Dave: I don't fundamentally disagree with your main point;  I've always been left of centre, although nowhere near as much as Corbyn. But FullFact.org has analysed NHS spending over the past forty years and reveals it in this graph:

[smg id=4135]

And demands on the NHS have changed fundamentally. We live in an era of an ageing population, who need more care and an era where new treatments mean diseases which previously killed people can be held back, allowing more people to live longer. That all comes at a cost. And the underfunding to which I alluded is real, as the UK comes 8th on a list of the world's ten best providers of intensive care beds per 100,000 population.

The US has 35 beds per 100,000 people, Germany 29, Italy 12.5, France 11.6 and so on, until we come to the UK, with 6.6 IC beds per 100,000.

You're right about high management fees, however. But I suppose running a Health Board isn't a walk in the park.

Do you think Soylent Green could be the answer Ian? It would certainly reduce the number of intensive beds required and help the Government statistics no end.  $hands$

What percentage of those intensive care beds are free to everyone though Ian?

In the US, certainly, most wouldn't be.  But we all pay for the NHS through taxes in the UK - both indirect and direct. In that sense, good health care isn't 'free' anywhere.

We believe in a free-at-the-point-of-use healthcare system; the Tories have a long record of attempting to privatise it, presumably to emulate the US system. Is that what we really want?

Many European countries operate on a similar model to us; National Insurance and optional private health insurance. The Netherlands however, has an excellent system: compulsory Nat Ins for all but private insurance for those earning above a certain amount.

But examining life expectancy tables offers some insight into how well funded and operated the various health systems are:

while this table taken from the Euro Health Consumer Index 2018 reveals the weighting aspects of treatment have for various countries:

English springer spaniel Floki is one of two dogs taking part in Covid-19 detection training at the University of Adelaide, Australia. Researchers want to train sniffer dogs to detect the virus so that people could potentially be screened at airports, hospitals and quarantine facilities.

This just about sums up the U.K. government’s approach to Covid.

People on local lockdown in south Wales need a "reasonable excuse" to leave their county.
But those under similar restrictions in England can still go on holiday.

"If one part of the UK is allowing for such visits to be undertaken and another part of the UK is receiving those visits and testing isn't in place to make sure those people aren't leaving the area and might be spreading the virus, then obviously that is a gaping hole in the regulations."

"It makes no sense to me that people in places like Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham under local restrictions can travel as they wish on their holiday to parts of north Wales and risk spreading the virus,"

"People are getting very worried about this once again. I fear we could see tensions rise in communities as we saw at the start of the lockdown."

It's a good case for closing our borders. Be nice if Johnson for once managed to work with the other governments.

Conwy is being closely monitored by Public Health Wales as coronavirus cases continue to rise and could face a localised lockdown.

With news that Bridgend, Blaenau Gwent, Merthyr Tydfil and Newport will face new restrictions from Tuesday as cases rise, Public Health Wales says Conwy Denbighshire, Flintshire Anglesey, Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan, Carmarthenshire and Swansea are all being "closely monitored".

Dr Giri Shankar, Public Health Wales' incident director for the coronavirus outbreak, said these areas are now in the "amber zone" and could also face lockdowns.
He said on Tuesday: "If case numbers continue to go up in similar patterns that we have seen in the six local authority areas (those currently under lockdown measures) then local lockdowns will have to be considered in those areas.

"I certainly hope that we don't get to that position but if case numbers continue to go up and we see more people going into hospital and needing intensive care and we see cases in our vulnerable groups... we might have to consider complete lockdowns."

A local lockdown for the Llandudno area will make little or no difference.
Last orders in pubs at 10pm?   Pubs are busy from 4pm til about 7pm.  Hardly anyone goes near a pub in Llandudno after 8pm.  Saturday night is slightly different in pubs like the Town House or Irish Bar, but without karaoke or live bands, they now close early too.

Restaurants closing at 10pm?   Well, you try getting served a meal in Llandudno after 8.30pm,  it’s impossible and always has been.

A Woman behind a young man in a queue for the Santander Bank, was approached by a woman asking for directions, she gave her directions as requested and then said you’re not from around here are you, the visitor replied that she had come from Leeds for a Covid test.  At this the young man spun around and gave her a mouthful and stormed off. The visitor said that wasn’t very nice, the woman replied that actually he was quite correct you shouldn’t be here. The visitor stormed off, saying you people are all the same and went on her way.  A few moments later the young man returned with a Policeman, they gave him descriptions of the woman and he went in search of her.  The young man then apologised for his outburst, explaining that his mother had Chemo for Cancer and also suffered with Asthma and that he was looking after her and that if he took the Virus home to her he could not forgive himself
