Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has set out plans to end what he called Britain's "sick note culture" if he wins the next general election.

He said "work is good for people" and he was worried benefits had become a "lifestyle choice".

The plans include fit for work notes away from GPs to "specialist work and health professionals" in England.

Oil and gold prices have jumped after US officials said an Israeli missile had struck Iran.

Brent crude, the international benchmark, rose by 1.8% to $88 a barrel while gold briefly came close to a record high before falling back to nearly $2,400 an ounce.

Investors have been closely watching Israel?s reaction to Iran's direct drone and missile attack last weekend.

There are concerns a worsening conflict in the Middle East could disrupt oil supplies.

Oil prices had jumped by as much as 3.5% initially. However, gains receded after Iranian state media claimed that there was "no damage" in Isfahan province where there had been reports of explosions.

The final stage of major new sea defences designed to protect a village promenade has been completed.

The project at Old Colwyn in Conwy county is also aimed at preventing the potential collapse, in extreme storm conditions, of the railway line along the north Wales coast, and parts of the A55 road.

It has taken three years and about ?35m to finish a scheme that has included the installation of 160,000 tonnes of rock armour along a 720m (2,362ft) stretch.

Conwy council cabinet member Goronwy Edwards said storms last week showed "how vulnerable some of these coastlines are".

NORTH WALES MS Sam Rowlands has made his pledges as he's appointed Shadow Health Minister.

Mr Rowlands was elected to the Senedd in 2021, representing North Wales. He has served as Shadow Minister for Local Government since then.

Welsh Conservatives leader Andrew RT Davies MS has today (April 18) announced a new Shadow Cabinet, with Mr Rowlands MS taking over as Shadow Health Minister.

FANS of the Red Arrows may have an unexpected chance to catch the famous jets in action.

The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team are set to come to RAF Valley on Anglesey prior to Isle of Man TT (IOM TT) races on June 7 and then return to Waddington.

Squadron Leader Graeme Muscat said: "We are indeed coming to Valley on June 7 for the IOM TT display that evening.

"We cannot guarantee anything in terms of an arrival. It will depends on several factors, one of which is the weather, both on the arrival at Valley beforehand and after the display at IOM circa 8pm (local time)."

Cash-strapped Conwy County Council is seeking to cut costs and close its town regeneration programmes whilst streamlining staff hours.

After increasing council tax by 9.9% and slashing front-line service budgets, including 5% from schools, Conwy is now planning to cut its town regeneration programmes.

The council committed to transforming Llandudno, Abergele, and Llanrwst town centres in July 2021 following COVID after hailing the BayLife Initiative regeneration project as a success.

The BayLife scheme was later renamed Colwyn Bay Town Centre Regeneration Programme, in line with the other three towns? schemes.

But Conwy will now seek to merge and streamline the work of the four programmes as part of local area forums, reducing the number of meetings and the duplication of work and making ?more effective use of staff resources?

The various regeneration programmes have focused on housing regeneration schemes, tourism and culture-led regeneration projects, and attracting businesses and workers.

Major U-turn on 20mph speed limits signalled for Wales
New transport minister Ken Skates has adopted a more 'conciliatory' approach to 20mph and his wider transport brief

Wales? new transport secretary has hinted at a major U-turn on the country?s 20mph regime. Ken Skates said the lower speed limit should be targeted at schools, nurseries, hospitals and other "appropriate" areas.

Speaking in the Senedd, he pledged changes to the existing default 20mph speed limit, which applies in built-up areas and covers 37% of the road network in Wales. The minister is to make a formal announcement next Tuesday (April 23) on measures that are planned over the ?coming weeks and months?.

Wildwood restaurant and Body Shop to stay in Llandudno!

A POPULAR pizza, pasta and grill eatery will remain in Llandudno.

Mostyn Estates have received confirmation from Tasty PLC, the firm behind the Wildwood chain, that their Llandudno restaurant will remain open.

The Italian restaurant arrived in Llandudno, on Mostyn Street, in October 2016.

In further good news, it appears the Body Shop at the Victoria Centre will also continue trading.

A spokesperson from Mostyn Estates Ltd told the Pioneer: "Mostyn Estates have received confirmation from Tasty PLC that their Llandudno restaurant, Wildwood, will remain open and continue to be a vibrant presence in the town.
