we drove right past his house down Glencoe it's the tiniest little place in the middle of nowhere but the scenery was absolutely awesome and it was quite obvious that he likes isolation.

We did check as we past by....there was no-one around and no shell suit on the washing line  L0L

I was flicking through the channels last night and came across a programme called Tool Academy.  It was so funny. Basically 12 girlfriends nominated their boyfriends to take part in the programme. The lads thought they were taking part in a competition to be Britains Hunkiest Guy. I know its tight but I had to laugh when the lads found out why they were actually there, their faces were a picture, a lot of male ego bruising going on.  _))* _))* Tool Academy does exactly what it says on the tin.
You know when Ann Robinson says "you are the weakest link" well on this programme the loser of the day gets told "sorry mate, you are just a tool" hehehehe brilliant.

Can you imagine if the shoe was on the other foot and your boyfriend had said he was entering you into a contest for Britains Best Girlfriend, only to arrive and discover you were actually anything but.  L0L

No sack that, Its not funny, I'd actually go mental.
Afraid I'm hooked now, got to watch it again.

I have to thank Mrs Fester for pointing me in the direction of this one.  :o

Interesting in lots of ways, especially in how the normal image of the gypsy/traveller community is challenged. The moral code for the young girls is far stricter than for girls in the normal community - cant go out on their own, cant go on a date unless chaperoned, cant drink alcohol until they get married etc.

But...they have to leave school at 12 or 13, to take care of the extended family, they have a very sexually precocious behaviour when dancing, even from a very young age it seems, and the same strictures don't appear to apply to the boys.

What's been disappointing is that we've only seen the Irish Travellers thus far;  I'd be more interested in seeing the Roma.

Indeed, but you said

Quote
The moral code for the young girls is far stricter than for girls in the normal community

and I was simply pointing out that there are some inherent contradictions within the very tribal mores to which they adhere.
Title: Re: Favourite TV Shows
Post by: DaveR on February 04, 2011, 02:01:49 pm
Not really contradictions though, are they, as it all ties in together with the overall aim of the girls both retaining their honour and becoming a desirable wife. The girls may dress provocatively at a relatively young age but that's practising to advertise their suitability as future wives. I'd suspect there are practically no gypsy single mothers.

probably because they become submissive - watching the "grabbing" ritual last night  some of the behaviour verged on assault,

Mrs F and I have just returned from Benidorm... first went 2 years ago as the in laws love it there...

I have to admit that I loved it too.
The cheesiness of the Benidorm programme is there in abundance.

But, so are classy hotels and restuarants, traditional tapas bars and a beautiful promenade and beach.

The first 2 series were hilarious, I can watch them over again... the third series was a bit contrived, and they ran out of ideas a bit.

Most of the shows we watch are on Sky: House (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0412142/), Big Bang Theory (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0898266/) (incredibly funny) and we're currently working our way through the box set of Lost (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0411008/).

Lost is superb, with complex, interweaving story lines and finely drawn characters, plus an outstanding location.  If you're wiling to take the time with it, and enjoy complex ScFi, then you  will enjoy Lost.

Every so often, US TV comes along with shows that challenge viewers and make them work.  West Wing (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0200276/) was one such, and it's in the same stable as Lost. Thinking about, you probably don't need a TV these days;  simply buy the box sets of the best of the shows that arrive.

About five weeks ago a rather odd, indeed - surreal - programme appeared on Sky Atlantic. Called "This is Jinsy' (http://skyatlantic.sky.com/shows/this-is-jinsy) , originally piloted on BBC 3.

It's very odd, but at the same time strangely compelling.  In fact, it's funny, clean, intelligent and fairly original. The two leads also play most of the parts but the most significant aspect is the legion of top quality performers they've had lining up to be involved. Simon Callow was the latest, but Harry Hill, David Tennant, Catherine Tate and Nigel planer - to name but four - have all appeared.  This is good stuff: they don't do easy gags, or cheap laughs.  There are repeated aspects - such as the Island Singers - which are a delight.

