Golly Hollins-you must be as bad as me-- I have a chest of drawers full of bits and pieces ( no hat elastic though), some of it must be 100 years old as it was my Grandma's. I took an empty spool to the shop when I wanted some button thread to explain what it was that I needed. The chap in the shop had hysterics and asked where I had got the old spool from.

Back to the matter in question. Thankyou, but I think that could be too thick, I imagine that 1mm would be what I would need. That seems to be the usual thickness on offer as I have looked on the net.

Yes, you are right. I have just measured it again under a magnifying glass and I think it is 1mm. Presume it has always be made that thickness.

Hi Nemesis,

I've been trying to work out how to pm you but given up!

I have got you a meter of 1.5mm hat elasatic from London -just back.  The man in the shop said they don't do any narrower but they had shirring (?sp.) but he thought it too thin and unable to support heavy beads.  You'd have to double it over which kind of defeats the object.  PM me and I'll pass it on.  Don't worry if you don't want it now as I may in the future you never know when bracelets are going to explode!

Hi Llechwedd.

Thankyou very much indeed. We don't have a pm system anymore, don't know why, but it makes life very awkward at times.

The elastic sounds great, Hollins has also found some, so I shall be able to make plenty of bracelets including my own ( mine is magnetic).

The only thing I can think of is that we arrange to meet, or if you tell me how much I owe you I can leave the money for you and I can collect the elastic from Hope House Shop if you are in town.

Thanks again

Nem.

If you go to your profile options you can set to receive email.  This shows as a small envelope under your Avatar.  You can then send and receive mail from other Members who have also set the option.

Thanks Yorkie, but the job is done!

Many thanks Llechwedd, I have just called in and collected your envelope. I have also made the donation as you suggested.

Thanks again

My pleasure Nem.  I love that shop in London it's dead old fashioned but they have everything.  Never knew there were so many types of elastic.
Thanks for your message Ian re. private messages don't need to now!

Have been in a couple in the North of England, could have been in York and / or Hexam ( long time ago). They were like that -- I could have spent hours in there !

Can anyone tell me if their is a decent (any even mediocre) music shop in the area?

I needed to get hold of half a dozen tin whistles last week, and wanting to 'buy local' rather than order online I took a walk round Llandudno and Conwy without success.

Isn't there a music shop in Oxford Road opposite the Police Station?

March Hare Music? I thought it had closed and was now a hairdresser.
