Something that I have witnessed about 3 times recently, which I thought I would never see in Llandudno.
Whilst using the mens toilets as men do (in 3 different locations), the toilets have been invaded by either drunken, or simply anti-social and uncaring WOMEN. They proceed to use the mens loo in full view of those around.
They claim that they are 'bursting' or the queue is too long in the ladies.
I have seen this in a local pub, a night club, and now most recently on the pier, in broad daylight in the presence of kids and pensioners. No excuse for it whatsoever.
Now, think about this, this yobbish behaviour by women might raise an eyebrow, or even draw contempt.... but I can't help thinking that if I did this, not only would I be arrested and convicted of several offences, but I would end up on the sex-offenders register.
Why is it not the same for women?
Its disgusting, embarrassing and yet another system of our rapidly decaying society.
-
just hope they use the cubicles and don't stand like what i do, but your right we would get reported if we acted the same way

The mind Boggles !

We need more details on this. You mean that the women are using the cubicles with the door closed...or something else?

Wouldn't be the first time for Fester. 8)

I see that we are now trivialising the issue I raised.
Maybe I'm just old fashioned, and it actually is acceptable for women to burst into gents toilets.
It just happens to be a serious criminal matter if its the other way round.
Well, this deterioration in society sickens me, but I suppose I'm a lone voice. &shake&
-
People are more likely to behave in a way that offends others because they don't care and don't feel embarrassed. Outrageous behaviour has become the norm in many situations, on the streets and on the TV screen. People measure their enjoyment of a night out by who was the most drunk and uninhibited, the rest of us are just boring old fuddie duddies, you're likely to get a load of abuse if you raise the mildest objection!
As an aside though, I've been to many places where the queue to the "ladies" will be out of the door whilst the queue to the "gents" is non existent.

Unisex toilets are becoming increasingly popular in Europe, perhaps mirroring a change in social convention.

I don't see a problem in a woman entering a mens toilet to use a cubicle, if she is in dire need?
-
I don't see a problem in a woman entering a mens toilet to use a cubicle, if she is in dire need?
What are your views then on men using the Ladies toilets if they are in dire need Dave?
-
My only venture into a Ladies toilet was on the last day of my Police service when I had to assist with a Lady who decided to start delivering her baby. She had only a few minutes earlier come from one of her pre-natal examinations at the Middlesex Hospital! Such is life - never again! She didn't even name it after me! Z**

Why Not? I remember in the Bar on Colwyn Bay Pier a couple of years ago, the toilets there were unisex. Everyone just got on with it.
-
Let me just get this straight.
These women may well have been in dire need, but only because they were drunk and anti-social.
There was NO queue over in the ladies, and they were just out to cause trouble.
If you recall, I did explain that this happened in front of children and pensioners.
A fine advertisement for our supposedly genteel Victorian town.
Anyhow, I hope the girls were suitably impressed by the men.s cubicles on the pier...seeing as they usually look like Bobby Sands has done his protest in there.
-
I dont mind as long as they dont spread it round I resemble a button mushroom.
But seriously I am with fester on this one!! its shameful how women have little or no respect for them self’s these days
-
Just noticed this old thread and it reminded me that a woman came into the Mens Toilets in the Kings Head during Headstock last Sunday. She did ask first, though. ;)
-
I too went to Headstock, later in the evening...
Whilst there, I was appalled to see many women in the mens toilets.
I pointed out to PC Tom Prytherch who was on duty, that if I had gone into the Ladies in that way, I would surely have been on the sex offenders register by now.
His reaction was, 'what, again Fester?'
Fair enough then, it appears that standards have slipped but I am a lone voice, and I will have to accept that no one else but me thinks its an issue.

Not sure of your point....... but I am going to rise above it.
By the way, whilst I was in the Gents loo at Headstock, I heard a woman screaming 'get me out, please open this door' from one of the cubicles.
After a moments hesitation, I obliged by giving it 'the shoulder'
She should have stood back a little, because it smacked her straight in the face.
Poetic justice methinks?