Well worth watching.
Title: X Factor
Post by: Hugo on December 07, 2011, 06:23:11 pm
Fans of X Factor cried "fix" last night according to the Daily Mirror today. Apparently a music chain offered the chance to pre order Amelia Lily's winner's single -  four days before the grand final!
How come her single is available but not the other two contestants singles?
There have been allegations of phone rigging in the past with other shows so I would have thought the voting system would have been more transparent and the viewers made aware of how many votes each contestant has received.
Title: Re: X Factor

Oh do me a favour of course it's bloody rigged.  I mean Jedward won one year and what a pair of annoying quiffed Muppets they were, it's utter brain numbing crap.  Wagner the geriatric, couldn't sing if he tried, leather clad old has been, not a chance did ordinary people vote for him, no he was left in as he was a talking point even if it was negative. he was the male version of Margarita Pracatan from the Clive James show.  Talking of Clive James he once said "watching this, made me want to pull off my head and give it a good wash out with hot soapy water" I rest my case  ;D

I personaly think that all voting should be by a "live panel" in the theatre, present at the time of the performance.  Then you would get an honest vote 'cos they would not be coruptable, would they?????    _))*    _))*    _))*

You could well be right Yorkie but they are only after money and that's why they have the phone in's.   I don't think that Jedward won the X Factor but they did manipulate their singing by turning down the mic's of Jedward and turning up the mic's of the backing group so as to drown the awful racket that Jedwood produced.
Since then they have tampered with the autotune for acts like Wagner and recently Kitty.  The whole business stinks anyway and I'm surprised that I still watch this stuff.

I think that you've done the wisest thing Bri, I've always thought that it was rigged to get the acts through that would generate the most money for the show whether they could sing or not.
This year was worse than the others so next year I'll do like you have and not bother at all.

Not really, I just hate ITV and when one of their 3 to 4 hours over the weekend shows comes to an end, there is a few weeks respite before another heap of crap starts, and all of them asking millions of empty headed viewers to phone the premium rate phone to vote, vote, vote!  I will ignore any further mentions of that twit J Clarkson.  There, I'm done. :'(

I can't stand Piers Morgan if that helps at all?

I am not really saying this as I am still lost for words with your latest revelations regarding X Factor.  Anyway, all I can say in respect of Piers Morgan is that two wrongs do not make a right.  Furthermore, until you mentioned Mr Morgan, I did not really have an opinion on him, having always mentally  put him in the "non-person" classification.  Anyway, that's me, off to blow away the cobwebs down in Conwy.

X Factor, Big Brother, Get me out of Here, all those type of things make me scream at the TV. Jeremy Clarkson I don't like, but being married to a petrolhead we watch Top Gear-- mainly for the cars, I used to like Hammy, but he has gone a little bit 'trendy' these days. James May amuses me-- he's chaotic!
Simon Cowell-- you can see £ signs going round in his head when he sees something  the likes of Susan Boyle :o
Piers Morgan-- he loves himself doesn't he?
Louis Spence-- Yes that's him!

Blew our cobwebs away in Conwy yesterday afternoon, took the old Classic car for a spin and then had a nice walk.

I have always hated Big Brother, I'm a Celeb etc etc but for some reason we like the XFactor, I've no idea why, I'd never buy anything they released and it's not really my kind of music (I like rock etc) I like the early programmes with the ones who think they can sing and get stroppy when Simon tells them they can't  WWW  it hooks you in then!

'Simon Cowell-- you can see £ signs going round in his head '

I would be the same in his position ;D

:rage: The whole thing has gone down the drain--I shall refrain from commenting on the new judges-- one of them makes me feel like throwing something at the TV.
ITV has more adverts than programmes nowadays. Most of those drive me nuts as well. I'm done as well !

This is precisely why I now Sky-Plus everything, and watch it soon after with a delay.
I haven't seen an advert in ages.
P.S. I quite like X-Factor.
Piers Morgan is very clever, but judging by his recent appearance at the phone-hacking hearing, he is a cynical liar.

I like watching a programme on ITV called "Four in a bed" and before anyone makes a comment, it's not a kinky programme that you see after midnight!
It's about 4 people who run B & B establishments and they stay at each others accommodation and rate it as they think fit.  This week there was a couple from the Orme Court at Llandudno on it and they turned out to be the eventual winners of the show.
The only trouble was that although I recorded the whole series the recorder did not record the stay at the Orme Court.         :rage:
I did however see the highlights of the Orme Court's day on the following day's showing so well done the Orme Court    &well&

Carol and Kelvin now own 'Indulgence' Cafe in Clonmel Street. Orme Court is owned by Paul and Janette Smith and yes it is for sale.

