The competition is fierce.  And a lot depends on where a hotel is ranked on TA.

The weather was good this summer but most “summer” holiday decisions are made before that. It was a very slow start to the season due to ice winds and snow and not much better at the end (now) and that is what counts.
However the good summer weather may well have an effect on next year’s bookings as people’s expectation will be for the same.

Does anyone know if The Lansdowne in Abbey Road has changed hands? Been going there for many years but now the price of a single room has jumped from £42 (2018) to £75 (2019). The website now refers to it as "Lansdowne House".

Believe the people that owned the Plas Maenan in the Conwy Valley have taken it over

Thanks, Jack. The new owners clearly have a different vision and clientele in mind than the previous owners. I do hope Bob and Margaret haven't taken very early retirement and have moved to another hotel in Llandudno.

It certainly is and not one I'm prepared to pay. It's a shame that having bought a hotel which was regularly fully booked the new owners have opted not to make changes slowly and quietly but instead sought to alienate previous regulars with an increase of over 75%.

Thank you Mostyn Estates for leaving this mess for the town's visitors to see.

Re the Landsdown:- Llandudno Hotels have consistently under charge for their rooms, it's almost as if they are to frightened to charge an appropriate rate for the quality product they are offering. When we bought ours 20 years back, it was £25 per person per night for Bed Breakfast and Evening meal. I very quickly realised we were not making any profit on the evening meal, so much against the wishes of my good lady we stopped providing them and kept the B & B price at £25 pp pn. Yes we did lose a lot of the old guests, but guess what, they were very quickly replaced with new ones, who were quite content to pay the proper rate for their accommodation. It's a business we're running when all said and done and it must pay for its self or like the 6 sets of neighbours we've had next door, you will very quickly realise it's an easy way to go bankrupt.