I wouldn't be surprised if Unisex toilets become the norm across pubs and clubs. For one thing it makes cleaning and security easier to monitor.
-
Many years ago (MANY) when I was little more than a chick I worked as a... 'Door Supervisor' (now there's a euphemism) at a night spot in Leeds. The ladies toilet was a really troublesome spot amazingly and more the once I was called in there to resolve brawls between two 'women' ..
Anyway I digress on one occasion I was stood in the doorway chatting to the female attendant we had in there when a young 'lady' unable to wait (all six cubicles were occupied) simply pulled her pants down and jumped up onto one of the sinks to micturate.
Appalling!!
On another occasion young inebriated 'lady' comes in most unhappy that she'd spilled a drink onto her dress, so oblivious to my male - ish presence, whips off the dress and standing there in only a microscopic pair of pants proceeded to dry the dress with the electric hand drier.
Classy or what?

About 48 hours ago I made a one sentence faintly sarcastic faintly humorous post on this thread
Only just realised it was to Buff Orpington.

A lucky escape indeed Mike, but sadly I have to report that MORE outrageous, (and potentially criminal) activity has been undertaken by our friend ''Buff''
Nothing to do with a few jibes and insults, but a good deal more serious.
I will report back to you all later, once the matter has been ''attended to''
What people like 'Buff' need to realise is that in this day and age, an electronic footprint is left behind when you embark upon cyber activity, hacking, etc.... Once gathered it leads quickly to the physical location of the ISP and equipment owner.
I am in receipt of that information now from three sources, cluding Paypal and Ebay) and it is now lodged with the authorities.
Buff can expect a knock on the door in the near future, and once it is 'dealt with', you will all understand the reason why it became necessary.
Now, if ''Buff'' (Ahem) would like to contact me, and he knows precisely how to do that, and atone for his actions, then I am sure that things can be simplified and mitigated.

Amazing behaviour, what must have he been thinking? &shake&

Indeed Hugo, and thanks for your kind words.
I had no alternative but to report what had happened 'off the forum' as it was insidious and unlawful.
I have been asked to say no more on that until the investigation is complete and the person dealt with.
Now, what I can reveal is that earlier today, the person contacted Forum Admin to explain his actions and was advised to contact me directly.
I authorised my personal email address to be given to him. This was an olive-branch on my part to try and give him the opportunity to resolve this issue.
However, I understand that having then being given my email address, he simply replied to Admin with a series of vitriolic and abusive nonsense.
So I will let due process take its course.
I am not a vindictive kind of person as most on the Forum will know, nor do I enjoy or participate in the politics on other sites where multiple aliases abound. But when my personal business is intruded upon I will ensure that the protagonist understands they cannot go unpunished.

Debatable whether this is the right thread for this but here goes...
Mrs Fester drove out of Asda yesterday and turned left as you must to go into town.
As she approached the junction at Bog Island, a car came hurtling towards her, going the wrong way, on the one-way road.
In panic she swerved into the left lane to avoid it.... and it was only by sheer chance there was nothing in that lane.
Utter madness, and she didn't get a split second to get a look at the driver or registration. But surely some camera somewhere must have seen the incident?
This was brought back to her tonight, when we saw this news article, together with its tragic results.

-
There are a couple of cameras in that area. Might be worth having a word with the Constabulary.
-
I hope that Mrs Fester is not too badly shaken up after that incident as it can be quite traumatic. She was fortunate that it wasn't any worse than it was, but Ian is correct and it should be reported to the Police as the next person may not be so lucky.