Thought that one of the couples on that prog were dreadful, and very unfair to expect things like 4 poster beds, baths and themed rooms. Fair enough if you are paying what they were asking, but not for a lovely place at a modest price like Orme Court.

I've just been watching "Winter Road Rescue" on Freeview and part of it is about the people that work on snowploughs especially in the Scottish highlands.
It was quite exciting viewing and those drivers were doing an excellent job, sometimes in very dangerous conditions.   Health and Safety didn't seem to come into it!
I just hope those guys were well rewarded for their effort.
I hope that Mull is safe and sound where he lives because those Scottish Winters are something else.

Just wondering if anyone has watched an American tv show called 'True Detective'? I believe it can be seen on Sky Atlantic here in the UK.

We've just watched the first series and I think it's the most compelling programme that I've seen in a long time. Superb stuff.

It has an IMDB Rating of 9.3/10.

I watched it when it was first screened on Sky Atlantic & like most programmes on that channel it was excellent. The second series is half way through at the mo' but I'm waiting for it to end before I watch it in a 'Box Set Binge'. Completely different story though, based in L.A. with Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams & Vince Vaughn in the starring roles.

It's available in the Sky Box Sets and the first series is only eight episodes.
I'd also recommend Ray Donovan if you can get it. It stars Liev Schreiber as a 'fixer' to the wealthy who can make just about any problem go away. A good supporting cast with Jon Voight, Elliot Gould and Eddie Marsan.

I enjoy GOT but find it departs too much from the books (issue with most SciFi or Fantasy conversions to TV, it seems). It's true GOT had broken records for illegal downloading but it's not on a FTA channel and so draws competitively few actual viewing figures. It ties with Waking Dead and I notice the top ten illegally downloaded shows have a distinctly juvenile slant.

If you've read the books then you'll know the main reason the TV series has made changes is because they've caught up and are preparing to pass where George R R Martin is at & will need to go their own way owing to how slow he is releasing each installment.

We've been watching the first series of The Following this week. I've never been a massive fan of Kevin Bacon but he is pretty good in this, and it's a great story, with lots of twists and turns. Recommended!

"THE FBI estimates there are currently up to 300 active serial killers in the United States. What would happen if these killers had a way of communicating and connecting with each other? What if they were able to work together and form alliances as they left a trail of blood across the country? What if one brilliant and charismatic, yet psychotic serial killer was able to bring them all together and activate a cult of believers following his every command?"

Game of Thrones is rubbish,  but still available on catch up TV is 'The People vs OJ Simpson'

Absolutely captivating, and you we all know the outcome (or we think we do), but the lengths the legal people and politicians went to during the saga beggars belief.

One of the best drama documentaries I've ever seen, and superbly scripted and acted.

I'm sorry, but you're just WRONG!
How much of it have you actually watched before making this decision?
I genuinely think it is the best television series ever produced and the scale of it is just EPIC.
I'm half way through Season 6 at the moment and can promise DaveR he hasn't seen anything yet, scenes like the Red Wedding leave you absolutely speechless and are so pivotal you wonder where the story can go next but it always finds a way and just gets better and better!

I watched quite a bit of it actually, because I liked the spectacle of it, the CGI effects and most certainly the excellent theme tune.
But then I got turned off by some of childish notions of these inter-connecting lands, the gratuitous violence seemingly just for the shock value, and the extent of the fantasy, (pet dragons etc)
It was like an X rated Harry Potter almost.
Then, 2 weeks ago I started watching again, the latest series.  I even Sky-plussed the series.
Again I was mesmerised by the effects,  but then my same old objections came to the fore again, so I cancelled it off.

It certainly divides opinions. One thing I disliked was the tendency for the writers to make a character very appealing and then bump 'em off. But it whiles away 40 minutes or so when I'm bored. Our eldest is a huge fan of the show, however, while the younger can take it or leave it. FWIW I think Grimm is the best show - although even that's starting to show cracks, so convoluted has the story now become.

