Ok, another Conwy related question - the 'old Co-op' on Bangor Road - any ideas what is there now please?  :)

i think the old Co-op was the empty shop between HSBC and the estate agents on the square. i know it used to be Tesco in the 70's

DaveR, that particular Co-op (next door to HSBC) was what is known today as the Co-operative Funeralcare.

Thanks, Bri. That's the shop that Steve Dickens wanted to open as a cafe and had tailors dummies dressed as judges in the window, I think?

It certainly was.

I used to have my own office next door when Fletcher & Poole first opended in 1998.

The manager of the funeral parlour then was Elwyn Jones, who was a prominent figure in the Welsh Conservative Party.

Hi im new to this so here goes,

We have bought the house next door but 2 from the smallest house. I am led to belive that it was the Royal Oak Tavern? Anyone know anything about this as i can only find 1 photo of it as a pub and nothing on the internet about it.

The deeds do mention the brewery that owned it but apart from that im stuck.

Any help would be wounderful

Welcome to the forum!

In 1929 number 12 Lower Gate Street was named "The Royal Oak" inhabited by Mrs Mary Louisa Jones, not listed as a tavern at that time, but apartments. I'm sure someone on the forum will know when it ceased to be a tavern!

Welcome to the Forum Becky....  and Dave, why don't you post your SPECIAL picture (from the Emporium) of the smallest house?

Thanks, Miss P, I think I did that one in Photoshop. It's pretty simple, you just highlight the bit you want to keep in colour, then invert the selection and turn the colour down. You can get some nice little effects with it and something like the Smallest House is ideal to practice on:

Where was Flints Variety Store? Maybe in the parade of shops at West Shore by the Post Office?
