Aha, penny has dropped ... furthest row needs 2 blocks to complete (total 2), next nearest needs two layers of 3 (total 6), closest row needs 3 layers of 4 (total 12)

But then you only have 4 layers and you need the fifth to complete a cube 5x5x5 = extra 25 ... so total 45.
Knew I shouldn't have jumped in straight away!
Sneaky !!!
I got caught exactly the same way, tried so many ways, until I decided to add up 5x5x5 then I saw the 5x5x4  ..............I thought it would make a good distraction  for the day.

Penned by freelance writer Jo Dearden, recorded by actor Julie Hesmondhalgh.   https://www.lancs.live/news/lancashire-news/julie-hesmondhalgh-records-lockdown-poem-18277652

Two Metres Apart
Before this corona thing started,

nobody minded the gap

of food banks and zero hour contracts

You never heard anyone clap

And yes, we all panicked, divided

as the shelves in the stores were stripped bare

The haves stashed some more in their pantries,

have-nots went without their fair share

But then we all had to take notice

of the starkest advice, which was sound

Stay six feet apart, horizontal or six feet apart, underground

Because...

...this bug doesn’t care if you’re famous

with status or wealth to your name

A body, is a body, is a body

Everyone’s cells are fair game

The prince, cocooned in his castle

The lass on the till in the store

The doctor, the bin man, the banker

The guy with a 10 on his door

And while we are caught in this moment,

trapped in the here and the now

This crisis has brought us together

in so many ways, and here’s how

It’s made us appreciate people

who can’t just pop round any more

We Skype, Zoom, WhatsApp and House Party

and leave bags of food by the door

It’s brought us much closer to Nature

To bright moons, to birdsong and snails

Hedge funds are now being managed

by goats in Llandudno in Wales

And it’s made us give thanks for the small  things

those green shoots that reach for the sun

A reminder that Spring can’t be locked down

and ‘life’ really does carry on

Nature

Neighbours

Family

Workers who are key

All in this together

You

And them

And me

Right...?

So when this corona thing’s over

and the safety net’s been packed away

do the ‘needy’ turn back into scroungers

on seventy pounds ESA?

Or will there be change for the better

Will we each save a space in our heart

and remember the time we felt closer

When we all stood two metres apart

Captain Tom Moore said he was "overawed" to find out he was being awarded a knighthood for his fundraising efforts.

The war veteran raised more than £32m for NHS charities by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday in April.

Capt Tom's initial reaction was "this can't be true" when told about the honour.

The centenarian received the special nomination from the prime minister.

Boris Johnson said the veteran had provided the country with "a beacon of light through the fog of coronavirus".

Capt Tom said he had been "given an outstanding honour by the Queen and the prime minister".

"I am certainly delighted and overawed by the fact this has happened to me," he said.

"I thought this can't be true, I've always said this won't happen and it appears it actually has.

"I certainly never anticipated that this letter would arrive for me."         ref BBC

Sung to the melody of "Smoke gets in your Eyes"

They asked me how I knew
What I had was ‘flu,
I of course replied,
(Must not be too snide)
I am satisfied.

They said some day you’ll know,
All pandemics go
Through us in a flash,
Make a ruddy hash
Of our streaming eyes.

So I wrote to Trump and great Fox news,
And asked them for vaccine trials,
And now I find that only bleach is kind
Good to drink in vials,

Now, laughing, one time friends,
Think I’m round the bend.
I was trusting Trump,
I’m back down with a whump,
All he tells is lies.
Nothing is so firmly believed as that which we least know.  ― Michel de Montaigne

Si hoc legere scis, nimis eruditionis habes.

What has Boris Johnson and Tammy Wynette both in common ??

They both stand by their man

------------------------------------
Keir Starmer:- "Why did you travel all the way to Wales in March during lockdown?"

Stephen Kinnock:- "Cadw at fusnes dy hun."

Keir Starmer:- "OK - that seems reasonable to me."

Tonight we’re saying thank you to the NHS and all key workers with a spectacular display at Bodnant Garden NT as we light up the Pin Mill and terraces like never before.

We’re glad that we’re able to use the garden to show our support for everything that nurses, carers and essential workers are doing for us. We hope that when the time comes to reopen the garden, our gates will be open for those who want to escape, reflect, relax or simply enjoy.

A big thanks to Illuminated Events Wales for making it possible, the illuminations across North Wales have been incredible.