As I said previously, "You know nothing Fester!"  (DaveR will get this reference in Season 3!)
Saw the Red Wedding last night, certainly didn't see THAT coming!! Excellent stuff!

There are some good YouTube clips of viewer's reactions to the Red Wedding, quite funny.
After it became obvious there were going to be many twists and turns people started filming themselves for viewer reaction videos and some are quite good. Last week's episode The Door was another biggie so make sure if you watch any that you've actually seen the episode first as they're full of spoilers!

I hear episode 9 is the one chosen to be submitted for Emmy nomination (rightly so) but episode 10 had an amazing musical soundtrack and was equally spectacular but in such a different way as it aligned all the different storylines ready for what is to come. Sadly the director of those two episodes won't be back next year.
They say there will be two more seasons but of shorter length, season seven will have seven episodes and the final season will be only six! Next April can't come soon enough!

As the music plays people with a range of impairments show what they can do too, including a mother with no arms holding her baby with her feet, children with prosthetic limbs running, jumping, and playing football, a woman flying a plane with her feet and a man driving a rally car with his feet."

I was watching ITV Wales last night and had forgotten about the TV series called The Harbour and had a nice surprise when it came on at 8.00pm.
It was filmed in Tenby and was about the lives of people working in the harbour area of Tenby.   We have had a couple of holidays in that beautiful town and it was great to see the town again and watching the people working there was fascinating.

I enjoyed Hinterland too. One episode was quite haunting....the murder of the minister. During the programme there was unaccompanied Welsh chapel singing from an L.P. ...I thought I read" canu pydw?" on the record label. That added significantly in terms of effect. Mind you I was brought up as Methodist perhaps it reminded of the fear inculcated with any possible wrongdoing!

Game Of Thrones starts very slowly and then just gets better and better and better as the seasons progress. When I watched the first couple of episodes, I wasn't that thrilled but then it starts to get a hold of you...

The sexual content does decrease as the story progresses.

I was watching "Robson Green's Coastal Lives" on ITV  on Tuesday at 8.00 pm this week and it featured the Isle of Skye.   It was well worth watching and showed a lot of the beautiful scenery up there on the Isle.    Mull and Helig certainly live in a nice part of the world as we do here in North Wales.

They showed a clip from next weeks programme and it should be well worth watching.      It's about Anglesey and features some stunning properties and locations including Ynys Y Gorad which is the island with two cottages on and is situated in the Menai Straits between the two bridges

The (media induced?) furore around Gunpowder ensured at least one extra viewer. We hadn't bothered recording it, but when the complaints started coming in thought it might be worth a watch. It's produced by Kudos and Kit Harington’s Thriker Films, and it seems the GoT star has decided that realism - or at least, the nastier sort - sells. Anyone else seen it?

I have just watched tonight's episode of Great British Railway Journeys and it has an interesting piece about Gwrych Castle and the Countess who owned it.
I never knew before that the person who is trying to restore it with the trust started off the attempt when he was a 12 yr old schoolboy! Good luck to him.

The programme is available on BBC I Player if you missed it.

Michael Portillo travels between Liverpool and Wales, finding a miniature tank engine made by Frank Hornby, visiting the ruins of Gwrych Castle and meeting a Welsh surfing champion.

I must admit that I didn't care much for Michael Portilla as a politician but as a presenter on the railway jouneys he is really good and I've just finished and enjoyed watching the one featuring Gwrych Castle.
That young guy that is trying to restore the castle is quite a remarkable young man and I hope he is able to achieve what he has set out to do.
I'm now looking forward to seeing the next chapter in his railway journey

Yes;  it's the greasy Portillo as presenter that deters me from watching.

On a slightly different note, for Fester: have you watched Orville?  It's on Fox at the moment and it's written and produced by Seth McFarlane, not known for his erudite or socially-aware tendencies, but the Orville is quite remarkable. It's essentially Star Trek - TOS - given a makeover.

What marked ST out from other Sci Fi was its preparedness to deal with the socio-political issues of the day.  Orville is continuing that tradition, and - although what passes for humour from McFarlane is still in the script in places - it's about as far from Family Guy as you could get, and pulls off the trick of getting you to empathise with and care about the characters.

Very much worth seeing if you enjoy Star Trek.

