Beaumaris - Anglesey
« on: March 13, 2011, 08:11:16 pm »
Local (ish) news.

Work has commenced on improving the Pier at Beaumaris.  A major investment it seems.

It's built out of wood and it all needs replacing. They're all doubling the width of it and extending the pierhead.

For £2m though,  there will certainly be no return on investment.

There can't be, regardless of the size of investment - as there is nothing on it that makes any money!  $walesflag$

Whilst its nice that not EVERYTHING is about money..... its surprising nonetheless that the spend was authorised in these times of austerity.

It's been on the way for a while and, of course, there will be incidental benefits for Beaumaris as a whole.

There is an excellent chapter on Beaumaris Pier in the Piers of Wales book,  (by Darlah Thomas) that Mrs Fester got me for Christmas.

I maintain that its not really a Pier,  its a jetty.
