More than 50 coronavirus cases have now been linked to a school ball that was held at a hotel.

The privately-organised graduation party took place at Cwrt Bleddyn Hotel in Llangybi near Newport on Wednesday, August 11, following GCSE results day.

With more Covid cases being linked to the party, the manager of the hotel has now said that he was assured by the organiser that everyone had passed a lateral flow test before attending the event

He also claims to have been under the impression that he was dealing with the school itself over the event for 120 Year 11 pupils, WalesOnline reports.

Simon Daniel told BBC Wales he now believed a parent on the prom committee had organised the party, as after the event Newport Council environmental health officers told him the school were not involved.

I wish everyone was as conscientious.........

Craig Y Don medical practice notice.................

We have been made aware of concerns about access via telephone to the surgery of late. When the pandemic hit we purchased at our own cost a new phone system to deal with the enviable increase in phone calls as we moved over to telephone triage. Unfortunately this has been fraught with problems and we only had 6 lines coming in with little ability to queue on the line.
As of today we have increased this to 15 with the ability to hold or hang up and try later. This should help those who wish to ring to make an appointment.
Please DO NOT ring us to enquire about flu vaccines, we have experienced a delay with the delivery and not booking clinics yet. We are not doing the covid boosters, that is being organised by the health board.
There are other ways to contact the surgery - we are very responsive to emails - our email address is enquiries.w94019@wales.nhs.uk or alternatively you can submit an econsult, please see our website for further details. We also have the MySurgery app which you can use to contact us. We are aware not everyone has access to IT or is able to use it but the increase in the phone lines should help with the ability to get through to us.
Please do not come down to the surgery to make an appointment. The queue at the intercom can be long and if the weather is bad there is nowhere to shelter. We cannot open our main doors for general access yet as the circulating levels of covid in our community is too high and we have vulnerable staff and patients in the surgery whom we have an obligation to protect.
We are open, we are offering face to face appointments but everyone needs to be triaged first to ensure the risk is minimized.
On Monday 13th September we undertook 197 telephone triage appointments and 44 face to face appointments, this was just for the doctors. There were 18 phlebotomy appointments, 20 health care assistant appointments and 35 nurses appointments, which meant that on that day 117 people passed through our doors for their appointment. Each of these needed screened prior to coming in, with a temperature check and social distanced seating and a clean of the equipment and chairs after each contact.
We are working flat out, but we do listen to concerns and try to improve the situation where we can. Please be rest assured we are trying to adapt and ensure that everyone who needs to be seen can be done in a safe and secure environment.
Please be patient with us during this time. We are monitoring the situation with the phone lines and will reassess this on Monday.

Mrs H did her shopping in Asda Llandudno this week and was shocked to see how many shoppers were not wearing face masks.   She estimated that nearly half the shoppers were not wearing masks.
What's up with these people?  Don't they know that it's mandatory in Wales to wear a mask when you go into these buildings and apart from that Covid hasn't gone away so masks will reduce the possibility of getting an infection from Covid or any other virus for that matter
The signs on some shops such as "No mask... No entry"  should apply and ASDA has a duty of care to the staff and customers to see that the rules are followed properly

You are right Hugo.
Same here in Scotland law says you must wear a mask in shops and indoors on transport, but everywhere you go at least 50% of people are not obeying the law .
Result Calmac ferry MV Hebridies ( Skye, Harris, North Uist  service ) had to be taken off service on Wednesday due to a crew member testing positive for Covid and having the ship deep cleaned.

Why are 50% + of the population so thick ?
They have been told over and over how to protect themselves and others but still they are either not getting the message or just ignoring it.     $angry$

You are correct Hugo.
I’d say it’s about 50% adherence to mask wearing too.
But, faced with such a high amount of disobedience, how are those minimum waged, often elderly security guards meant to do anything?
They have no basis to challenge non mask wearers, because they know full well that their employer are not pushing them to do it, they might be in danger of assault and thirdly, the police simply don’t see it as a priority to attend any incidents that might stem from it.
It’s a horrible situation.

I do not understand why people do not take this simple step, to protect themselves and others, it is no great hardship, also Europeans are still following the mask guidelines, and their cases are well below ours, but our lot seem to think they know better.

and a recap from yesterday..........

Dr Yvonne Doyle, medical director at Public Health England, said: “As we head into winter, there are steps we can all take to keep ourselves healthy and reduce the burden on the NHS. Hand washing, ventilation and mask wearing aren’t only important for Covid-19, they keep other bugs at bay too. Try to stay at home if you are unwell.”

Mull & Fester, we have all noticed the same things going on but no one seems to be taking any responsibility to stop the people who refuse to wear masks from entering the stores.
The Police have made their position quite clear from the start so whose responsibility is it to stop these selfish and stupid people from going into shops without a mask.
The responsibility must be on the store to stop this thing happening,  ASDA after all is a super store so I'm sure that they could employ a guard to stop these people entering  the store in the first place and I would imagine that there are doormen or bouncers available to carry out this duty
ASDA has to have a licence to sell alcohol so if the store does not comply with regulations then they cannot complain if that licence is taken away from them and perhaps then they will do something about enforcing mandatory mask wearing in their store

Norman, verbal abuse and physical abuse is not acceptable and was  certainly not part of his job description.  However he should have been supported by his management at all times
Someone punching him has committed a criminal offence and should have been dealt with by the Police who could be there within minutes in Llandudno
The situation will not improve unless the management of Asda does something positive about it soon.     Apart from the selfish people who refuse to wear masks there is also a possibility of panic buying and the same ilk will vent their anger on the front line staff
It's not nice getting verbally and physically abused for just doing your job but over the years I've just accepted it and got on with it

Hugo, with all due respect, you might be losing touch.
You might be referring to the police as they were maybe a decade ago.
The police are now a shadow of what they were, response times are probably worse than the ambulance service, and the quality of what they achieve is pretty abysmal.

Fester and Norman,  sadly you are both correct in what you have said about the Police and Fester you have first hand knowledge of the unfairness of the justice system.
I don't think that things will ever return to what they once were and the perpetrators of criminal acts will continue to not receive punishment to fit the crime.
One thing I feel sure about is that if it was a verbally or physical racist involvement then at least six Police cars including an armed Police Unit would be there within minutes

At the end of the day the matter is in the hands of the ASDA management,  they need to do something positive to stop people from entering the store without masks so as to protect their staff and customers who are obeying the rules.