A curious comedy started a year or so ago and I watched it, for need of something better to do, until eventually I was drawn into it. It's only 13 episodes in length, and the second season proves even better than the first - unusual in US comedy series.

The show is called The Good Place and if you fancy trying it, best not to look up what wiki says about it. It's a rare item, scoring 100% on various critics' sites, including Rotten Tomatoes, and there are almost no laugh-out-loud moments.  What it does do, however, is explore ethics, people, perceptions and good vs evil.  It's on channel 4, I think (or 5, it may be) and it's definitely from the quirky stable, so you may find yourselves watching the first 10 episodes with a mild feeling of bemusement. But it's actually turned out (for me, anyway) a great deal better than I imagined it would.

Certainly  worth watching.

I am watching channel 4's new series "Call the cops" at the moment, and it is very different to the expected police action, chases etc. it is centered on the control room, we all know about budget cuts, and less police on the streets, this program is showing the continual mental strain involved in prioritising  which job to deal with, an example from last night, the 13 year old threatening to jump off a bridge or the 14 year old about to stab his father,........ and having to live with the consequences of making the wrong call.

A bit of a local slant re above Police priorities...................  ref DP

“But we don’t police speed anything like we used to 10 years ago or before that, yet we still get the old “police only catch speeders.”

“You will rarely see a police officer standing out with a speed camera as we simply don’t have the time to do that nowadays with so many complex mental health and welfare needs to deal with.

“There were days when we spent all our days on crime but we are now dealing with so many more social issues than in years gone by.”

What an eye opener to see how stretched the force is.
The question is how have we allowed it to happen  ?

The PM and his party have allowed this situation to happen. How long will it take train all the new police officers ?
As for the Brexit idea of our own fishing waters. With only 4 fishery patrol boats how are we going to police the area.
The whole thing is a joke. Not a funny one !

I have always enjoyed watching TV programmes on walking and think that the walks by Fishlock, Julia Bradbury and Weatherman Walking are well worth seeing
However last night because I had recorded too many programmes on my Humax machine I watched Yorkshire Walks on BBC 2 Wales.  The presenter Shanaz Gulzar was exploring the Wensleydale area and I must admit that it was the most boring and amateurish thing that I have ever seen on TV.      I'm now under strict orders from Mrs H not to record that programme ever again as even to an avid fan of walking that was just dire

On a much happier note we later watched Spy in the Wild on BBC 1.   What an incredible bit of filming as camouflaged spy cameras go undercover in the animal world.  That's one we will definitely watch next week

I've had a chance to watch some TV programmes recently and have been watching & recording Coach Trip on Channel E 4.      It's a reality show featuring Z list celebrities going on an overseas coach trip where they participate in certain games on the trip and at the end of the day have to vote off a couple of the "celebs" that they don't want to travel with any more.
It's light watching and can be entertaining in parts
This week the coach picked up Louie Spence then Mr Motivator.     Louie was Louie and was bitching and mincing from the start and then unexpectedly and without warning left the coach trip before he could be voted off.
Mr Motivator was joined then by Tim Vincent and I was quite surprised and disappointed by Mr Motivator.      The self styled fitness fanatic and the world's leading fitness instructor didn't  # say yeah  when it came to doing any physical activities.   What a wimp and he didn't accept getting voted off the coach very well.
I'm looking forward to this week's coach journey

Just a reminder for anyone that is interested, Spy in the Wild is on BBC 1   tonight at 9.00pm.     It's about spy cameras that go undercover to film creatures in the wild.
Tonight it covers Snow Monkeys in Japan as well as millions of Butterflies in Mexico

Steve, it might be worth watching to give you some ideas for that camera that you were interested in

Post by: SteveH on February 03, 2020, 05:31:27 pm
The cost of the annual television licence fee will increase from £154.50 to £157.50 from April 1, the BBC has said.

The fee is set by the Government, which announced in 2016 that it would rise in line with inflation for five years from April 2017.

The new cost equates to £3.02 per week – or £13.13 per month, according to the broadcaster.

The price change will not currently have an impact on the free over-75s TV licence.

There is an interesting show on BBC1 called The Goes Wrong Show that's just finished a six week run.

The show is based on the concept of an amateurish (read inept) theatre company putting on a 30 minute play each week in each of which if something can go wrong, it does.

