With all the praise that the local hotels in the area are getting, I hope that their "offering" matches all the hype, after hearing a bit of a horror story this week, it made me think........easy getting the visitors now, but we have to provide quality, or they will not return. &shake&

Well, in many cases the hotels only have themselves to blame. The staff must be paid better, or they'll simply walk, in the present climate. But more importantly, and I know I've said this before, why did they sack so many during the early period of the pandemic? Chickens returning, I suspect...

The story I heard, was more to do with the state of the hotel, the quote was "even Alex Polizzi would'nt have stayed there" poor cleanliness and maintenance was the main complaint and considering the place was full, it made me wonder how many would return, they will have to get their act together, especially with the future looking bright for staycations,

How North Wales holiday park plans to tackle hospitality crisis - including minimum £20K wage
The Warren in Abersoch has unveiled its plan to avoid another summer like 2021 where Brexit and Covid left businesses short of workers

Owners Haulfryn hopes to create a 'Chef Academy' at the upmarket park which employs 20 chefs and 50 other food and beverage staff in the peak months.

Under the plan it wants to site eight staff caravans at the site to accommodate those on the programme - helping tackle the issue of trying to get staff to and from the site with limited public transport and unsociable hours.

It says anyone on the 14 month scheme would get a minimum £20K wage even for unskilled and inexperienced workers as well as being able to stay on site.

They can afford it and should have been doing it already.

Lets hope it goes to the right people, and not misused.....

Government funded winter wage subsidy for tourism workers in Llandudno
UK Government funding for project that aims to help with recruitment, skills, and wages in the industry

The Tourism Innovation Hub project includes financial incentives designed to boost business and encourage innovation within the town’s already vibrant visitor economy.

Busnes@LlandrilloMenai will lead the project, which will run from January until June 2022.

Part of this will be £400,000 for a winter wage subsidy so that hotels and other tourism businesses in the town can retain staff out of season.

The idea is that the grant will help pay towards the wages of some staff in the low season and in return employers commit to undertaking innovative activity associated with their business. Part of this could be trying to develop that 12 months a year custom.

I thought some of the other initiatives announced for Llandudno sounded promising:

Innovation Hub – a town centre co-working space where businesses meet to innovate.

Innovation Programme – Activities that address emerging themes within the sector including Reinvigorating Towns Through Tourism, Net Zero Tourism, Building Talent for the Future and Extending the Season.

‘Pop-up’ Premises - In partnership with Mostyn Estates subsidised new business premises will be made available, including shop units to market test new products and business ventures.

Building a Talent Network – Activities to engage key tourism providers and the broader tourism sector. Working in a partnership approach, formulating targeted training and skills development to address the recruitment challenge and make the industry a more appealing career proposition.

A well known Llandudno seafront hotel is set for auction next month - with a very low guide price.

The Queens Hotel closed during the pandemic after earlier falling into administration with the collapse of Northern Powerhouse Developments, run by Gavin Woodhouse.

It was one of four North Wales hotels that were part of the Northern Powerhouse Developments group - alongside Llandudno Bay and Belmont in Llandudno and Caer Rhun Hall in the Conwy Valley.

Attempts to sell the sites had been complicated by leases attached to the hotels but last year Everbright Hotels bought the Belmont and Llandudno Bay in a deal with administrators. The Belmont has now reopened.

Now the large Queens Hotel will be auctioned with Allsop next month on behalf of the administrators.

It has a guide price of £200K to £250K - which is remarkably low for a 68 bedroom hotel on the famous seafront.

The reason is the complication of the leases attached to rooms at the site which were taken on by investors in Northern Powerhouse Developments.

Allsop said: "The Administrators proposed an offer to the long leaseholders to surrender their long leases, the majority of whom were receptive to an offer."

The hotel would come on a 2,000 year lease.

The auctioneer added: "The property may lend itself to a variety of alternative uses and redevelopment, subject to the existing long leases and obtaining all the necessary consents."

The online auction takes place on February 3.                         ref DP

It could be so low a price because so much work needs doing, unfortunately it's falling down, and the druggies haven't helped 😢 Such a lovely family run hotel for years.

We used to have our monthly retirement meetings in the Queens and they refurbished the room a few years ago and it was very pleasant there with some good staff too
When you think that Waldron would have charged at least twice that  price for one of his proposed 54 apartments it makes you feel sorry for the other hoteliers

The Devoys ran a lovely hotel they were messed about loads by that guy woodhouse, I seen through him and his sidekicks when the took on the ormescliffe, a member of staff had a very loose tongue, and I found some dodgy things out.   When woodhouse bought the Queens eventually they only refurbished a few rooms ( to view) that's why they couldn't sell many rooms, then their was no money for the staff to buy the food etc.
