Alice in Wonderland in Happy Valley
« on: July 14, 2011, 11:05:02 pm »
Hi

Does anyone remember the Alice in Wonderland models in Happy Valley back in the 1960's at all?

If so, has anyone got any memories of them and also any photo's?

I recall it was a small cost to go into the section with these models and I insisted (as a child) that we went every year when we visited to see if anything had changed.  I recall Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum who were illuminated and the working model of the mad hatters tea party.

I have gone through all photos I had of that era and sadly nothing turned up.

Thanks in advance for any help.

There's also a couple in the forum's photo gallery. Just click on photo gallery underneath the Three Towns Forum page header. You can do a search for any photo's you're interested in.

I typed in 'Alice' and these two came up:

No photos... but I have a copy of the souvenir booklet, which I have unearthed from a box at home.

Would you like the inside pages scanned and posted here too?

My word, even more memories flooding back and although mine are faded it reminds me as I remember it so perhaps I am not as ancient as some may think!!!

It was a great sight in the day and even better at night - all lit up and the characters seemed massive to me as a kid.  It was one of those must do things on the annual holiday in the 60's although I don't know when it closed and was taken away - I am thinking very late 60's or early 70's.  It was a sad day when it went though but suppose they call it "progress".

The booklet makes good reading and thanks suepp for taking the time to dig it out and post it on this forum - one which has oodles of info on and I have not even scratched the surface yet.  I think I am going to enjoy reading through some of the topics on here and see what I am able to remember.

Yes, thanks Jemima. I see the booklet was published by Llandudno UDC!  :)

We were just saying on another thread at what a good job they used to do.

I think it was eventually removed after suffering storm damage.

I've got a copy of the brochure, but slightly revised - the illuminated gardens stay open until 11.30pm in mine!