The idea comes from the successful run of The Play That Goes Wrong on both the West End and Broadway culminating in a nationwide USA tour. When The Play That Goes Wrong was staged at the Old Red Lion pub theatre in 2012 the recent Lamda graduates were in minimum wage jobs by day and performing at night. Only a handful of people bought tickets for the first show before it became a word-of-mouth hit.

So what's it about? Imagine you're at your grandchildren's school play and the inevitable massive mistake happens, and you've got the picture. It's a formula that's been packing them in at three West End venues, a Broadway theatre (which JJ Abrams  co-produced) and throughout their US nationwide tour. But it won't appeal to some.

It's incredibly cleverly done; props go awry, scenery collapses, timing is all over the place, cues are missed and characters are bizarre. But these are intentional errors and the mistiming is highly accurate. It's true laugh-out-loud comedy and slapstick for those who loved Morecambe and Wise's Plays and Frasier, the writing of which influenced the show's creators.

The precision of the show is flawless- which takes a lot of hard work and rehearsal, and there are numerous subtleties. However, for those who want a relief from the times in which we live, this is first class escapism. If you choose to watch it, expect nothing deep but pure, unadulterated slapstick and humour. One of the funniest shows I've seen for years.

Last Friday  ( 3rd April )  there was a very interesting programme on Channel 5 at 8.00 pm.    It was called Walking Britain's Lost Railways and would appeal to walkers and railway enthusiasts alike.
Rob Bell visited Bangor in N Wales where he explored the lost line that was built in 1801 to transport Welsh slate from the local quarry and it was interesting to see some actual footage of the trains that once ran along the lines he visited.

My walking mates and I have walked along part of the route Lon Las Ogwen and it's a very interesting walk with viaducts, bridges and a long tunnel at Tregarth.
The first time we ever walked along the route from Bethesda I got the actual start of the walk wrong but by a sheer fluke it was at the start of the narrow gauge railway and it was interesting to see how it was and that area is also covered in the TV programme

would'nt argue with that, realy hits home to the reason to stay at home. Please take care every one and stay at home untill you get the all clear. I got my text message yestrday to say im on the hit list and to stay indoors for 12 weeks get someone to take my rubish to the bin and not to touch it, i should leave a window open but not leave the house, Im lucky i have my wife to help out and our back garden is isolated so at least i can stretch my legs. as i play golf at least 3 times a week it might as well be a jail sentence but if its a choice of catching the darn virus or staying in and stopping me from getting it and maybe passing it on to my wife , then there is no contest . At least i have the pleasure of reading the posts on the T.T.F. and it  fills a space in a somtimes very frustrating day. Once again take care all.

Not sure if this has been posted already ........

A NEW television series will showcase the remarkable stories and wonderful scenery along North Wales’ stunning coastline.

ITV’s Sean Fletcher explores the 870-mile Wales Coast Path on an epic adventure along one of the world’s most unique coastlines.

The first episode takes viewers to the dramatic landscapes of the North Wales coast, from the Talacre Dunes to Great Orme, to discover the unique wildlife and vibrant communities.

The new series captures the unique stories and biodiversity along the Welsh coastline, which is home to vibrant communities, breathtaking scenery and rare wildlife.

The Wales Coast Path remains committed to conversing the path’s coastal environments, whilst promoting the positive benefits of walking.

Given the current coronavirus situation, the Wales Coast Path encourages audiences to enjoy the series from the comfort of their own home and plan to visit Wales later.

The series, Wonders of the Coast Path, will air weekly on ITV Wales from April 27 at 8.30pm before airing nationally in the summer from July 2020.

A surprise for "Killing Eve" fans........

A MOCHDRE based teddy bear company has revealed it made a 'killing' out of the popular cult psychological drama Killing Eve.

Be My Bear, located at Mochdre Business Park, supplied hundreds of bears and outfits to Sid Gentle Films Ltd, the producers of the show, during the filming of scenes in London last year.

Their bulldogs and bears sporting Union Jack t-shirts were featured in the opening episode but in episode three, a whole scene is given over to their cuddly celebrities.

Assassin Villanelle visits their 'shop', stuffed full of Be My Bear teddies and friends, and records a message for her adversary Eve which she then places into one of the pink teddies and delivers to Eve’s home in the latest twist in their cat and mouse relationship

TV fanatics will continue to have free access to channels including ITV2, Dave and E4 for another decade as Freeview licences have been renewed.

