UK figures
Coronavirus: 917 new coronavirus deaths as UK told to stay home

The UK has recorded 917 new coronavirus deaths, taking the total number of people who have died in hospital with the virus to 9,875.

The figure is slightly down from Friday, which at 980 exceeded the worst daily figures seen in Italy and Spain.

It comes as the UK spends the Easter weekend under lockdown, with the public being told to stay at home.

Meanwhile, some NHS staff say they still do not have the protective equipment they need to treat patients.
Among the latest deaths is an 11-year-old, according to NHS England.

The UK-wide figures, which are accurate as of 17:00 BST on Friday, do not include those who died in care homes or the community.
In Scotland 47 more deaths were reported on Saturday, while 36 were reported in Wales and 15 in Northern Ireland.

BBC never names sources, it always we heard from a government spokesman, a Doctor from a London hospital etc. Sounds like misinformation to me.

It would have been nice had she bothered to read the statement carefully before going on air. The simple fact is that we're not testing quickly enough or as many people as we ought.

I know I bang on about this but that this has arrived should come as a surprise to no one.  We've had warnings galore since 2002, yet despite the vast numbers of warnings, the fact that pandemics afflict the world around every eighty years or so and we hadn't had once since 1918 and the fact that the WHO has been constantly warning that we had very lucky escapes with AIDS, SARS and MERS the government has, since 2010, consistently starved the NHS of funding and resources and reduced it to state where it has only barely been coping with 'normal' winters, let alone a full-blown Pandemic.

I hope when this has all passed the voters don't forget who left us in this situation and which party has overseen the persistent erosion of the NHS throughout the `UK.