Mandatory tests every year for the over 70s in the only solution. I would also propose bringing in random tests for 10% of all drivers every year. Once people pass their tests they are on a free ride and let their guard down
-

Driver Education is the answer. Tests only prove that on that one day they managed to do it right. Everyone needs a good attitude to all their driving all the time, not just an hour's drive around some easy roads, once a year. ;D
-
I would guess that if the car was " hurtling " towards her it was one of the younger generation, male or female, take your pick.
As for mandatory tests for everybody over 70, which I'm not, just wait until you are over 70 and see if you like being bracketed like that.
-
The medical profession are supposed to report any medical conditions which might interfere with the ability to drive. This latest case, involving the 84 year-old, is one of a string, where older drivers become 'confused'. That needs dealing with, and can be, through reporting. However, statistically far, far more dangerous is anyone aged between 17 and 25. Ban them from driving and the roads would be much safer. Anyone fancy their chances?
-
Ian, I agree with monitoring and particularly where medical conditions are relevant regardless of age, I just don't think that BTR can justify everyone over 70 being re-tested etc.
Who monitored the 90 year old who ran into the shop frontage at Rhos 2 years ago with fatal results.
-
I agree, totally. The group that cause the most accidents, deaths and destruction are the 17 - 25 year old group. Older folk - well, we all know someone who ought not to be driving, and it's up to us or the doctor to report them.
-
I used the word 'hurtling' towards her, because even if both cars were travelling at 30mph lets say, then it is a combined speed of 60mph on impact.
It just happens that when one experiences that situation, it happens very quickly and it is a shock.
A head on crash at those speeds would almost certainly have resulted in no survivors.
-
I know exactly what you mean Fester.
A few weeks ago we were travelling west on the A55 and pulled off to go into Mcdonalds at Northop.
A wise guy in a BMW came hurtling around the corner going the wrong way towards the expressway.
He managed to stop with inches to spare but if we hadn't been there he would have straight onto the A55 the wrong way, phew.
I wasn't making light of your wife's experience Fester, sorry if it came across that way.
:-[
-
Not at all mate.
She was over it within a few minutes anyway, after a bit of swearing!
-
Dvla are useless sorry. People over a certain age tick a box that they are fit to drive and yes lots tick it who know full well or are too stubborn to admit theyre beyond safe driving capabilities. Even when professionals like me report them they take NO notice whatsoever. Ive had a man with a moderate dementia being directed by his physically disabled wife. Would he be able to react in an emergency - like hell! Ive had a man whod had numerous heart attacks and lived by a school go out driving day after discharge for his latest attack. His gp near choked when i told him he was driving. Did dvla listen, nope. Its scary who is on the roads!
I also have a 20yr old who drives in 6" heels despite me having a fit on her and the rare times ive been passenger ive been afraid....very afraid. Even her bursting the tyre walls god knows how many times hasnt made her twig shes going too fat and kissing the kerbs! Pfffft!
-
Even her bursting the tyre walls god knows how many times hasnt made her twig shes going too fat and kissing the kerbs! Pfffft!
Seems like she needs to go on a diet and find a different fettish! L0L
Silly question. What is your professional driving qualification?
Have you tried reporting these Drivers' to the Police rather than the DVLA?
-
Minime seems to be having a go at the old gits brigade but they are not the ones who are responsible for the vast majority of accidents on our roads.
Take 18 to 27 year old men off the roads and the world would be a much safer place.
If doctors had to certify a licence holders 3 year renewal application for the over 70's that would prevent the real crusties from driving past their use by date
-
If we think about the recent incidents in Llandudno (2 people run over in St Georges Place, Shopfront in Upper Mostyn St demolished), they were both older drivers, to be fair.
-
If we think about the recent incidents in Llandudno (2 people run over in St Georges Place, Shopfront in Upper Mostyn St demolished), they were both older drivers, to be fair.
I suspect Llandudno's stats are skewed, given the elderly demographic of the area. Nationally, statistics by age are difficult to get hold of, since we rarely know who was to blame. However, we know that in 2011 there were 10,974 accidents involving drivers over the age of 70 compared with 35,953 accidents involving drivers aged 17 - 24.
Even that statistic isn't comparable, since there are probably many more drivers aged above 70 - apparently more than 4.000.000 - than the 17 - 24 year-old age groups. Research by the RAC Foundation suggests drivers aged 75 and over make up 6% of all licence holders but account for just 4.3% of all deaths and serious injuries. By contrast, drivers aged 16-20 make up just 2.5% of all drivers but 13% of those killed and seriously injured.
So yes; the young male driver appears the most dangerous by a long way, but I suspect that many people aged above, say - 75 - might find it increasingly difficult to make quick decisions, such as entering motorways on a slip road (having said that, my impression is that few drivers seem to know how to perform that manoeuvre properly around here...) or dealing with increasingly complex junctions. There's a great example of one of these on the roundabout where the A45 Coventry Road joins the M42 going North. Clearly designed by Satan, or a close relative, this roundabout tests the mettle of even experienced and hardened drivers, so I would feel for anyone with impending dementia.
The important factor in all this, however, is that all individuals are different. Whilst some 70+ drivers might not be safe driving a supermarket trolley, others might well have a background in Police or Army driving and could be far more competent than most younger drivers.
-
Minime seems to be having a go at the old gits brigade but they are not the ones who are responsible for the vast majority of accidents on our roads.
No thats just the group I work with. I also commented on my 20 year olds driving. Im near catatonic by the time she stops!
Yes I agree that the renewal should be countersigned for over 80s. The young drivers have an option of a black box kind of thing fitted to monitor their driving and technically reduce insurance premiums but most wont as they fear it will penalise them more and theyre probably right. My dds insurance for 1st year was 1600 if we paid in full or 2500 in installments on a 500 quid micra :/