Ministers have said Public service and commercial broadcasters can continue to deliver content free-to-air to audiences across the UK after ministers decided the Freeview platform will be supported until at least 2034.

As such, free access for viewers to digital TV channels is protected into the next decade.

The government has given Ofcom the power to renew the five national multiplex licences for the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) platform.

TV multiplexes are digital networks which allow several TV channels to be compressed and transmitted at the same time over a single radio frequency.

The BBC TV licence fee is set to be scrapped in five years with the broadcaster’s funding frozen for the next two years, the government has said.

The annual payment, which normally changes on April 1 each year, is expected to be kept at the current rate of £159 until April 2024, with additional ways of funding being considered by Nadine Dorries.

The culture secretary said the next announcement concerning the BBC’s licence fee “will be the last” as a new funding model is being considered for when the latest deal expires in 2027.

A new look X-Ray will return to BBC One Wales for a new series on May 30th at 8pm and will be travelling around the country for six weeks from today.

For nearly two years – through the height of the pandemic – X-Ray was filmed inside BBC Wales’ Central Square building in Cardiff. Now, with restrictions easing, the programme is going back out on the streets of Wales to meet the public. And with the current cost of living crisis, X-Ray has never been more important.

The X-Ray team, including presenter Lucy Owen, will be hitting the road, bringing a new look pop-up set to six different towns and cities and members of the public are invited to come along...Llandudno North Shore Beach Promenade (near Prince Edward Square) – June 21

The new series will feature a new ‘Ask the X-Ray Expert’ section, where viewers can meet the team and ask for advice from experts on subjects such as building work, buying a car or booking a holiday.

I've enjoyed watching "Wales Home of the year"  it's on BBC Wales on Friday evening at 7.30pm.      Last night's episode featured 3 properties in the N West Wales area.       One was an old farmhouse in the Llyn Peninsula, another was from Church Walks Llandudno and the third was from Gannock Park Deganwy
I particularly wanted to see Hunter's Lodge in Deganwy as I viewed the property C1985 with a view to buying it when I was moving with work.
It then had an asking price of about 50K   but since then a lot of work has gone on improving the place and it was last on the market at a price over 800K.
It's a beautiful house but last night's winner was the house in Church Walks

BBC's The Repair Shop emotional scenes as blind veteran's bugle is restored in moving moment
Billy is a blind veteran at the Llandudno blind veteran's rehabilitation centre and was overjoyed to receive his restored bugle back on BBC One's The Repair Shop, he is also the Llandudno Town Crier.

The Repair Shop on BBC One often promises emotional moments when owners are reunited with their restored, treasured possessions. This was the case when a blind veteran from the Llandudno blind veteran's rehabilitation centre received back his bugle after it had been completely restored by expert Pete Woods.

Billy Baxter was gifted the bugle by Nicky Shaw, who accompanied him to The Repair Shop workshop. Nicky had the bugle in her family for years with the instrument passed down from her great grandfather and wanted to continue seeing it being used.

For the last 10 days and it's still continuing Mrs H  and I have had to stay with our dog 24/7 following his operation.    During that time we have been watching TV more often than usual and it's amazing just how much there is available to see on it
On BBC 1  I Player we have enjoyed " Scotland's home of the year" and one of the judges is a guy called Banjo Beale an Australian who presently lives on The Isle of Mull
Today we found out that Banjo Beale also has his own TV programme and it's called "Designing the Hebrides"      It's worth watching even if it's only to see the beautiful scenery of Mull and the buildings there
No wonder our forum friend Mull chose to live there many years ago

On BBC Wales TV  Monday at 8.00 pm is a TV programme called Wales Home of the year.    It's a light hearted series where three judges pick out their preferred home.
Hollins took a lovely photo of an Arts and Crafts home when she did a walk starting from Llanfairfechan.     In Llanfairfechan is a whole estate of these houses which have been designed and built by the same architect and if I'm not mistaken one of the properties in The Close will be featured in next week's show.       I'm curious to see what they look like on the inside but they are certainly attractive from the outside

BBC One's political debate programme is coming to Llandudno next month.

