I have found what appears to be the burial of Elizabeth Hughes, nee Davies, this is on Freereg.

Elizabeth was buried on 20 June 1877 in St Martin, Eglwysbach. She was aged 60 years. This fits with the information you have given.

I wonder whether Thomas Hughes is in the same grave?

There is a burial for a Thomas Hughes in St Martin, Eglwysbach, on 29 December 1879. He was aged 62 years.

The fact it is in the same churchyard and he was of a similar age to Elizabeth, makes this a possibility for your Thomas Hughes.

The death registration for this is in the December quarter of 1879 in Conwy District, Vol 11b Page 381.

Helig, yes the two are buried together. Elizabeth  died on 20th June 1877 and Thomas on 25th December 1879. Their address is given on the grave as 43 Madoc Street, Llandudno.

Assuming the numbering of Madoc Street has not changed, number 43 was unfortunately demolished (along with 45) to create the link road called Zion Passage.

Hi annelaine ...

... were you able to open the links I posted in reply number 8? ... they seem to be the baptism records of both Thomas Hughes and Elizabeth Davies, and give you the names of both sets of parents, so that would take you one step further if correct.

Regards,
Dave

The links go to copies of the pages on which baptisms were recorded, about 8 to a page, hand-written ... the info is what I posted and gives the parents names and where they lived.  Certainly look as though they're the people you're looking for.

There is a total of 800 baptisms spanning many years.   I have seen similar written info on burials as well, plus for many years you can get hand-written copies of marriages.

Anneelaine ...

... if you are referring to the Gwynedd Family History website you won't find Eglwysbach there as it has never been in Gwynedd!

... you need the Clwyd Family History Society site ... www.clwydfhs.org.uk ... where they have the church/chapel records going back a long way but they're on microfilm in Ruthin - could be well worth a visit once you've got your notes together.

I only learnt that this morning so will be planning a vist when I can!  My Thomas family is in Eglwysbach from 1820, the earliest record I can find is my great-grandfather baptized in 1821, and I have found his parents grave in Eglwysbach.  Before that goes to Llansantffraid (Glan Conway) and that's also in Ruthin archives.

... digging in the archives gets addictive - on my mother's side I can go back to the 1200's all in Suffolk, then it carries on back to France with the Norman invasion!!

Thanks for that Hugo ... problem with counties names and boundaries changing all the time!  I hope they have got Eglwysbach and Llansantffraid there as I would like to view them fairly soon!

The registers were transcribed a few years ago.  The archives will have copies of all the available ones for Eglwysbach and Llansantffraid.
Three lots - Births, Marriages and Deaths. You may be able to buy these via the Clwyd Family History website.
