Last week, McCarthy Stone announced that they planned to submit a planning application to build retirement flats on Maelgwyn Road Car Park.
They have launched a Pre-Application Consultation asking for feedback, and we'd encourage everyone to share their views - McCarthy Stone will be expected to detail how they've addressed the points raised when they submit their planning application to Conwy County Borough Council.
You can respond to the consultation by emailing feedback@mccarthystoneconsultation.co.uk or writing to McCarthy Stone, Llandudno Consultation, Cavendish, Dalton Place, 29 John Dalton Street, Manchester, M2 6FW by 8th June 2024. You can find full details of McCarthy Stone's proposals online here.
Maelgwyn Road car park is one of Llandudno's largest pay and display car parks and is currently leased by Conwy County Borough Council. Parking is a huge challenge in Llandudno, so this car park is an important public asset. As a pay and display car park it generates revenue, which supports important local services including education and social care.
McCarthy Stone first expressed an interest in building on the car park in 2021. We ran a petition against their plans at the time, which hundreds of people signed. Their new plans are little different to those put forward three years ago.
McCarthy Stone's latest plans are for 57 apartments with 36 car parking spaces - they're already 21 car parking spaces short whilst losing 134 existing public car parking spaces.
That means a net loss over 150 car parking spaces near the town centre. We all know how difficult parking is in Llandudno, and this will have a big impact on residents, people working in the town centre and tourists.
We would encourage everyone who is concerned about this development to click here
https://mccarthystoneconsultation.co.uk/llandudno/proposals/ to view McCarthy Stone's proposals and participate in the consultation. When McCarthy Stone submit their formal planning application they will have to list the issues raised in the Pre-Application Consultation and explain what steps they are taking to mitigate them.
