Isn't a democracy where more than a couple of people have an input in the major decision making?

In a representative democracy, such as the one in which we live, we devolve power to take major decisions to our elected representatives, and similarly devolve power to them to elect their own executive.

I have to admit I'm having trouble seeing what your real problem is. Everything that's been done thus far has been aimed at reducing contact between people and hence reducing the chance of transmission. In a perfect world we'd all have been issued with space suits and oxygen, but given these are unique circumstances I'm not sure what else could have been done.

I am totally confused ... are my wife and I allowed to travel to Liverpool at Christmas time?

We have not mixed with anyone for months, hardly been out the house.

Liverpool is allowing three households together for Christmas.  There is my daughter, son-in-law and two young grandsons, and they are in a  bubble with her father-in-law.  Under English rules it seems we would be allowed to join them.

Seems we cannot invite anyone to our house, but we can meet up with two others in a pub anywhere in Wales (where I guess there will be other people as well).

But are we allowed out of Wales?

I've looked at the rules and cannot find a straight answer to my question - can I drive to Liverpool, will not speak to anyone on the way there and back and will confine meeting to close family members only.

Straight-forward Yes or No, please !!!

from Hugo...My brother lives in Thailand for six months of the year and that country has a population of about 69 million people, three million more than in the UK.     The death toll there is 59 so what has gone so badly wrong in the UK?
It's a mad mad world and lies and incompetence do not help with the present situation

I believe the Asian countries are aware of what can happen with these types of SARS viruses, and quickly adopted the use of face masks

I saw a short clip of a shop in Thailand, customers (spaced) queuing, and on entering the shop, a machine checked their temperature, and that their mask was fitted correctly.

We should be learning from those who have been through this before.

Heard a comment from Washington university ...........

They will save 9.000 lives between now and the 1st April with vaccines, however if every one wore a mask in the same period, they would have the potential to save 66,000 lives ....... ?