BBC Question Time is scheduled to come to the town on November 9.

The topical debate programme features guests from the worlds of politics and the media who answer questions posed by members of the public.

Question Time presenter Fiona Bruce took over from long-serving host David Dimbleby.

Readers can apply to join the Question Time Audience. Successful applicants will be contacted on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before the programme.

Question Time audience members will be requested to come up with two questions to be considered for the programme.

A statement on 'Join the Question Time Audience' said: "It's important that as many applicants as possible get the chance to be part of a Question Time audience. If you have been in a QT audience within the past five years we are delighted that you want to do it all over again, but please give others a chance and don't apply this time round. If you have applied before but not been successful, we welcome your application."

Title: Re: Trailer for Mr Bates vs The Post Office filmed in Llandudno

Earlier this year, filming took place in Llandudno for the four part series.

The drama tells the story of one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in British legal history.

Hundreds of innocent sub-postmasters and postmistresses were wrongly accused of theft, fraud and false accounting due to a defective IT system. Many of the wronged workers were prosecuted, some of whom were imprisoned for crimes they never committed, and their lives were irreparably ruined by the scandal.

North Wales became a filming location for movies and dramas this year

Do you ever get the feeling that your recognise a place featured in the film or television show you're watching?

If you live here in North Wales that might happen more often that you expect.

In recent years, the region with its stunning coastline and beaches has provided the backdrop for many a production.

They have been showing a few clips on TV about the Post Office scandal and that should be worth watching when it comes out in early January.    We drove down the promenade some time ago and Queen's Road in Craig Y Don was closed to traffic but that was when some of the scenes were being filmed for the show

ITV drama featuring North Wales postmaster's real-life battle leaves viewers shocked
'They didn?t just inflict financial ruin, destroying livelihoods, it also destroyed families'

We watched the first episode last night and it was quite gripping to watch, just seeing the injustice that happened to so many people made us feel quite angry and emotional too.   Nothing will compensate those victims for what they have been put through  and the scars will remain with them for ever.   Episode 2 is on tonight at 9.00 pm on ITV

A few more episodes to go yet.

I wonder how long it will be before they reveal that the lady running the Post Office at the time was awarded a CBE in 2019 and was given a
very big bonus after what she inflicted on these poor people.

Sick or what!

That's typical Mull.     I must admit that I enjoyed watching the show but it did get me very angry and emotional at the way those people were treated by the Post Office and it's not over yet
I'll watch tonight's episode and try to not get too worked up about it all and will stick to a cup of tea instead of a pint or two instead

There was an interview with the real Mr Bates on ITV this morning and he said that the Post Office/ Government were delaying payment for the 555 and added that 50 or 60 of those people had already died without receiving compensation or clearing their own name

When Mrs H and I started watching the series she remembered the lady in the Craig Y Don wool shop from the time she went in to the shop to buy some wool some years ago.    She said that the woman had an interest in art and that the TV character was  portrayed correctly.
The scenery in the mountains in the first episode is as beautiful as I remember and I must have gone past that cottage at some time but cannot remember where exactly it is located.   It was in a stunning location though

It's on the road opposite the A5, Hugo, and beyond the house is a cabin used by the YMCA in Liverpool.

Thanks Ian,  I've just looked it up on Google street view.   It's quite remote but set in a stunning location with beautiful views over to the Carneddau
We have walked down that old road a number of times in the past and must have gone past the cottage.       One such walk sticks out in my memory more than the others and that was when Tellytubby arranged a walk from Bethesda over the Carneddau before crossing the A5 and walking down that lane to the Ogwen Cottage and a walk around Cwm Idwal before catching the bus back to Bethesda.
At the Ogwen cafe I fancied a coffee so we stopped and I asked the guy who served us "when is the next bus back to Bethesda".
The guy replied about 6 months as the bus company had gone bust!
We skipped the intended walk along the lake and walked back along the A5.       At least it was a dry day and we even walked over the old packhorse bridge that goes under the A5

A petition calling for former Post Office boss Paula Vennells to be stripped of her CBE over the Horizon scandal has reached more than one million signatures. The petition calls for the Honours Forfeiture Committee to remove Ms Vennells CBE after the scandal was covered in a new ITV drama.
