No snow here either - just temperatures about the 70 F mark and blazing sunshine.   Back to reality soon tho'.    8)   8)   8)

Wrex - a short while ago it looked as if the ambulance was stuck - people trying to pull it out with a landrover.

There has been thick fog in Llandudno for most of the day, haven't known it this bad for a couple of years. A few iPhone pics:

FIRE chiefs are set to cut a life-saving aerial ladder platform (ALP) from Llandudno – sparking anger from hotel owners.

Members of the North Wales Fire Authority yesterday recommended the town loses its 100ft rescue and fire-fighting ladder in cash saving cuts for the service.

But hoteliers have vowed to fight to try and save the ladder over fears that delays could have tragic circumstances at one of the resort’s 200 hotels and B&Bs, some of which are seven storeys high.

David Williams, chair of the Llandudno Hospitality Association, said: “We are very annoyed by this decision, we have more bed spaces than any other resort in Wales, certainly a lot more than Rhyl.

“We have spent thousands of pounds on our hotels to improve fire safety but this is a partnership with the fire service and we feel they are letting us down.

“Any tragedy would impact on tourism, especially if there was a delay. The A55 is well known for delays so that is another concern.

“We will oppose this and seek support from Llandudno Town Council and the county council.”

Members had to decide to ditch one of the fire service’s four ladders based in Llandudno, Rhyl, Wrexham and Bangor, increasing the standard response time from 20 minutes to 30 minutes.

After initially ruling out Bangor and Wrexham due to their locations the authority was left with a straight choice between the two holiday resorts of Llandudno and Rhyl.

Cllr Merfyn Thomas proposed that Llandudno should be spared but was voted down by members. He said as well as covering Llandudno and its many hotels it provided a swift response to the Conwy Valley.

Figures released by the service showed the Llandudno ALP had been mobilised 35 times in the 18 months from April 1 2010, and used on 10 occasions. Rhyl’s ALP had been mobilised 55 times and used on 12 incidents.

A final decision will now be made in the March meeting of the full authority. The decision will save around £50,000 a year for the fire service.

Previous moves to remove the ladder from Llandudno in 2006 were dropped after a public outcry.

Authority member JV Owen said they had to put aside parochial bias and make a decision based on the figures and information provided.

Looks like I've scooped the local press once again - I can reveal that the Tudno Castle Hotel is to become a 64 bedroom Premier Inn. The ground floors are to let for restaurant or retail use.

Where do you get this info?????? Great news though. Is it the same as the Clarence (ie private investor developing to rent to Premier Inn?).

2012 isn't turning out too badly so far it seems.

I've spoken to the Agent handling the sale. Yes, same sort of deal as the Clarence.

Well done Dave.

Pleased that it's been a much better day as far as weather is concerned, still a bit on the cool side but lots of sun.

Hopefully things can get moving on this soon then, with no more local busybodies concerned members of the public ensuring it gets called in by Cadw and the Welsh Govt. Because if it doesn't the building will fall down soon and developers won't even having to think about keeping the facade intact!

That's good. Where did you find the plans? That looks like the plan that was given planning permission a few years ago, so hopefully it should be a formality to get it waived through and started.

Funny what I said this morning re Waitrose. Their store in Menai Bridge is 11,500 sq ft and the plan on here is for 25,000 sq ft (albeit over 2 floors). So, there would certainly be enough room for a nice-sized and prominently sited store. It would get a lot of trade from Parc Llandudno too, from people who need a few things but who hate/can't cope with the crowds at/can't be bothered walking to ASDA. We can but dream!
