Have you got a date for that photo? The clothing on the people looks a lot older than 1930s - maybe Burtons Chemist was on the corner first, then they sold out to Liptons, who then sold out to Burtons Tailors?

It was taken in 1899.
Cheers, Mr T. Any idea when Burtons became Liptons?

I'm not sure exactly, but between 1899 and 1907 I would say, as the above photo of Liptons shows a tram running in Mostyn St. The Tramway opened in 1907.

It was taken in April 1899 during Edward, Prince of Wales' visit to the town. He arrived by Royal Train at Llandudno station, then traveled around the town in a horse-drawn open topped landau.

You can just make him out sitting in the back of the landau on the left.

I'm pretty sure that is The Duke of York (future George V) in the landau. He's not large or grey enough to be the Prince of Wales (Edward VII).

I'm sure it is Edward VII. He became King in 1901?

This pic shows him at Llandudno station alongside the Royal train.

Well, the policemen's uniforms and other clothing would suggest 1900 to 1910,  but the gentleman looks too young to be 'Bertie', the future Edward VIII.

He acceeded to the throne well into his 60's and was a large blustery man.

Fester, I am sure that is a typo and you mean Edward VII and not Edward VIII.

I guess being a Friday night and past midnight, we can excuse you.  $smack$

Indeed it was a typo...  :-[ :-[
Edward VII was indeed my intention.   (I still don't think its him in the picture though)

Poor old Edward VIII when he did actually come about wasn't much of a king was he ...?

Secondhand clothes
« Reply #54 on: October 26, 2011, 10:22:12 am »
I am off to LLandudno shortly having just had a clear out of my wardrobe. I'm not too keen on chucking them in those supermarket clothes bins. Does anyone know of a charity shop or good cause that I could take them to?
I think some shops don't take clothes any more.
Mostly size 12'ish women's trousers and tops.

I take good stuff to the St. David's Hospice shop opposite the Town Hall.  Rubbish I put in the Salvation Army bin at the car park at the top of maelgwyn Road.

I took them to St David's Hospice shop. There were loads of trousers, good makes, sizes 10-12 and many tops from M&S etc all in good clean condition if anyone wants a good rummage!
 ££$

Also called in at the dry cleaners, a lovely cheerful lady served me. Thanks for the advice.
