Our quizzes are proving to be pretty popular, so here's new topic which covers every and any sort of quiz you can complete on-line.

100%  Paying attention at College was obviously of some benefit!   Or am I just a lucky guesser?  We shall never know!   Next please.   :D  :D  :D

My score was 10 out of 14 but the questions were nothing like I had in my English Language O Level.

We had all this sort of rubbish in our German classes and it rubbed off into the English.  There are 5 ways of saying the definite article in German, let along the declension of all the verbs!    :D

Unless you were a professional grammarian, you wouldn't. Many of these types of quiz exist, and it amused me no end when a friend who's a professor of Medieval English at Oxford couldn't get them all right.

It's far from rubbish, however, but it is specialist - and there's a difference. This particular quiz uses terminology which is fairly arcane in nature and which has little or no relevance to writing or reading accurately. And there's a school of thought which attributes most of the currently 'correct' ways of writing and speaking to a Victorian who was short of a few bolts.



As English is essentially a form of Low German, it's little wonder it's 'rubbed off', Mike  :D

An easy quiz for a Sunday evening:-

LATERAL THINKING

Q1  Jenny works in a greengrocers. She only weighed 5 pounds when she was born but now aged 18, she is 5 foot 8 inches tall and is a shapely 36, 24, 36.  What does she weigh now?

Q2  A donkey is tied to a 6 foot rope, so how does it manage to eat a pile of hay 30 feet away without biting through the rope?

Q3   Two fathers and two sons enter a shop and spend £1.50 each, but the shopkeeper only takes £4.50 from them. What happened to the rest of the money?

Q4   A man stops his car opposite a hotel and immediately knows that he is bankrupt. How?

Q5   I often go to the Police Station,  sometimes in the middle of the night, and destroy considerable numbers of fingerprints.  I do not, however, consider myself a criminal.   Who am I?

Q6    If there are 8 Crows on a wall near a sheep pen and the farmer shoots one, how many Crows would be left?

Which well known phrases do these pictures represent in this DINGBAT  Quiz.       A bit harder than the last quiz, especially No11.   I've got the answers but I still haven't worked that one out!      ??? ???

Start with No1 on the top left hand corner and work sideways and then down.      1 2 3

No prizes for guessing the numbers though!

Q1   is incorrect as there are more that 7 deadly sins listed.

I only got 7 right and I thought to myself it was a pity that I had forgotten so much of what I learnt at school.
It's the same with spelling. I think we were taught well at school but over the years I have forgotten how to spell many words and am often asking Mr Hollins to help me out!
Mind you, now we have the spell checkers and the one on here is nice and easy to use.

I too got 7 Hollins. Facebook offers me quite a few quizzes, but many are American, so I tend to fall down with some of the answers.
