WETHERSPOON have still got their sights set on land being disposed of by the council in Colwyn Bay.

In August, the Pioneer reported that Conwy County Borough Council's Cabinet had reaffirmed the decision to dispose of a parcel of land at the Market Hall site.

Wetherspoon are keen to purchase the land and build a new garden for the pub.

Four months on, however, and discussions are still ongoing.

A spokesperson for the pub chain said: "Wetherspoon is still in discussions with the local authority."

DESPITE rumours, a huge supermarket chain have confirmed they have no intention of leaving Colwyn Bay.
Rumours have been circulating that Morrisons may be leaving the BayView Shopping Centre after a number of shops in the town closed for good.

Poundland, in the BayView Shopping Centre, shut on January 5. The retailer said they were "unable to renew the lease".

Boots will be closing branches in both Colwyn Bay and Rhos-on-Sea this year. The company confirmed their pharmacy in Rhos will shut in March, with the Station Road store in Colwyn Bay set to close in April, as part of 300 Boots store closures across the UK.

A COUPLE who breathed new life into Colwyn Bay's Local Market amidst the challenges of the pandemic have revealed their decision to step away.

Stella McClure and her partner Ben Froment, of The Artisan Market Company, will no longer be managing the Colwyn Bay local market from the end of January.

In a joint statement, Stella and Ben said: "It's a sad decision that we've had to come to but we feel it's the right one.

"We took over the local market at the height of the pandemic and launched our very first market day straight out of the first lockdown to a new 'covid era' in July 2020.

The owners of risqu? card and gifts firm LimaLima unveiled a new headquarters less than 100 yards away on Erw Wen Road and now want to help breathe life into the town centre and local economy.

Employing up to 10 people across the two businesses, PersonaliseMe will utilise the space to sell branded workwear, promotional merchandise, customised gifts, and print, serving up seasonal displays and collections throughout the year.

Residents living on a ?tranquil? Colwyn Bay street say plans for 23 affordable apartments would be out of character of the area. Wales and West Housing Association has applied to Conwy County Council?s planning department, seeking permission to develop the site of the now vacant Guy?s Cliff Nursing Home on the corner of Conway Road and Alexandra Road.

The home?s last owner retired, selling the building before Christmas 2022. Conwy is currently in the middle of a housing crisis, with hundreds of people on the council waiting list for homes, so the authority is in dire need of affordable properties.

Residents and businesses left in limbo with scaffolding around properties after contractor goes bust
Council slammed for renovation stalemate as properties damaged

Fed-up residents and landlords in Colwyn Bay say their lives are being made a misery by unfinished work carried out at their privately owned properties on behalf of Conwy County Council. The residents say leaking pipes and broken guttering are causing worsening damp and black mould whilst half-fitted windows and doors and unfinished insulation mean the properties are uninhabitable and unfit to rent.

Many of the properties on Abergele Road are also covered by unsightly scaffolding, affecting the businesses beneath the apartments and maisonettes locked in the stalemate. Now residents are threatening to go to the ombudsman unless the problem is resolved.

A TOTAL of 22 streetlight lamps are to be replaced along the Old Highway in Colwyn Bay.

These will be replaced with warm amber LED lamps, which will benefit the woodland wildlife in the area.

This includes the population of lesser horseshoe bats, a European protected species, which roost and feed in the area.

The new orange-coloured lamps meet road lighting design safety standards, while reducing light pollution which affects the bats, birds, moths and other nocturnal wildlife.

The replacement lamps and installation costs are entirely funded by Welsh Government's Local Places for Nature fund.

The removed lamps will be reused in other street lighting

Update on above...........

Street lights in North Wales town to change colour and not everyone's happy

Streetlights are to be replaced on a tree-lined road in Conwy to make them more bat-friendly. The new orange-coloured LED lamps in Colwyn Bay are also designed to help other nocturnal wildlife such as birds and moths.

Their imminent installation prompted a backlash from residents reeling from huge council tax hikes and declining public services. The new streetlights also caused some people to pine for the return of old-fashioned sodium lamps that once cast an orange glow across the country?s streets and roads.

Here we go again...........

Beachside apartments could change look of this North Wales seafront
Proposals are in for land on the West Promenade at Colwyn Bay

A beachside apartment development could transform part of a North Wales seafront. An application is in for the Rydal Penrhos school's boatyard on West Promenade in Colwyn Bay.

Under the proposal a storage building on the site would be demolished. The land would then be used to build an 18 apartment development over five storeys.

Theatre productions scaled back due to broke council

CONWY'S precarious financial position is affecting North Wales theatre productions ? meaning the county is missing out on various arts grants.

According to a report due to be presented to Theatr Colwyn?s Joint Management Committee, the council-funded community theatre on Abergele Road is having to take less risks hosting shows.

Conwy is facing a budget shortfall of ?22.5m and is consequently about to agree a 9.67% council tax rise to reach a balanced budget for 2024/25.
