The UK recorded the highest Saturday rise in coronavirus cases since February as almost 8,000 new infections were recorded.

A total of 7,738 new tests were recorded, the largest total recorded on a Saturday since February 20.

Coronavirus figures in Wales are no longer given on a Saturday, meaning the cases recorded today do not include figures for the country.

In the past week, a total of 47,868 new infections have been reported in the UK, a weekly increase of 52.5%.

And 12 further deaths were recorded on Saturday, reports The Mirror.

The rise comes as the highly infectious Delta variant continues to spread across the UK, with the number of coronavirus cases in the UK having surged in recent weeks.

We keep seeing these numbers but what we don't get to see is if there is a link between the positive cases that are found.

When the Bolton increase happened a few weeks ago it was known, but not publicised, that it came about due to a group of Indians going to India for a funeral, of a family member who was one of the many in their recent big death rate.  That info came from someone I know who lives in Bolton.

Should we not be told what the source of the Conwy infection is - it could be useful to know if there is a certain group we should avoid, and so help prevent the spread.

Or is it just not "politically correct" to reveal such info?

It was mentioned yesterday at the PM's question time, that since the Indian variant was first reported, 20.000 people had returned from India, no wonder we are in trouble.
