NO new deaths have been recorded in Wales, and an incredibly small number of new cases were identified in the most recent data.

There have now been almost 34,970 lab-confirmed cases of the virus identified from the combined counties since the outbreak of the pandemic - after more incidents were confirmed by Public Health Wales (PHW) in the latest figures released on April 27.

PHW confirmed that just seven of the latest 33 Welsh cases came from the northern region.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board – the largest health board in Wales – has reported 944 people have sadly died since the start of the pandemic, according to PHW data.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics, which are considered a stronger indicator of the overall impact of the virus, and which are based on all deaths where COVID is mentioned on the death certificate, stand at 1,388 for the health board area.

The national picture:
Across Wales, another 33 COVID cases were confirmed in the latest figures, meaning that 211,354 people are now known to have contracted the coronavirus since the pandemic began.

There were no reported deaths on Tuesday, meaning the number of people to have died with confirmed cases of coronavirus remains at 5,548 in Wales.

Headline figures show that, across Wales, over 1.78m people have had their first COVID-19 jab. Of that figure, over 700,000 have completed the two-dose treatment.

The latest data covering the week up to April 23 - the most recent available - shows that Gwynedd still has the highest infection rate in Wales at 20.9, followed by Wrexham with 19.1.

In addition, Gwynedd and Wrexham are the only two areas of North Wales with a weekly infection rate higher than the national average of 11.9.

The national death total remains at 5,548. In addition, 35 new cases of the virus have been reported nationally today, taking the total in Wales to 211,389.

ABOUT 70 per cent of adults in North Wales have now received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) say they remain on course to offer vaccination to the remaining adult population "well before" the Welsh Government’s end of July milestone.

Gill Harris, executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery, said: "We are continuing to work as quickly as we can with the supply we have and I would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we continue to make good progress in working through this complex programme."

The new cases take the total number of positive tests across the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board area to 34,987 since the start of the pandemic.

Nationwide, the next lowest seven-day infection rate for the week up to April 24 - the most recent figures available - was 5.0 in Merthyr Tydfil.

JUST 11 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in North Wales.

Public Health Wales figures released on Sunday (May 2) show that 10 of the new cases are in Flintshire and Wrexham, with Conwy being the only other of the region's counties to register a new case.

Wrexham's seven-day infection rate is currently one of the highest in Wales at 21.3 - but is in the context of very low rates across the country.

No new coronavirus-related deaths have been registered in the latest 24 hour period.

Over 750,000 people in Wales have had both doses of the vaccine, with 1.8 million having had at least one dose.

Dr Eleri Davies, incident director for the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “Over the Bank Holiday weekend, we would remind the general public that it is still extremely important to follow social distancing and hygiene measures to prevent the transmission of coronavirus.

"That is, staying 2m from anyone you don’t live with, washing hands regularly and wearing face coverings in indoor settings.

“People should observe social distancing when meeting with others from outside their household or support bubble."

One more person diagnosed with Covid-19 in North Wales has died, according to the latest update from Public Health Wales.

They recorded 12 new cases today (Tuesday, May 4) across the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board area that covers North Wales.

There have been 35,021 confirmed positive tests for the virus in North Wales since the start of the pandemic.

The new death linked to the virus takes the North Wales death toll to 945. It was the only new fatality recorded across the country today, and the national total now stands at 5,551.

Across Wales, there have been 65 new cases in the latest update - taking the total number of cases since the pandemic began to 211,638.

No coronavirus data was published by Public Health Wales on Bank Holiday Monday, and it says this means figures in tomorrow's update (Wednesday) are likely to be around double that for the usual 24 hour period.

JUST one new coronavirus cases has been confirmed in North Wales.
Public Health Wales figures released on Tuesday (May 11) show that Flintshire was the only county to register a new case.

Sadly, one further death of someone who had tested positive for coronavirus in the last 28 days has been confirmed.

Over 850,000 people in Wales have had both doses of the vaccine, with nearly two million having received at least one dose.

Dr Giri Shankar, incident director for the Novel Coronavirus (Covid -19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “The variant B.1.617.2, one of the variants first identified in India, has been designated as a Variant of Concern (VOC21APR-02) due to its high transmissibility, which is comparable to the Kent variant.