Perhaps, but would that make it right? Mental illness is unique in its ability to engender howls of self-righteous outrage from many, yet if someone had a similar physical disability it's unlikely they'd be pilloried in quite the same way.
-
I see it somewhat differently.
Mental illness makes it very difficult to reason with the sufferer, and people who have no sense of reason can be dangerous.
When they overstep the mark into causing anxiety or threat to others, then they must be prevented, or punished... as they cannot be cured. That is what happened with the guy in the article, he caused real distress to others.
Is paedophilia a mental illness? If so it is a glaring example of what I just said. It needs to be excised or punished, and steps taken to be removed from society.

Mental illness makes it very difficult to reason with the sufferer, and people who have no sense of reason can be dangerous.
Indeed. The inability to follow logical thought and reason is a criteria of mental illness. And some conditions can indeed be dangerous.
When they overstep the mark
But by the main criteria of mental illness, which you established, how can they know where the 'mark' is, to overstep it?
then they must be prevented, or punished... as they cannot be cured
Prevented, yes. But I'm curious as to how you would justify punishment for an illness. Even murderers found to be insane are not imprisoned, although they are removed from society, as they ought to be. Perhaps people who drink too much - or drink at all - should be denied NHS care and possibly locked up? Or those who eat too much? And how d'you know they 'cannot be cured'?
That is what happened with the guy in the article, he caused real distress to others.
No, we only know what the reporter wrote, and that may have been embellished. Not uncommon in the news business.
Mental Health has long been the Cinderella of the health services, yet the ramifications of these conditions are enormous, damaging families, destroying careers and often leading to death as sufferers take their own lives. Not really a subject for off-hand humour.

Sorry about my lack of activity in the last year ior so. Everyone knows that sausages come from pigs, (for the most part at least), and these pigs are reared for meat.
What am I not understanding?

It may not have been a crackling story, but the link's between the fire service, putting out the fire, that saved the farmer's bacon, and then to be rewarded in this manner, had me scratchings my head.

Change of subject. Environment in the news. Eliminate waste. Even paper bags.
In llandudno’s Main Street is a certain bakery shop. It sells “everything a pound.” It is a quick service in and out shop served at a high speed.
One of their main lines is two sausage rolls for £1. If you ask for this you get one sausage rool in a bag. Twice.
So you got two bags. Maybe you can buy one for either 50p or maybe a bit dearer. But I doubt it.
Why two bags? Well it nothing to do with speeding up service or making it easier. Obvious it doesent do that. So it must be to do with helping calculate how much you have to pay.
Same rule applies to other two for a £1.
But is this really the best way? The company obvious think so but the environment won’t think so
