Going through my mothers house back in Coventry we have found some pics of holidays back in 1965 / 66 with me and my parents in them, I do not have a scanner so apologies for the quality!

Thanks Dave, yes, that is the tearooms you mention. I was about 9 / 10 in these pics, strangely I can't remember the tram on it's side, I assume the wind blew it over?  Also good to see a large boat at the end of the pier and look at all the sand on the beach! Happy days!  ;D

What a great picture - late 1950's or possibly very early 1960's.

I know modern cars are generally bigger but has the street been made narrower since then, or rather the pavements made wider? - you could get five cars side by side in that pic.

Superb pic.

I suspect it's that they didn't have the road markings we now have. The parking bay lines we now have do tend to skew the perception of the overall size of the road.

I think the white car partially over the wrong side of the road gives a false perspective.  Also it may have bern taken with a wide angle lens.   ZXZ

It might be, but it looks more rounded to me and more like the Hillman Minx.       My old friend David Rawling had one and we were driving down Mostyn Street in it when Dave was overtaken by a wheel that went past us quite quickly.  We wondered who had lost it but found out when we stopped and his car suddenly tilted to one side.
