SECOND POLICE WARNING TODAY, see previous Rhos on Sea message

FIREARMS holders in North Wales are being reminded to be on their guard against thieves posing as firearms licensing officers.

The warning comes after a firearms holder in another force area received a suspicious phone call.

The female claimed to be from the force's Firearms Licensing Unit and said that someone would have to visit the property to inspect his security.

The firearms certificate holder wasn’t convinced that the call was genuine and inquiries with the force’s Firearms Licensing Unit revealed that no-one from the team had recently made contact with this individual.

Andy Broadhead, firearms licensing manager at North Wales Police, said: “We are continuing to process grant and renewal applications and will contact applicants by telephone individually to discuss the most appropriate way of processing their application.

“We only visit by appointment and I would like remind applicants that if they are any doubt as to the identity of the members our team please ask for a name and photo ID for confirmation.

"If you are in any doubt, telephone 101.”

A BIKE has been stolen from a front garden in Llandudno.

This was in Bodnant Road. It was a black and green carrera mountain bike.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police Community Safety Central said on Wednesday, July 22: "A bike theft alert sign has been put up.

"Sadly the resident forgot to lock the bike.

"What we ask is if you can, keep your bike inside if you can put it in the shed or garage.

"If you are not able to do that, try and keep it locked with a good quality lock."

MORE than 400 insurance policies have been cancelled or voided thanks to an inspired initiative to disrupt criminal activity.

Since starting in 2018, North Wales Police’s Operation Confine has targeted criminals by identifying and prosecuting those involved in vehicle insurance application fraud.

It’s a criminal offence to fail to disclose material information such as unspent convictions when asked by insurance companies. However, Op Confine isn’t about checking whether an individual has forgotten to mention a minor road traffic offence a number of years ago, it’s very much aimed that those who cause the most harm to our communities and use the road network to facilitate their criminal activities.

Police have issued an urgent warning after scores of Amazon shoppers across the country were targeted by scammers.

A number of UK customers of the online service have reported recieving 'free' parcels that they did not order.

In a statement, Police said: "There have been several recent reports in the UK of a ‘brushing scam’, involving Amazon sellers setting up accounts in a stranger's name and sending products to them that they did not order.

"These accounts are then used to write fake verified reviews to try and improve the seller’s ratings.

"Some of these packages are sent from China, with the contents often listed as jewelry. When opened, they are instead found to contain seeds, "If you receive a package containing seeds that you did not order, please do not plant them."               ref Pioneer

Police are urging dog owners across North Wales to make sure their pets are microchipped following a spate of dog thefts across the UK.

They are aware of reports of suspicious behaviour from dog owners fearing their pets may be stolen.
Earlier this week North Wales Police officers asked residents to be vigilant in the following reports of males in a white transit van offering leaflets but primarily, showing an interest in houses and gardens with dogs.

Ensuring your pet is microchipped - with the correct information, and if your dog is kept outside making sure that their kennel is secure.
“Dogs are often part of the family and their loss or theft is devastating for owners.

“Across the UK demand for dogs increased during lockdown and as the demand increased so did the price, which has sadly led to dogs in some areas being stolen with a view to being sold on at a high price.

Officers added that if you are buying a dog please only do so from reputable breeders or contact one of the many animal rescue centres across North Wales.     ref DP

POLICE officers will be 'visible' in communities in light of the local lockdown in Conwy and Denbighshire.

Conwy and Denbighshire, as well as Flintshire and Wrexham, went into local lockdown at 6pm on Thursday, October 2 in a bid to slow the spread of Coronavirus.

The restrictions mean that residents will not be able to travel in and out of the county in which they live without a valid reason.

North Wales Police said officers will be visible in communities and will be working with the public to engage, explain and encourage compliance. Enforcement action will be taken where necessary and will be proportionate.

I wish that they would also be visible in the Ogwen Valley and at Pen Y Pass.      No wonder walkers in Conwy are a bit miffed when they can't walk in those areas yet "lockdown"   Liverpudlians can.   It doesn't make any sense.

Well, Wales could close them down to visitors. One has to ask why they haven't.

Re: Police News & Announcements....Sobriety tags
« Reply #220 on: October 21, 2020, 02:39:22 pm »
This sounds positive, be interesting to see the results..........

Alcohol-fuelled criminals in Wales can be ordered to wear sobriety tags to monitor their drinking bans from Wednesday.

The ankle tags - which will be extended to England next year - will monitor an offender's sweat every 30 minutes and alert the probation service if they have consumed any alcohol.

Anyone found breaching an alcohol abstinence order, a new power allowing courts to slap offenders with drinking bans for up to 120 days, can face being hauled back to court for another punishment such as a fine, an extension of the order, or they could be sent to jail.

Probation staff are also alerted when the tags are tampered with and can distinguish between drinks and other types of alcohol such as hand sanitiser or perfume.

NORTH Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Arfon Jones is standing down.

Mr Jones, the region’s second ever police and crime commissioner, has announced he will be retiring at the next election whenever it is held.

The next election had originally been due to take place last May but the vote was put back a year because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

POLICE in North Wales have been coughed on, spat at or bitten in dozens of attacks during the Covid-19 pandemic, figures show.

The Police Federation of England and Wales say the attacks show 'we are living in a more violent society which needs to take a long hard look at itself', adding that those caught should be sent to prison.

North Wales Police recorded 100 attacks on police officers which included coughing, spitting or biting from February to November last year.

That was up from the 85 reported during the same period in 2019.

As officers face this additional challenge in policing, they are also coping with coronavirus – North Wales Police data shows there had been 38 positive Covid-19 tests on police officers up to the beginning of December.

National chair of the Police Federation of England and Wales, John Apter, said the attacks on police officers during the pandemic was 'a serious issue for us all'.

He said: “Those who attack emergency workers have a complete lack of respect for anything or anybody. Without doubt, we are living in a more violent society which needs to take a long hard look at itself."

He added: "We need officers to have the very best protection, and there must be a strong deterrent – that deterrent should be time in prison, no ifs, no buts.

"Time and time again we see officers who have been badly assaulted, and they see their attacker being let off with little more than just a slap on the wrist.

"This is offensive and fails to give that deterrent which is so desperately needed."

Overall there were 377 attacks against police officers in North Wales recorded from February to November last year, the same number as in the same period in 2019.

The highest number was recorded in September when there were 52.
In September, the government announced plans to double the maximum jail term for criminals who assault emergency workers to two years.

Firefighters, prison officers and NHS staff are also classed as emergency workers.

Policing minister Kit Malthouse said: "Our brave police officers go to work every day to protect the public and being attacked should never be part of the job.

“Anyone who commits these despicable assaults should expect to face the full force of the law, which is why we are doubling the maximum sentence for those who assault emergency workers.

“This year, as well as continuing to recruit 20,000 additional police officers, we will enshrine a police covenant in law to provide better support for our selfless officers, staff, and their families - one of the key areas will be on the physical protection of officers." ref Pioneer
