THE latest covid-19 figures are not available today due to 'essential upgrades' to the NHS Welsh Laboratory Information Management System (WLIMS).

"From Monday, December 14, we will be bringing forward the publication time for our data dashboard and our daily statement from 2pm to the earlier time of 12pm.

"For operational reasons, we will be changing the daily ‘data correct as of’ from 1pm the previous day to 9am the previous day.

"We also plan to extend the lag period for seven day case rate reporting from two to four days.

"This will further improve the accuracy of Coronavirus cases per 100,000 population by local authority area for the most recent seven day incidence."

The October firebreak curbed the coronavirus spread in Wales, but there are serious concerns over its growth again in recent days.

The virus is now growing so fast, mainly in the south, First Minister Mark Drakeford is planning for a Wales wide January lockdown.
He said it was “almost certain” that new Alert Level 4 restrictions will apply to the whole of Wales initially.

Speaking on Friday, Mr Drakeford said: "The virus is spreading faster than all our models have predicted," and added "coronavirus is now firmly entrenched in many parts of Wales".

Today, we (DP ? ) have gone through Public Health Wales data to see the places in North Wales where the disease is spreading the most quickly.

We compared the figures released on Friday, December 10, with seven days before.
These figures are seven-day rolling totals for new cases adjusted for population ( per 100,000 people ).

It is important to remember that though these figures are a useful guide they are just part of the story.
If testing massively increases in one place there is likely to be a rise in confirmed cases.
However these figures are still a vital factor in Welsh Government and Public Health Wales decision-making.

Here are the areas of North Wales where coronavirus is growing fastest:     https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/areas-north-wales-coronavirus-growing-19451285

Conwy
Though Conwy is far from the place with the most cases in Wales, numbers have shot up in the last seven days.
They have gone from 40 cases per 100,000 of population to 92 - a rise of 130%.
That is the second highest rise in Wales after Bridgend, which last week saw its highest ever numbers of cases.
