BBC report  Covid deaths and hospital admissions rise in Wales

There were 81 deaths involving Covid in Wales, weekly Office for National Statistics figures show.

This was 17 more than the previous week, but numbers are lower than deaths seen in the first or second waves.

It takes the total number of registered deaths involving Covid in Wales during the pandemic to 8,432 .

Numbers in hospital with Covid have risen but remain relatively low, while the highest proportion of cases in the community remain among the under-19s.

This has been a feature of the last six weeks, with hundreds more cases being picked up following record numbers of routine lateral flow tests, especially in schools, as well as those people feeling the symptoms of Covid.

NEARLY 500 new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in North Wales.

Public Health Wales data published on Friday (October 22) shows that 499 new cases were confirmed in the region in the latest 24-hour period.

Anglesey - 51
Conwy - 91
Denbighshire - 87
Flintshire - 113
Gwynedd - 78
Wrexham - 79

But while the number of daily cases has been high, as of October 10 there were 84 people being treated for Covid-19 in North Wales - which makes up just 4% of inpatients.

For context, over 300 people were being treated for Covid-19 in North Wales hospitals during the height of the second wave of the pandemic.

The number of Covid inpatients at North Wales hospitals had been up at 150 in mid September, but has fallen since.

Sadly, a further 11 people who had tested Covid positive in the last 28 days months died in Wales in the latest 24-hour period.
