The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has started High Court proceedings against a care home and hotel investor from North Wales.

Robin Forster, who currently lives in Colwyn Bay, ran Qualia Care Developments (QCD) and Qualia Care Properties (QCP) before the companies entered administration this year.

He was also previously involved with MBI Consulting and MBI Hotels which were behind hotel investments in Llandudno. He was formerly a business partner of hotel investor Gavin Woodhouse and a director at the Llandudno Bay Hotel and Belmont Hotel in Llandudno until resigning in January 2016.

Two seafront Llandudno hotels that closed when Shearings collapsed are now recruiting for 40 staff.

Bay Marine and Bay County had been operated by Shearings Hotels but parent company Specialist Leisure Group went into administration last May.

In September North Wales Live revealed that Bespoke Hotels, based in Warrington, had taken on the management of both hotels but lockdown and local restrictions have so far meant neither site has re-opened.

They now plan to reopen the hotels in April if restrictions allow and bookings are being taken.

A spokeswoman said: "We are indeed working hard to get these hotels up and running as soon as restrictions allow and business is viable."

One thing in it's favour, at least this time it has been properly constructed and should stand the test of time.

'Offer accepted' for former Gavin Woodhouse hotel in Llandudno - while second site could go to auction
They were both part of Gavin Woodhouse’s company Northern Powehouse Development (NPD)

Administrators Duff and Phelps have said that an offer has been accepted for Llandudno Bay Hotel subject to the leases.

They said: "It is anticipated this sale will be achieved in the next 1-2 months."
A report said that investors with head leases can then negotiate a commercial settlement with the buyer.

When it comes to the Queens Hotel administrators said that a previous sale agreement fell through due to the leases and that agents are still marketing the site and this "may include a sale via an auction".

Two seafront hotels that closed when Shearings collapsed are set to reopen as part of a newly formed "collection."

Bay Marine and Bay County in Llandudno fell into administration last May.
But under new ownership and following a Hotel Management Agreement with Bespoke Hotels, the properties are set to reopen as lockdown eases.

They will form part of the "‘Coast & Country Hotel Collection" said to "reinvigorate the hotels’ offering."

The Marine is set to open on May 17 followed by the County Hotel on June 1.

As part of their reopening the hotels are looking to recruit heavily within the local community, with the County set to offer 40 roles, while there are further opportunities at the Marine.

Paul FitzGerald, portfolio managing director, said: “Given the enormous challenges of the last few months, we’re delighted to bring these properties back to market.

"Integral parts of Llandudno’s hotel offering, we know their initial closure was felt keenly amongst the community. Now though, with reopening plans in place, we’re able to offer not just jobs and wider tourism opportunities, but hospitality services that people can engage with as restrictions lift.”

A Llandudno hotel has been named the second best in the UK in the Tripadvisor Traveller's Choice Best of the Best awards - beating world famous five-star Mayfair hotel, Claridge's.

And the Lawton & Lauriston Court Hotel, which is right on the seafront in the Welsh seaside tourist town, takes 14th place on the European list.

The family-run Victorian townhouse has been restored and has 35 rooms and luscious sea views of Llandudno Bay.

But it's not the only Llandudno hotel getting accolades in the Tripadvisor awards - which celebrate travellers’ favourite hotels, restaurants and airlines around the world and includes categories like Top Roof Top Hotels and Safari Stays.

The Tynedale is 17th in the UK list and Milverton House was name-checked in the best small hotels category.

'Shoddy behaviour' as some staff don't return after furlough as hospitality recruitment crisis grows
Tourism and hospitality businesses are facing a real challenge to get staff in ahead of reopening on Monday

The spring and summer are expected to boom in North Wales as long as Covid stays under control but some businesses may not be able to take full advantage as they can't get staff in.

Others have been impacted by some staff quitting when they are asked to return - after months on furlough and businesses paying their National Insurance and pension costs.

It is also reported some staff are quitting because they fear horrendous working hours as their employer is under-staffed - and Brexit is making the situation worse as it is now very difficult to recruit from overseas.
